    The biggest reason that gus killed victor is because victor stopped to get some KFC on the way back and Gus saw that as a betrayal.

    Gus killed Victor because:
    - He didn't manage to make sure Gale is safe
    - He started to act on his own, without Gus permission (Walter did say this to Jesse in Season 5 Episode 3, that according to him, that was the reason why Gus killed him)
    - People saw him in Gale's appartment (Mike seemed to be quite concerned about this fact, while Victor didn't give a damn)
    - Gus treated that as a warning for Jesse and Walter. By that he was trying to say: "You are alive only because I allow it. Make one mistake and you'll be dead."

    To add, I also believe it was Victors job to watch over Gale. Victor was there in the lab watching Gale and Walter work as some what of a body guard. Victor failed to properly protect Gale, so Gus punishes him for this.
    I also wouldn't say Gus is not emotional in this scene, sure he keeps his composer, but he is always good at doing that. I mean, Gus spent decades manipulating the cartel not only to make his meth empire, but to also get revenge on them for murdering his partner. Gus has always been emotional, he just hides it well.

      When Gus slits Victor's throat, he looks at Walter and Jesse with pure menace. I think at the same time he wanted to punish Victor and send a message to Waltuh, but he also is pissed off that he had to kill one of his best men for nothing. Even though Victor got spotted and started cooking meth, it was Jesse and Walter that sent him down that path.

    • @Ligierthegreensun
      @Ligierthegreensun Год назад +5

      Everyone has emotions. Gus knew how to channel his rage properly to ensure it damaged his enemies instead of harming everyone in the moment, including himself.
      To put it another way, a lot of people’s anger is like a grenade they drop right infront of them; what’s around them, what’s enraging them will be harmed but they’ll be hit by the shrapnel as well. A gunshot is the same exact principle; an explosion sending projectile flying, but in the case of a bullet it’s a controlled explosion directing one projectile in a direction you’re aiming at, your target, instead of indiscriminately destroying every around you.

      It was physically impossible for him to protect Gale at the time. He was with Mike on their mission to escort Walt into the lab and murk him, obviously on Gus' orders. No one anticipated that Walt will suddenly instruct Jesse to go and kill Gale, with the latter going through with it. Victor can't be at 2 places at the same time, and if Gus didn't account for that possibility, he can't blame Victor for also failing to come to that conclusion.
      I don't recall the scene exactly, but I don't believe it was possible for him to get there in time either to stop Jesse. What did Gus expect him to do, somehow locate Jesse and send a precision missile to his car?

  • @treystone9464
    @treystone9464 Год назад +73

    I think Gus understood Walter might try this for self-preservation and so kept Gale's location secret. So really the one Gus held responsible for Gale's death was actually Victor who was in charge of protecting Gale, he failed to keep Gale's location secret, allowed himself to be tailed by Jesse, showing him where Gale was, on top of that being unable to stop the murder, and getting spotted on top of it. Trying to cook was a hail Mary make up for his mistake by trying to be indispensable before Gus could show up to punish him only to seal his fate. What is clear is he didn't kill Victor only to intimidate, but he used it to vet Jesse to replace Victor.
    Unlike like Victor who was a failure, Gus wasn't exactly angry with Jessie, but impressed. Jesse successfully tailed Victor, killed Gale, and got away clean, and not for money or himself, but to loyally protect Walter. And unlike Victor, he already proved he can cook. Gus stared straight into Jessie's eyes when he kills Victor. When Jesse locked eyes and leans in, Gus' head tilts, he would latter tell Jesse he "sees something" in Jesse and Mike suggests its "loyalty". The very next day,, after Victor died, Jesse is instantly chosen to replace Victor's duties as a Pick-Up Enforcer with Mike and he's tested with a fake carjacking to see if he would bail out.

    Victor was sloppy and WENT INTO A CRIME SCENE WITH WITNESSES (this is the biggest issue)

    I think the key reason, apart from all the other reasons, was that Walt had a habit of trying to reason his way out of any issues between him and Gus, always trying to take advantage of Gus' logical nature. "Because of X and Y, killing me just wouldn't make sense!"
    Gus killing Victor was essentially the former's way of telling him "What I do doesn't HAVE to make sense, Walt. So stop assuming it has to."
    Funny thing is, while Walt spends the rest of the series trying to figure out why he did that, you'll notice he never once tried to reason his way out of anything with Gus again. So the message was sent quite clearly, even if Walt doesn't even know there was a message in the first place.

    One thing I also felt was that Victor's slaying was a message to Mike. One detail I noticed is that right before his murder, Gale's phone is ringing at the same time as he's answering the door to an armed Jesse Pinkman. This is undoubtedly Gus trying to warn Gale to keep his door locked until his men come. However this also means Mike had no choice but to call and explain to Gus what Walt was able to do because Mike fell into Walt's trap. The reason I immediately assumed was Gus's reason for Killing Victor was because he knew Walt was worried about being replaced. That may or may not have even been his intention but Walt had Gale killed for being too good at his job so this is the situation he's in now. Gus noticed Victor seemingly getting good as well. Walt keeps telling "You need me." and at this point he actually does now because Victor's an idiot. So Gus killing Victor, along with the other reasons, is him responding with "Ok, you want to be the only one good enough to cook my meth? You really want to be needed that badly? Fine, I'll show you what it's like to be needed around here." Then after adding one more corpse to Walt's ego's body count he finishes with, "Well? Get to work."

    Leading to customers saying "This tastes like KFC". Enraged, Lyle called Gus, and gave the order "Victor isn't up to Los Pollos Hermanos standards". That sealed his fate. You mess with Gus's meth empire, you get the Gus. Mess with his chicken recipe, you get the bus.
    This tells us two things, that Gus liked to speak in code. But more importantly, Lyle was the mastermind behind Gus's empire all along. Vravo Bince.

    The reason why Gus killed Victor was to prove that Walter did make a valid point. Hence, meaning Walter made sure that only himself and Jesse were to be the only ones to cook the pure methamphetamine. At the same time Walter had to prove to Gus that he wasn’t afraid to take charge, and make sure Jesse remained an asset as well as to pulling the trigger on Gail.

But if he'd just killed walt and Jessie he would have been able to recover and continue with his plans. He also went back on his way of doing things when walt and Jessie screwed up their first meeting with him. He should have refused to work with the two of them and continued his plans with gale and his cook

    As the flashback with Gale showed, he values loyalty and consistency over skill and ambition. But even loyalty has it limits, as demonstrated when "skilled" Walter schooled Victor despite his "loyalty" to formula, and Gus had to severe that limitation like a diseased limb. And especially after Walter's phony offer of resuming loyalty, he had to show even genuine loyalty means little to him and call his bluff because simply walking would be a sign of capitulation.

    He killed Victor because he was seen at Gale's. Pure and simple. As seen in the scene much later where Gus is waiting at Police/DEA HQ, sat in the waiting area and he looks up and sees a composite drawing of Victor as someone they're trying to talk to regarding Gale's murder. He knew that it would lead to him so he killed Victor, and was VERY pissed off about it, because he valued Victor and if it wasn't for his small mistake, he would not had to have killed him. Also, as a handy by-product, it scared the shit out of Walt and Jesse.

    Victor was supposed to learn how to cook from Gale and then go to Mexico for the last move on the Cartel. Yes, he was seen at the murder scene and he also lost his composure , that being the main reason Gus had to kill him. Gus was very disappointed. I think Gus was expecting a possible attempt on Gale's life, but he was hoping that Victor won't slip out. What I think the initial plan of Gus was to get Gale as the main cook and Victor as his assistent. That's why Victor was really affected by Gale's death, that made him to snap. Victor absolutely hated the presence of Walt and Jesse, he wanted these 2 clowns out of that lab for good.

  • @Rorschachqp
    @Rorschachqp 2 месяца назад

    To answer this question fully, it's important to understand Gus' singular motivation, which was to take vengeance on the Salamanca Cartel including Don Salamanca and Don Aladio for killing his protege and possible lover from Chile, Max. He needed to take out Aladio first then Salamanca was a helpless (or so he thought) old man.
    His method to do this was successfully executed, to make enough of the best meth to bring the cartel to the table again where he would pretend to kow tow to the whole family in order to poison everyone, including himself, as we all saw in the show.
    So he needs to avoid any legal entanglements to make it to that meeting and also get that super meth to get Don Aladio and his top guys attention.
    So Victor:
    1) Made himself expendable by all his sloppiness at the crime scene, making him legally compromised, this is already explained.
    2) Was killed in front of Mike to let everyone know loyalty should be to Gus, not Victor to Gale, not Mike to Victor, etc. Gus already knew Jesse and Walt were loyal to each other only and Walt was loyal to his family, not Gus...Victor was so upset, we could see in his mind he was thinking on his own too much...if Gale would become Gus' Walt, Victor thought he would be Gale's Jesse. That's a Victor agenda, not a Gus agenda. That's why after Victor, Tyrus and Mike only watched Walt and Jesse via camera and not the tanks, the gauges or the cook.
    3) Had made himself into Gale #2, so what should have ended Walt and Jesse's concern with Gale's death, a rival cook who can make the guys expendable to Gus supposedly...now by showing he could cook himself he made himself into another Gus cook...however Gus already knew Victor's 70% meth would not accomplish his goal in luring the cartel, he needed Walt's 99% and this was even proven as he sold Jesse to the cartel to at least get to 90% using Walt's way.
    So, Gus had to remove Victor in front of the guys himself. He did not want Walt and Jesse to use that excuse to act out again, with their minds out of whack with Gus' goal conspiring. Gus wanted Walt to cook, not plot, so Gus could reach his revenge goal. Even after he sold Jesse to the cartel, he did not replace Jesse with another helper for Walt.
