@@tokumo2190 most likely not, drum heads are usually 1-3 layers thick, and could stop much more than 22 snake shot. We do joke about being bulletproof on the drumline I'm on tho
Seeing as many of the drummers I dealt with broke their heads every other day, I was pretty sure that was the reason. Fucking crazy. That being said they were all single-ply and he wasn't using the two-ply heads he normally uses (wasn't even using his set). Don't get me wrong though, this dude is a good drummer. People who say many drummers hit way too hard often don't understand certain genres where getting big, tranisent drum sounds in a large mix require that. I made a comment to a guy in Ireland about some cool fireworks that have a nice kick, aaaaand now I'm on a watchlist in the UK. They are rather silly over there, yeah?
The only problem being that the Kevlar drum heads run something like $135 U.S., not sure what that would be in Euro. Good luck finding intact "old" heads, because most drummers don't replace heads until they bust due to the cost of good heads.
Our rules aren't that silly. But anything to do with explosives and Ireland especially if you are American they'll think your trying to help the IRA, this guy who sent the drum heads is probably wondering if they'll be useful as body armour or armour in general, and safe way to test it, send it to demo ranch
I still have my original Spas-12. When they were first imported the "AFT" would not allow the tail hook to be imported. My dealer finally got on for me about a year later when they started to allow them as part of the gun purchase. Thx. for reminding me I have this stuffed away in the back of the safe.
as a percussionist the reason for kevlar drum heads is so that they can handle the tension of the snare drum and the force of the stick and be able to make a good sound while being durable
"I wonder why they'd be making kevlar in Ireland..." That was one of the funniest things ive seen on this channel in a while but wow that is also lowkey frightening 😂
Not all drum heads are made from kevlar. Most are still made from plastic or fiberglass trying to sound like animal skin, or somewhat rarer actual animal skin, usually cowhide. However since the late 80s/early 90s or so marching drums, especially snare drums, have had kevlar heads to withstand a lot more tension and make a much louder, more piercing/cracking sound that carries better outdoors. Thank DCI for that.
The audio may have messed up for a minute but this was the first time I've ever heard a dog barking in the background. Because it's so fuckin rad. One of the few times a needlessly cool looking gun actually lives up to the hype. Kriss Vector is another winner in that category.
Kevlar drumheads are typically used for Drum Corps-style snare drums; it's required so they can be tightened to the level required for maximum rebound of the stick and an extra short reverb that basically accentuates the level of stick control of the the (often professional) drummers that play them. The More You Know!
Such a huge memory trip being just a child when those movies started and I absolutely love your twist. The Channels Intros alone are fully worth love & subscription.

[...] Designed for duty, but destined for fame. An Imposing presence that has garnered great acclaim. I was at an indoor range with my Automag III and when I was firing it everyone else on the line stopped what they were doing to watch me shoot this incredibly fun pistol. I look over my shoulder and there was my new fan club.
Northern Ireland native here, I would assume those drum heads are for Lambeg drums, which are huge and are used in the 12th of July parades. Really awesome to hear Northern Ireland mentioned in a video, it's rare!
The Kevlar drum heads are made to take a beating and are much harder then normal drum heads. Like at my high school we use Kevlar drum heads for marching band bc they can project the sound much further and even if you took the end of the drum stick and tried to stab the drum head it wouldn't go through. Fun fact lol.
Always thought the J Hook/Butt Hook was the dumbest thing about the SPAS. It purpose is supposedly to hook under the users forearm to allow you to shoot it one handed. It looks cool but it's the last automatic shotgun I'd ever want to own.
Its so you can push a door open with your free hand while still being able to level the gun at a potential target with the other hand. At the time it made sense but tactics changed almost as soon as it was put into service so it was irrelevant.
When I still lived in the UK, I got mine for £450 ($570) back in 1986 or thereabouts. The first time I showed up with at the local clay shoot, the stuffed shirts all had collective heart attacks and didn't allow me to shoot it there. I DID find a shoot which allowed me to attend, providing I did show a modicum of safety as pump-or-auto shotguns are frowned upon at a great many British clay shoots. The funny thing was that I saw several shooters with their traditional guns being asked to leave because they showed disregard for safety rules. The best thing came from some shooters who admitted they didn't like them - but could they try mine as they were curious. After they'd fired mine, they said that they still wouldn't buy one, but the important aspect was that they no longer voiced their objections to them. The ONLY mechanical issue I ever had with mine was that in the beginning the barrel porting clogged up the turning ring which allowed you to alternate between auto and manual. Once I cleaned it a few times and the gun was 'run in' - the problem went away. Yes, the piece has a 1000% cool factor - but do I think it's the most practical SG? Absolutely not.
Holy shit these things have gone way up. I paid 1300 for mine like 8 years ago. Sold it for 4K a few months back. They’re cool, but nothing I’d call reliable, and it weighs a ton
Yes drum heads are kevlar but its primarily marching snares but dont hide behind them because you will just be shot and then deafened because they are under significant amounts of tension
8:42 so what you're telling me is there's an open market where you could sell some replica J hooks and pocket a load of cash? Why has nobody jumped on this? I don't think Spas owners will care if the hook is genuine as long as it looks and functions the same, especially if it means they're paying half the price.
Didn't;t they saw only about 2000 were imported into the US? If so that puts a limit on the potential market - at least in the US. Not that turning a profit on a small batch is impossible, just may limit the long term prospects as well as the max possible total sales.
The one in the Wraith had a wood stock, but also had the folder bolted to the wood stock which would not allow the folder to function. They just did it for aesthetics, along with the red lights that can be seen under the heat shield.
Spas 12 was never deemed a destructive device. The striker 12 and usas 12 were. The spas 12 importation got killed by the Bush sr 1989 'assault weapons' import ban.

The only problem being that the Kevlar drum heads run something like $135 U.S., not sure what that would be in Euro. Good luck finding intact "old" heads, because most drummers don't replace heads until they bust due to the cost of good heads.
I promise you, if one of you reads the Qur’an, he will fall in love with him
Our rules aren't that silly. But anything to do with explosives and Ireland especially if you are American they'll think your trying to help the IRA, this guy who sent the drum heads is probably wondering if they'll be useful as body armour or armour in general, and safe way to test it, send it to demo ranch

as a percussionist the reason for kevlar drum heads is so that they can handle the tension of the snare drum and the force of the stick and be able to make a good sound while being durable

hes been dealing with that t.rex for years!
Hey Matt I been watching for a long time and have loved every minute of it, keep up the good work!!!
I love these collaborations with Matt and Brandon, or Donut, or Nick. I think they should all collaborate in one video. All four of them, and more!
The audio may have messed up for a minute but this was the first time I've ever heard a dog barking in the background. Which given the amount of land Matt has, hearing a dog bark after the SPAS shooting montage was surprising. I assume it was probably DEMO but even on OffTheRanch I've never heard DEMO bark.
Maybe Brandon's puppy?
They usually mute/cut out the barking in post production so that ATF doesnt raid them. :p
It’s from the adjacent property, always starts barking as soon as we take the first shot or two. Maybe just haven’t noticed it before?
@@David.Lopez.12 Yeah after commenting I ended up watching a few other videos where there was a faint dog bark but had never noticed before now.

Kevlar drumheads are typically used for Drum Corps-style snare drums; it's required so they can be tightened to the level required for maximum rebound of the stick and an extra short reverb that basically accentuates the level of stick control of the the (often professional) drummers that play them.

Northern Ireland native here, I would assume those drum heads are for Lambeg drums, which are huge and are used in the 12th of July parades. Really awesome to hear Northern Ireland mentioned in a video, it's rare!
Forgotten Weapons has a video on the Larne gun running (so he does)
The Kevlar drum heads are made to take a beating and are much harder then normal drum heads. Like at my high school we use Kevlar drum heads for marching band bc they can project the sound much further and even if you took the end of the drum stick and tried to stab the drum head it wouldn't go through. Fun fact lol.
YEEEE!! Wearing the skin of your prey as a cape is terrifying for any opponent.

Always thought the J Hook/Butt Hook was the dumbest thing about the SPAS. It purpose is supposedly to hook under the users forearm to allow you to shoot it one handed. It looks cool but it's the last automatic shotgun I'd ever want to own.

The one I had was pump/auto. It was awesome to shoot.

I don't think Spas owners will care if the hook is genuine as long as it looks and functions the same, especially if it means they're paying half the price.

@@Tacdelio Haha, you're not wrong.
Didn't;t they saw only about 2000 were imported into the US? If so that puts a limit on the potential market - at least in the US. Not that turning a profit on a small batch is impossible, just may limit the long term prospects as well as the max possible total sales.
