      Hi, I have been a fan of your channel for quite some time now.
      I'm about to buy a GTX 1070 G1 Gaming model and I am really worried about getting unbearable coil whine.
      From your experience, what are the best ways to eliminate it? A friend of my told me it would be a good idea to leave it under heavy load for the night and that might help, is that true?
      All right, I'll continue watching the video now.

    • @xman10490
      @xman10490 8 лет назад

      +Totalimus I can say absolutely not, unless you have this next to a sleeping baby or something, you won't hear it, and mine turbos all the way up to 2128 and stays up around there without much fuss, haven't pushed it any higher, but will sometime soon

    • @Totalimus
      @Totalimus 8 лет назад

      Xavier Metzger Just because coil whine is not present in your GPU, doesn't mean it won't be in others. It's the same as silicon lottery - some have it, some don't, no manafacturer is safe.

      @xman10490 8 лет назад

      +Totalimus I know 5 others with this same card bought at different times and they all have the same experience with it as me, and a burn in time is always a good idea, at least in my opinion

      I doubt you know 5 others with the same exact card, hell they probably only made 5 with the way theyre sold out lol. Totalimus is right though, not all cards are the same and some have it and some dont. Gigabyte is a brand that has one of, if not the most coil whine in any of their cards.

    Finally after the 2yr crazy GPU market used cards are affordable again. Just bought two of these Asus Strix 1070 for $220 out the door which is better then the current $150 or so pricing on them. Compared to 6months ago these would have been $300ea. This level of GPU performances works just fine on my kids high refresh rate monitors. They don't play the latest demanding titles so many of their games can easily run in the 100-200fps range with medium/high detail. Should be a good card for another few years. They are paired up with 5600x/b450/32gb 3200.

    Thank you for that - I was really bummed out that I ended up buying the G1 Gaming card until I watched this (prior to payment and receiving of the card).
    The ASUS RoG Strix 1070 OC is certainly the better card, facts are facts. But this is like saying Coke is better than Pepsi. Of course it is! However, both are legit world-class manufacturers...Pepsi just has smaller bubbles man. We're NOT saying the Gigabyte 1070 G1 Gaming is the RC Cola of the soda industry.
    They are both rock solid 1070's -> you aren't going to notice a difference at all. Gigabyte is at the top of their game and there's many angles to you can view the missing 50mhz, lack of excessive lighting and casing meant to match the RoG boards that the ASUS RoG STRIX has, and slightly lesser cooling efficiency that probably isn't needed considering the slightly lower clock speeds and - therefore - overclocking that you would even bother doing...
    Both are going to play any game effortlessly, on max, and rock. You'll just get the Gigabyte at a better price - probably a much much better price at that (like I did, in Q1 2020 where the ASUS is still on average about 75-150 USD more).

    Even if both cards were identical in performance, temps and price I
    would buy the ROG Strix over the G1 gaming as I cant stand the fact that
    Gigabyte insisted on including stupid ass red accent lines on the front
    of its cooler and that would sit totally out of place with allot of
    people's colour scheme.

  • @Macc_

    Dimensions would be nice, as I have come across conflicting information more than once when trying to find a card's dimensions. Getting a final answer from someone who has the card(s) in hand and took a measuring tape to them is very useful.
    To anyone who says that's "boring", no shit. Information comes first in content like this.

    You won't damage either one of the cards by overclocking them in due part to NVIDIA's Greenlight program. The max voltage for a GTX 1070 is 1.09v, which cannot be surpassed without a Bios or hard mod.

    Hello,
    after the many reviews i came to the conclusion that all of the manufacturers and variants from the same manufacturer are pretty identical
    the difference is
    1) in cheapest models there could not be backplate - this is important
    2) the different highlighting - up to me this is not important
    3) 2-3 fans and different radiators configuration
    4) manufacturer overclocked from the box (but the same i can do and manually with the soft, right, so no reasons to overpay for what they did from the box ?)
    5) one card looks faster than another simply because one model is a bit overclocked from the box than another, i didnt see yet that slower 1070 card won few FPS over another 1070 abit overclocked from the box because has better components or smth. else , NO a bit overclocked from the box always wins and im sure if you overclock the slower one to the frequency of the faster one they will show the same results, what do you think ?
    so few FPS shouldnt be counted at all
    6) silence and temperature could be measured when both works on the same frequencies, so you need to overclock the slower to the frequencies of the faster one, in this case we can really compare how much one cooling system works better than another and in this case i believe difference could be higher that 1 degree or 1 db
    unfortunately no one of the reviewers do not place different similar chip cards in similar circumstances :(
    very few observers shows us the cooling system in disassembled way, so we can see the radiators size, what kind of components these radiators cover, if pipes have direct connection to the GPU (like in gigabite G1) or through the metal plate (like in msi gaming X), no body says us about the construction of the fans used, how many balls used and so on may influence to the noise in future and life time of the fans at all.
    without all these details and identical circumstances (in matter of frequencies) comparing to cards is meaningless.
    for example overclocked from the box card will be faster than less overclocked but the same time it will be heating harder as a results fans could produce more noise
    how you could compare such a cards and say that one is more silent or another has higher temperature or shows better FPS ?
    waiting for the MSI - ASUS comparison because MSI more silent than Gigabyte (because 2 bigger fans more silent than 3 smaller) and could be overclocked better than Giga
    as well as waiting for EVGA about which very low information
    and i hope you will compare the rest cards in the similar circumstances, give us more details about radiators and fans and will compare on the same frequencies :)
    what about version 2 of this comparison ? :) any ways thanks and like, good job and waiting for more manufacturers compared :)

    Bought both of the cards. Asus came out 50$ less expensive for O8C version than G1. Performance of both cards is similar. However, G1 looks and feels really cheap vs Asus. The cooler on G1 is tiny compared to strix. Fans look pretty brittle and cheap too. For the amount of money spent ASUS is a much better choice.

    which card would you get if the price is around the same in my country?
    1) Asus PCI-Ex GeForce GTX 1070 ROG Strix 8GB GDDR5 (256bit) (1506/8000) (DVI, 2 x HDMI, 2 x DisplayPort) (STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING)

    and finally if I am there to choose g1 gaming of GTX 1070 (10-20$ more) how much it will be faster in comparison to Asus Rog Strix, not in the Overclocked edition.

    +Tech Showdown I am about to buy a card and i am very confused which is better as the prices almost so close on Amazon now ( only 6 USD difference ) which isn't a big deal , between MSI gaming ( without X ) GTX 1070 or Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 1070 ? or should i get the X version ?
    Gigabyte seems to be faster core clock out of the box but had very loud and noisy fans and cheap plastic design compared to last gen and so many people RMA their cards because of that , while this one despite being too strong and aesthetically more appealing , has bigger memory clock which has no significant effect on performance and seems struggling to increase with core clock despite it have two power cords 6+8 pins and consumer too much power than Gigabyte which seems a huge let down compared to the results i have seen, it should beat Gigabyte in terms of speed but it didn't
    Can you please make a video comparing those two exact models because seems like the whole internet has no one ever thing to compare such relatively close rivalry cards before, Cheers and keep up the good work

    Hi, I have a question that I would really appreciate any help with answering. Firstly for context, I'm considering purchasing a new gpu but possibly waiting until holiday specials. I currently own a Gigabyte gtx 670 which may be now showing issues. My question primarily is with what perfromance and energy consumption differences i might expect between my 670 and a 960ti or 1060 please? Also, in a lesser note, when it comes to the big bwo competitors, even though Nvidia has seemingly been solid for me, I refuse to be a complete fan boy and shall listen to any advice also. Thank you to anyone who reads this and bothers to reply! :)

    Hello,thx for comparative.Can you test the different configuration output vidéo on multiscreen,with card double dvi output,and card simple dvi,to see the difference Hertz maximum capable on multiscreen dvi+dvi and dvi+hdmi or DP?I think architecture is different for that and big economy due to that less one dvi output.Thereby justifying the lower production cost, not an effort to nvidia on its fine engraving and price or not on this.

    Iv just had to RMA the G1 gaming , i was getting black screens ( running dual monitors ) after gaming , i could game for anywhere between 10 mins and an hour , but if i rebooted the PC i would get no display at all , had to move the card down to the PCIE x8 slot to get a display , but again the problem would repeat it self after a reboot and i would have to move the card back up to the x16 slot to get a signal again ,
    have you tried running dual monitors ? do you get the same problem as mine did?
    i just hope it was a dodgy card and it's not the same across the line of G1 gaming 1070's . as it was/is a bloody good card .

    Hey Kev, it would be nice if you did ROG 1060 vs. ROG 1070 showdown!

    • @TechShowdown
      @TechShowdown  8 лет назад +2

      Yes I will be doing 1060 showdown's soon, just making sure I get appropriate models, lots of reviewers are testing non-reference 1060's vs reference 480's and that isn't fair so I am going to wait until I can get a founders edition 1060 to put up against my reference 480, that way it is 100% fair!

    • @petar5151
      @petar5151 8 лет назад

      Nice, waiting for that, even tho i'm more interested in 1070, which i will be getting soon. 480 vs 1060 isn't that much of a competition imo, AMD just lost for now, in every way imaginable. As for an idea, you can do triple NVIDIA showdown, for example ROG 1080 vs. 1070 vs. 1060, just to see how much "space" is between them and determine for which resolutions are every one of them appropriate. As a see it atm:
      GTX 1060- Very High end 1080p gaming, medium level 2k gaming
      GTX 1070- Super very high end 1080p gaming, high end 2k gaming, medium 4k gaming
      GTX 1080- Overkill for 1080p, super high end on 2k, high end on 4k
      RX 480- High end 1080p, low to medium 2k gaming

    I've gotten 2100+ on my overclock though i keep it at around 2088 no problem when playing games for long periods. fans never go over 50% so pretty much inaudible in my h440 case. pushing the fans to 100% makes it sound like a jet taking off, i guess if you want the most cooling and noise isn't an issue you could get better clocks.

    Never personally been a fan of Gigabyte and usually go with EVGA. Running the FTW 1070 atm and i think its pretty much on par if not better than these two. 459$

    • @F2FTech

      The strix actually runs much cooler. If ambient is 21-22c, expect the strix to run 62-63c at load. Most Evga 1070's run in the 70's. Evga has way better support though.

    As the time I typing this, it's $850 on Playtech for the Strix vs the $830 for the G1 Gaming, and since I have a ROG mobo, I guess I'll go with the Strix.
