Which is significant bcuz that was when high fashion was introduced to the HH community by the likes of Puffy, BIG, lil Kim, Jay z, The Firm etc. Including brands like Versace Moschino DKNY Chanel etc. This is important bcuz that era was the sole springboard to the high fashion influence in HH today. The expensive price points, and the couture approach to street wear. Not to mention the influence that era had on today's influencers, Pharrell and Kanye specifically.

@@THECASUALco YESSS. I recently figured out that often times, I could switch between high top converse allstars, and classic Doc Marten boots in the same outfit. Mostly because they have such a similar silhouette, and that got me thinking more deeply about the potential use of military mix.
if you're just starting out, try going out to thrift stores. the authenticity of the piece really matters because part of military style is the rugged look, similar to workwear. so the easiest way to achieve that look is to get second hand pieces which are often sold VERY cheaply. I bought an combat tunic (the jacket) for $15CAD and the coat was only $30CAD. Also focus earth tones (olive green, brown, beige, teal blue) and greys because military pieces are a little big faded in colour so you don't want to overwhelm it with like a neon yellow t shirt. btw make sure you thoroughly wash each piece because some of that "history" stuck really well with it. Im pretty sure you don't wanna catch surprise disease from the vietnam war (hence why never buy second hand footwear cuz its a trillion times dirtier and hard to wash).

This reminds me so much of a graduation work I did "The Evolution of Hip Hop and it's influence on our modern society". Culture, politics, fashion - especially Dapper Dan who started the whole Luxury Bootleg scene and custom pieces during mid to late 90s hip hip culture and Nigo who influenced so many people in the hip hop fashion industry, marketing, branding, different sub cultures around the globe and it's musical backgrounds, events etc.).. my other one was about "Graffiti and it's impact on Art & Fashion" .. though when I think back now I would have rather done it about Anime as an artform and it's impact on western culture and fashion (couldn't do that because I already did a presentation on that topic). I also want to recommend you this Anime called "Smile Down The Runway" - It's about a short model and a fashion designer (specialicing in women's clothes) on their way of come up in the industry.. I really like the show because the clothes designs remind me a lot of Rei Kawakubo's and Yohji Yomamoto's, Issey Miyaki's and Margiela's works of Haute Couture with an own unique touch but you should decide that for your self =)

Another thing is that Asian and American Black Culture since the 80s/90s kept influencing each other more because of Kung-Fu films, Anime and Video Games. Although through music in the form of hip hop it all connected together culturally. Within the last few years there is also trend rising to popularise Asian Hip Hop within the west aswell as Asian Pop Music through youtube, movies and Anime exported into western countries and black aswell as white and latino people also seem to enjoy it (which is now not exclusively only made in Japan but also a big portion of newer releases in China and Korea aswell as it's comic books or webtoons). Anime / Video Games / Asian Movies and Hip Hop always have been tied closely together since they are both part of pop culture aswell as fashion which is also related to it. I mean there are a ton of asian movie / anime / asian video game references within hip hop and references of hip hop's style which is now labled as streetwear within today's fashion world. Get educated about the topic first before you start saying things that in the end will make you look stupid and uneducated. Looking at what's popular today, I think the importance of the afrocentric movement in hip hop cannot be understated. You briefly mentioned ethnic traditions influencing hip hop in the 80s, but that influence continued well into the 90s, and even the 00s, through neo soul more than hip hop proper. I feel like that movement stayed true to the essence of hip hop way better than the baggy street style we often associate with that era. The whole "street" aesthetic soon became pretty corporate and uniform compared to its afrocentric counterpart. Acts like Tribe, Dela Soul, post-Erykah Andre, Ms Badu herself, Lauryn Hill, etc. helped preserve hip hop's quirkiness and originality when it was starting to lean towards conformity.

Looking at what's popular today, I think the importance of the afrocentric movement in hip hop cannot be understated. You briefly mentioned ethnic traditions influencing hip hop in the 80s, but that influence continued well into the 90s, and even the 00s, through neo soul more than hip hop proper. I feel like that movement stayed true to the essence of hip hop way better than the baggy street style we often associate with that era. The whole "street" aesthetic soon became pretty corporate and uniform compared to its afrocentric counterpart. Acts like Tribe, Dela Soul, post-Erykah Andre, Ms Badu herself, Lauryn Hill, etc. helped preserve hip hop's quirkiness and originality when it was starting to lean towards conformity.

Look at any old skate footage from the 90s - mid 2000s, there’s plenty of skater in their baggy pants skating on the streets. I slide my first baggy jeans back when I first started skating. That time, I was (still today) into Hip Hop, Emo, Punk rock & Nu Metal musics.
