1. Piezometers can be used to determine phreatic line in earthen dam.
2. There are various instruments which can be used in dam:
Thermometer, Strainmeter, Stressmeter, Uplift pressure meter, Pore pressure meter, Surface strainmeter, Uplift pressure pipe with master gauge, Extensometer, Plumbline, Negative pressure meter, Anemometer, Piezometer, Inclinometer, Jointmeter etc....

Why slope is provided on upstream side of gravity dam?
Upstream slope we keep sometime, because the water stored above upstream slope will exert pressure in downward direction whose moment about toe will resist the overturning moment on dam...which will ultimately help in stabilizing the dam .

1. In UGPL to measure pressure we can use pressure gauge. Pressure gauges will be placed at starting point, end point and any other intermediate important points of pipeline to see variation of pressure. Beside that Air relief valves can be used to release air pressure while commissioning of pipeline.
2. There is no guideline for keeping particular type of tender in government work. It all depends on the nature of work. Like if work required expertise which is not available with department and future maintenance after completion of work is difficult, also if project is big then in that case we can go for EPC tender. For canal lining work all the items are generally known and we go for Item rate tender (B-2 tender)…for some small work we can also go for percentage rate (B-1 tender)…
3. It is not like we don’t use steel in wall. Horizontal bands are the most important earthquake-resistant feature in masonry buildings. The bands are provided to hold a masonry building as a single unit by tying all the walls together. There are four types of bands in a typical masonry building, namely gable band, roof band, lintel band and plinth band, named after their location in the building. The lintel band is the most important of all. The lintel band ties the walls together and creates a support for walls loaded along weak direction from walls loaded in strong direction. This band also reduces the unsupported height of the walls and thereby improves their stability in the weak direction. During earthquake shaking, the lintel band undergoes bending and pulling actions. Steel is used in construction of these bands.

What is difference between RE wall , embakment, levees , diaphragm wall , wing wall?
1) RE wall: The Reinforced earth wall is one of the solutions that can be used for retaining earth. It is combination of earth and linear reinforcing strips that are capable of taking large tensile stresses. Hence retained earth will take compression while reinforcement will take tension. Steel, Geotextile, Concrete etc. can be used as reinforcing material.
Advantages are like more load carrying capacity, more stability, less water leakage etc..
2) Embankment: A raised structure made from earth or combination of earth and gravel. Purpose can be for stopping water, for constructing road and bridge etc...
3) Levee: It is embankment only but generally constructed along the course of river so that water don't enter into the area which is to be kept safe from getting flooded.
4) Diaphragm wall: A diaphragm wall is a structural concrete wall constructed in a deep trench excavation, either cast in situ or using precast concrete components.The excavation stability is maintained by the use of a drilling fluid, usually a bentonite slurry.
5) Wing wall: The wing walls prevent scour, soil erosion, retain the embankment adjacent to the bucket in dam after completion of spillway section.

@@vivekmakhecha5282 there are 2 types of spillway....1st service spillway and 2nd is auxillary spillway/emergency spillway i.e. auxillary & emergency both are same.... auxillary spillway is provided so that it can be operated in case there is some problem in operation of service spillway.

Minimum cgpa required would be mentioned in vacancy advertisement...in prelims technical section would be printed in english and language section in Gujarati....u can start preparation from 4th year.... vacancy number changes from year to year

Sir, as the result of AE class II irrigation department is released(application under scrutiny). What do you think about the cutoff in the prelims exam??
Sir What is the cutoff of written exam for the exam conduct on 16/02/2020 for Narmada irrigation department class 2 .
My guess is around 90-95....but it can vary..

Sit I am from uttar pradesh is knowledge of gujarati is compulsory for final selection or they ask any documents regarding Gujarati language.
No they will not ask for any documents related to gujarati language exam...you will get advantage if you know gujarati but nothing like compulsion of knowing gujarati...

Drainage syphon is nothing but syphon aqueduct only.....it is provided when hfl of drain is higher than bed level of canal
