Many languages are included in Proto-Iranian. Stan is basically the Shaka language. When the Maurya rule was going on in India, the Greek Empire was weakening in Iran. One of Ashoka's sons Kunal established his rule in the Khotan state. The Shaka tribe was displaced from there and settled on the mainland of Iran. That land was first called Shakstan. The Shaka tribe came to India divided into two divisions, Indo-Scythian and Indo-Parthian. The king of Persia never called India Hindustan. He called India Hindos. India was called Hindustan by Babar, which is recorded in Baburnama.

Rahmit Ali khan of Punjab, who studied in London, propagated the idea of divided India's name as Pakistan in which istan means Land.
