2001 Breeders Cup - (Full NBC Coverage)

The 18th Breeders’ Cup was held in New York just six weeks after the Tragedy of the September 11 attacks on the United States. Following a moving tribute in pre-race ceremonies to those who had fallen, an outstanding day of international competition commenced. European horses Banks Hill (Filly & Mare Turf), Johannesburg (Juvenile) and Fantastic Light (Turf) won consecutive races before the Classic. It was in the day’s final race that history was made, as defending champion Tiznow, ridden by Chris McCarron, became the first horse to win the Classic in consecutive years, outdueling Sahkee and Frankie Dettori in the stretch to win by a nose. It was McCarron’s record fifth win in the Classic.

This was one of the first racing events i ever watched, and i was transfixed by what happened to Exogenous. Then watched her progress over thr next few days and cried when she was ultimately put down (brain damage from hitting her head, she began having seizures). This is thr first time ive seen this in 22 years.
Also the reason i love Javier Castellano so much. He could have just left but he jumped right in there and helped her and stayed when he wasnt needed.

The problem with these broadcast is that they dont give each horse proper due and as a horseman and fan u cant just kp talking about the same people all the time its disrespectful and not going to bring new fans to the game bc most reg folks regardless of odds or who broadcast people like talk about everyone in the race
