understandable I had an out of body experience listening to this album, I felt this overwhelming sense of doom? rebellion? it made me want to get my ass up and barricade my door lol. especially in Dune, it felt like yeosangs voice was hell and jonghos was heaven , and in wake up when jongho is screaming at us to WAKE UP from the brainwashing. it made me feel like we were on the verge of waking up but someone was keeping us in the submissive state and you can just hear Jongho’s vocals in your mind screaming at you to snap out of it, like a danger sense. Ugh idk I just love how with their music they teleport me places and evoke such raw emotions from me. this was their best album imo, hongjoong, Seonghwa, and wooyoung SLAYEDDD

Although this particular album was very specifically themed, I think when you listen to Ateez’s full discography they definitely make music that does all of that! 😊
Their ability to do all genres and accommodate so many different feelings/moods is just another thing that makes them so great! 🥰😍

See, I have ADHD and this album was perfect for me. All the weird sounds and crazy background vocals, the different way they used their voices, I loved it, it actually helps my ADHD calm down 😆 as you said when I asked for new groups to get into and told you the groups I Stan, you said "you seem to love hype music" and it's true, I prefer it. My brain is all over the place and fast music, Ateez especially help calm it. This album was the most evenly distributed between the members imo, and its just as cohesive as World Movement ep. 1. But, do not listen to Outlaw while driving, the sirens will make you paranoid 😂

Same! It gives me all the dopamine I need and more! But maybe in her or others case, myself included other times, we already fed our brain with stimuli and the bucket is full already so in this state it's too much, too exciting and overwhelming the bucket overflows, I remember times were it gave me anxiety and even panic attacks bc I was too excited lol
Oh also most of us already kind of prepared with the previews of the songs but she didn't so I get her :')

My jaw is STILL on the floor for how EPIC and BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL this album is. For me, it's a MASTERPIECE and I just can't stop listening to it. I agree with you that it's an EXPERIENCE. But I'm the opposite of you and I want and need to listen to this album on repeat, day and night, lol.
Every song moves me in its own special way, and makes me "feel" in a way that's difficult to put into words. I'm unable to pick a favorite - I love them all. I'm obsessed that the album is so theatrical, and deep and profound and storyline driven, but that may be partially because I'm completely obsessed with their lore and their universes. A lot of people say that this album gives them Muse vibes (if you're familiar with that band?) And I totally agree and LOVE that sound. I think the heaviness and "darkness" that some may feel with this album is just where they are right now in the journey of their storyline and so it has to be epic with what's going on in universe Z. It's kind of movie soundtrack epic.
It may help if you see performances of some of the songs. I think it will touch you in a different way. Their performance of "This World" was mind-blowingly beautiful. ❤️

Hi Anitra. Whew what an experience! I feel you that it can be overwhelming to listen to all the songs back to back, but as you experienced it, it is also cathartic as well. I personally feel that all the albums are portraying the different Ateez in each area of their lives/experiences. I believe the treasure series are Ateez in A world. Their life is normal with the normal experience that we have in the everyday world. There are highs and lows but the stakes are not that high. In the fever series I feel that it is a combination of Ateez and Halateez. It feels like the songs are moving between the different worlds and the stakes are getting higher and more complex. In the world series I feel it is either Halateez or the new Ateez experiencing everything in Strickland. The stakes are very high ie life or death and that struggle is portrayed in the songs. More complex with the vocals/harmonizing, the complex backgrounds/layering of the production etc invoke the feelings of anxiety, fear, stress and fight or flight. There is more electronic sounds (ie android guardians) more switching between genres (confusion, mind control, hypnosis) portraying what it is like to be in Strickland and the distortion/dystopian aspect of this new world that they are in.
What I love about Ateez is that their approach to their music is very much a reflection of where they are in their storyline. It is unappologetic and like Jongho said in Bouncy this is their music this who we are. This album is exhilarating, stimulating, overarching and for me personally an out of body experience type of album. I love that Ateez is not afraid to experiment and change up their sound to suit what is happening with them. They are always trying new things and growing and for me that is what makes them my ult group. I loved your reaction to this album and I hope you are doing better after some food and a nap! Sorry for the long essay but your experience with this album brought all of this up for me.

Album.Of.The.Mf.Year. We were not ready!! The fact that this album feels like a mf build up to something even MORE crazy for next comeback. Honestly, with the ending on Bouncy, I'm sure it's going to be. Anitra, when I first heard this album, I was SO overwhelmed. So many sounds, beats, etc. Hongjoong was right when he said we're going to hear new things from the vocalists this time around and the RAPPING just went on a whole other level this era. They all did. (I also agree, that I love that Jongho gave us something different this time, he still did his high notes, but they finally let him have a little something different and I hope this is the start of something more for him. as well as something to "start" Seonghwa on his rapping journey!)
They gave us some new sounds, but also gave you a slight little bit of sound that is familiar and it stayed true to Ateez. I honestly thought that This World and Outlaw were going to be INTRO AND OUTRO songs and I was hugely mistaken and so you can imagine my confused ass when these songs ended up being full lyrical songs and I was not ready. And while I do understand that everyone is different, maybe just taking it slowly, and listen to like one song a week/every few days, and could hopefully help you get used to the sounds a little bit after hearing it? As I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to really truly fully listen to them either and but every since that second listen through, I have them in a playlist for streaming and this is by far, my favorite fucking album! It's SO GOOD. Loved your reaction! I hope you had a nice dinner with your significant other after this! ♥

This World: I think it's interesting how in the chorus they raise the questions "Who should I protect" "What should I change" then in the last chorus its changed to "I should protect myself" I should change everything". Also Yoesang's "Lies, rules, hatred..." part we heard before in the Propaganda intro from The World Ep.1. Its also very interesting that for this album they didn't do an outro or intro song like normal; I think its because this is a true continuation of the story they started in the World Episode 1. To me there is a lot of turmoil in this song, like they started something but have some doubts, but by the end they know that they can't stop.

More thoughts on This World: They ended The World episode 1 with the song "New World" and it felt like a triumphant, uplifting, end of movie song. Now they begin with "This World" with a lot darker undertones...its like okay we concluded the first episode with the goal and we're starting the second episode with the reality of the situation. Final thought about this song is someone paired this song with cyberpunk its an insanely cohesive transition from "This World" to "Cyberpunk".

I remember when I first listened that I thought that all the songs went well together. Even though I do not know Korean, I felt like it was a storyline we were following from start to finish.
I tend to get visually overstimulated before the music gets too much.
I loved that several of the songs have tempo and style changes. Especially the first track and the final track. If they are outlaws in this , then they would have a very on edge feeling to them.
There would be times when they would need to slow down and be stealthy, runaway and retreat, or push forward and fight furiously for your cause.
This is my first album listen of Ateez. I am a new K-pop fan in general, so I have heard the hits/title tracks, so I don't have any references to what the previous releases are like. Maybe that helps, too.

Hi Anitra, I hope you're okay.
I don't know much about AHAD, so I won't comment on that. I'm sorry you were overwhelmed, so I hope you got that nap.
As a metalhead, I'm kind of used to this kind of cathartic noise, so ofc I loved it. ATEEZ taking this approach to relay their storyline, tells me I stan the right group because they truly do what they want and are unapologetically trying new things to further their craft. I'm not sure if that even made sense, but I mean, they always outdo themselves. And yes, the world their in, which is sort of a dystopia, means the music will be less "normal" and more noisy. The different sounds, the harmonies, the yells and growls, all go with the emotions the boys are feeling as they infiltrate the academy.
I believe This World might be told from the POV of the young man, who is related to the boy who escaped at the end of guerrilla. Reading the lyrics, it conveyed a sense of hopelessness and how he wanted to experience the darkness, meaning, feeling that pain and questioning himself. Dune is probably from the POV of all the students at Prestige, while Bouncy is ATEEZ playing the music and literally getting ppl out of their trance. I think Django is a call to action to tell Z they're in his world to f*ck shit up and Wake Up is them further waking up the students. Outlaw is saucy, and I thought this was probably HALATEEZ coming out because they're so overconfident. They speak of monsters (a different side of me) and burning up which I associate with HALATEEZ. Since its World Two, we're not assuming the POV from HALAZIA where theyve been captured, instead, its them perhaps coming to help ATEEZ? IDK, but its just a thought.
Now I could be totally wrong, but that's what I was thinking as I read the lyrics. I think its the perfect compliment to MOVEMENT because it tells the story of them getting into the academy. Like I said, my thoughts are just mine. I just love the album!
Funny how I remember saying they couldn't top MOVEMENT. TBH, Movement is just still that one for me bcos it was the first rock sounding album from my ult. but OUTLAW is so good, hard, and unapologetic, she can sit with MOVEMENT until they one up themselves again.
Thanks so much for continuing to listen and being honest. I really hope yodure okay!

ATEEZ - THE WORLD EP.2 : OUTLAW (Album Review)
This’ll be my first album review since adding these men to my ultimate boy group list. It wasn’t until their THE WORLD EP.1 album I ultimately decided to dive headfirst into them. For the sake of consistency, I will be talking about the title track again. Okay, I think I’ve rambled long enough, let’s fully dive deep into the belly of the beast.
    1. Hongjoong in ‘Wake up’ casually rapping 60 syllables in 7 seconds. ‘Wake Up’ is a different breed of music. Imagine everyone screaming with Jongho at the end. I think can now say that THIS is my favorite song album wise. Honestly, they didn't need to go this hard for an EP; this is not just an album anymore, it's an experience. The entire album sounds so grandoise and cinematic and I love that. It was hard to choose; This World wins.
    2. Yeosang should be part of the demon line after THAT chorus. Plus, more rapper Hwa. I'm here for it. The heavenly vocals followed by the deep vocals and Jonghos killer notes, so good. Ya'll gotta accept that this song is gonna be stuck in your head for the rest of the year.
    3. ATEEZ are my ultimate bias boy group. This album is a non skip per usual from our men. Mingi is an ultimate bias for me. The moment I realized that he spelled out his name and that verse; This is my absolute favorite verse from this man. Rapper Hwa is awesome and we need more people to talk about that. HJ is a crazy captain. Wooyoung and San being the fighter and his ring man are so hot together. Both Yunho and Yeosang are incredibly handsome. Jongho looks so handsome and sounds so pretty.
    4. The fact they referenced another song in their discography makes me so happy and probably progresses the storyline of their album so much more. Sector 1 is actually a song from the Guerilla album. For those who haven’t heard it, do so. Its a very good song as well. Loved the song references that they casually used.
    5. This is like the last song I expected to cry about but this is just pure magic. I’ve been with ATEEZ since debut and I don’t know how they manage to top themselves every single time.
    6. From 2:44 to 3:19; Those are my favorite moments in a song ever. Here’s why. We got Wooyoung’s verse starting with a “Na”, then that beat switch happens and oh my goodness, multiple members go back and forth between each other. This last chorus though, THAT was magic.
Conclusion: This album really feels like the culmination of all of their hard work and growth up to this point, but in a way that feels like they're pulling us up with them. like no matter where this journey takes them, it's always going to be ATEEZ and Atiny together.

The album is insane in every good possible way and I loveeee with this and the last one, how cohesive the album is as a whole, but like you said I also need and LOVE their slower more softer comfort and sad songs. When they released DIAMOND with the japanese album, it felt like refreshing to what we have heard lately, so I just hope for the next album maybe it would have more songs and more slower ones. • @sarahbelmont4323

Dune: Okay I really do think the adlib at the beginning is "HALAHALA". Both songs start with Wooyoung, his opening lyric in HALAHALA is "I'm trembling, I'm shaking, my heart is thumping," while in Dune the opening line is "The light in my heart has all gone dry." Not to mention HALAHALA means Hearts Awakened Live Alive; I really don't believe in coincidences when it comes to ATEEZ lyrics. Note at the beginning of Dune he references "Reflected in the broken mirror", this reminds me of Yoesang's scene from the Answer mv, along with San's scene in the Say My Name music video with the broken mirrors. I think in one of the diary entries they talk about how in Strickland mirrors are covered up and broken as a Guardian tactic to make people lose their individual identity.
Both This World and Dune reference "sacrifice" referring what they give up to become outlaws in this society and spread the message of hope/individualism. Both songs also reference to "falling down", "Going down" and I can't help but think of Alice in Wonderland falling down the well.
I think the title is a reference to the movie/book Dune, as the setting is on a desert planet. Hongjoong has mentioned how the desert setting is very important in ATEEZ lore as it's where they started, its directionless, easy to get lost, kinda a no man's land of sort. I think that's what's going on here they're in this world and the reality of it is wearing on them causing them to lose sight of the light (of Heaven's Door as San puts it).

Anitra, are you okay? I’m genuinely concerned 😅
I think this whole album is making you feel this over-stimulated way because almost all the songs were changing melodies every 2 lines, and the melody itself contains too many microtones, where all possible sub notes between the chords are used, which is not at all common
On top of that their background vocals and harmonies😵‍💫
But this was my favourite album from them till now!!

Wake Up: Good call on the connection to "New World". Also, "When the rain pours in this drought that has gone dry and worn out. Not until then will you know if you are who you think you are." I want to relate this back to "Dune" its like in this hypnosis people are in a fog/haze walking directionless in the desert because their identity has been stripped away. It doesn't rain in deserts, so when you feel the rain you've escaped the desert. You could also tie it back to "Mist".

Django: Okay here's what I'm thinking, if "Dune" continued the theme that the reality of this world is getting to them, then "Django" is the song about them overcoming their doubts and being persistent with their message.
"You're thinking about tomorrow...we're living for today," I think its the pre chorus where Wooyoung and Jongho say this, which I believe references their song "Win" with San's part "We don't know, what is next, we don't think about it, we live for today." Agree this song's chorus is so catchy, I especially love "The destiny is the final round". So many game and betting references sprinkled throughout the song hmmm I'm pretty sure Seonghwa also says "Don't you want to bet, man" at the beginning of "Bouncy". This battle they're in are the betting odds in their favor, would their opposition bet against them? IDK still sorting this theme out in my mind, as I also think about the risk involved with games and the fight they're in. Also multiple references to the end, even saying "they're the end", probably meaning they will destroy the guardians and be the end of them.
Psst, damn Yunho why you try to kill ATINY on this record?

On Idol Radio, the members were sharing which parts of songs from the album they really wanted or perhaps wished they had gotten. San said that he REALLY wanted Yunho's ending part in Django. Yuhno was killing it for sure in this comeback. He seems more confident. I adore him! I love them ALL!!!!!

Also, about the giggle and fix on comment you made... I'm pretty sure Hongjoong said once that he laughs when atinys make such a big deal over their taglines not being in a song because for some songs there just isn't time to put them or it doesn't fit or something.... but like we are paranoid thanks to them so he can't blame us really

Outlaw: Okay obviously I went back to "Sector 1" lyrics and found this gem sung by Wooyoung "Something Inside of Me constantly tries to open its eyes;" OMG its like they used Answer to tease "Sector 1" which then teased "Outlaw" since the chorus is all about the monster/outlaw/rebel being awoken within them.
I watched the showcase after the album dropped and let me say the choreography for "Outlaw" is so good. Granted I'm bias its probably my favorite song on the album.
Oh I've been meaning to call out all of the run/running references and encourage people to go back to their song "Good lil' boy".

You really were on the struggle bus heading straight for Break Down City. It was a wise move to make a pit stop and listen to Aurora to calm down.
The album is intense so I understand you being overwhelmed.

babesss you were going through IT. this album took me out too LAWD. I'm so weak for conceptual and theatrical albums like this one, truly unmatched experience. the harmonies and melodies stuck out a lot for me

The very start of the song “This World” sounds a lot like the theme of the showStranger Things, does it not sound familiar to the theme.

Wth is this? This gave me a very bad headache...totally not for me...bordering on ridiculous noise and devil music...I like how they used to sound 2 years ago, this is too much sound, too crazy.

it’s easy to pause and stop watching the video. Ateez have different genre in every album, it depends on their storyline. This album is like a propaganda or something like rebelling.

I agree it would be classified as noise music and I understand it's not for everyone, but devil music?
Artists change their styles, especially in kpop all the time, and it's good for growth to see what works and what doesn't. Artists don't always want to be stuck in one bubble. If you like their older stuff then you can listen to that because they have all types of genres and songs for anyone to choose and enjoy. :)

You could have just paused and stopped watching the video and ateez isn’t going to stay the same forever there going to grow and so is their music which means trying different types of genres of music

I think there is nothing wrong with sharing your opinion in a respectful way if you do not like something. However, you saying “bordering on ridiculous noise and devil music” was completely unnecessary and disrespectful!
I personally was very overwhelmed and overstimulated listening to everything BUT I can recognize how intense, purposeful and epic these tracks are and how much time went into putting these beats together as well as those insane harmonies they were giving!
The reason their music sounds different is because it is… on purpose. Their storyline primarily resides in two worlds… world A and world Z. The last album and this album have transitioned into World Z. They are portraying the intensity of the world they are in through the music. Almost triggering a fight or flight feeling. So yes, for now, it will be very different from what they have given before because world Z Ateez is a different Ateez than world A.
Either way, music is subjective and not everyone will like the same things but at the end of the day it’s important to at least be respectful of the hard work people have put into their craft.

This is a dumb statement and one you should have probably kept to yourself. It's like me saying that EXO makes childish music simply because I don't like 90% of their discography. I'm sure as an EXO fan you wouldn't appreciate someone dissing their music in that way so don't come at Ateez and their fans in such a disrespectful manner.
