I would also like to add that the synth effects and the style of this type of MDM are referred to as "Gotenburg" Melodic Death Metal. This style was formed in Gotenburg, Sweden, back in the mid 90's.
It is In Flames effectively. The singer Mikael is also the lead singer of Dark Tranquility (DT) which I have pitched several times before. Try their song Forward Momentum (ruclips.net/video/suhuQlYZwtE/видео.html)
If you like The Halo Effect, you will love In Flames and Soilwork. In Flames is worthy of a deep dive, Soilwork released the greatest metal double album of all time (The Living Infinite).
I think you would really enjoy Dark Tranquillity's later catalogue, Atoma and Moment (albums). The singer of The Halo Effect is the vocalist of Dark Tranquillity.
Love these guys as a huge in flames and dark tranquility fan i was stoked they got together and created this album. Go deeper into it and it just gets better. Check out insomnium-one for sorrow. Also check out Children of Bodom-Hellion.
There's something absolutely magical about this song where you can just close your eyes and let the guitars take your consciousness away down a river. In Flames never was the same after Jesper left and you can very much appreciate his lack of desire to write big flashy guitar solos. Nothing on this track overstays its welcome and everything fits neatly within its design. This band forming was like a dream come true.
Hey Geebz, I know you haven't been following melodic death metal forever, but I have and all your points about the track are extremely on point. The only thing I can add is that the pioneer of this type of music (Jesper Stromblad) has a magic sense of melody and nuance, and the entire band easily has over 100 years of experience in metal.
If you have the time, definitely check out "Insomnium - Winter's Gate" it's a continuous 40min concept album in the vein of The Halo Effect (Melodic Death Metal) and a brilliant aural journey 🤘🏻
This band is made up of melodic death metal band members from the OG bands In Flames and the singer of Dark Tranquillity (who was also briefly with In Flames at the very beginning). They are doing the OG melodeath style which In Flames has moved away from in some ways. Nothing amazing or new but just solid melodic death metal by veterans of the sub genre.
Hearing The Halo Effect really makes me understand what In Flames lost. I mean absolutely no disrespect to Bjorn, but he just isn't the riff and solo writer that Jesper was. Bjorn seems to like to stay in this sort of more simple and "safe" pocket.
melodeath entry pack: Soilwork - Father and Son, Watching the World go Down Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe In Flames - Take This Life Dark Tranquillity - Nothing to No One Arch Enemy - My Apocalypse Solution .45 - For Aeons Past Disarmonia Mundi - Quicksand Symmetry Children of Bodom - Are you Dead Yet?
@@dodgrblu For an entry pack you need to go with something like Moonshield off Jester Race for In Flames and Lethe for the Gallery. Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium and Be'lakor have to be on the list too.
I've been trying for years to get him to do Insomnium and In Flames. 1 out of 2 ain't bad lol. He did try Cloud Connected and said it was copyright blocked.
A great album and a great band (In Flames!). One of the songs of this album, Gateways (ruclips.net/video/IIBBvDPFOTw/видео.html) has an incredibly strange/unique vibe, which I highly recommend trying.
I never heard of this band before. The vocalist reminds me a bit of Lamb of God, but the rest of the track could have been a Papa Roach track. Interesting combo.
Mikael Stanne is from Dark Tranquillity, has been since 1989. He also has a band called Grand Cadaver. Well actually In 1994, Anders Fridén, Dark Tranquillity's original vocalist, left the band to join In Flames. In "Skydancer", Dark Tranquillity's debut album, Mikael played guitar and performed clean backing vocals... Stanne was also the original vocalist for HammerFall from 1993 until 1996
Geebz I know you tried doing In Flames and it got blocked but the fact you got to Halo Effect before In Flames is a travesty. The Halo Effect is ex In Flames members....
The Halo Effect consists of all former members of the pioneers of Melodic Death Metal called In Flames. In case you didn't know.
I would also like to add that the synth effects and the style of this type of MDM are referred to as "Gotenburg" Melodic Death Metal. This style was formed in Gotenburg, Sweden, back in the mid 90's.

Flames out
I personally love the first In Flames album with Mikael Stanne doing the vocals. It's raw and has terrible production, but that's the charm for me.
I think Jasper is the most important part for me. I'm so stoked he's doing melodeath again, this album rules
melodies being stuck in your head is exactly what good melodic death metal excels at 🤘🏼
If you like The Halo Effect, you will love In Flames and Soilwork. In Flames is worthy of a deep dive, Soilwork released the greatest metal double album of all time (The Living Infinite).
The Living Infinite is a Masterpiece.
+1 for both In Flames and Soilwork!!
Yeah, huge In Flames vibes.
Dark Tranquillity as well
The newer Soilwork records are awesome, too.
But I love all those Gothenburg area Melodic Death Metal Bandsincluding The Halo Effe t.
welcome to the rebirth of swedish melodic death metal.
Dt never went anywhere and ATG reformed in 2014.
@@jonsmith7122 in flames is the only band that matters, sorry to break it to ya
@@Flugmorph Nice opinion. One small issue. I'm inside your home.
You now need to react to In Flames and Dark Tranquillity
The Halo Effect putout the #1 metal album last year. Has been on repeat since it came out. 🤘🤘🤘
The whole album, Days of the Lost, is worth giving a listen to. My favorite song on the album is the title track, Days of the Lost.
I think you would really enjoy Dark Tranquillity's later catalogue, Atoma and Moment (albums). The singer of The Halo Effect is the vocalist of Dark Tranquillity.
Ooooh would love a break down of Forward momentum!!!!

Glad to see you checking this band out, I love their stuff, for me it is very nostalgic as they recall the 90s Swedish Melodic Death Metal sound
Please check out Synaptic Depravation by The Zenith Passage. The riffs, chord progression, solos, and that synth outro my GOD it's incredible

Funny that this comes out in the day the new In Flames album comes out (the band that the members of The Halo Effect all have ties to)
Great song and video! Please can you add From Scythe to Sceptre by Be'Lakor to your list. True masters at melodic death metal!
PLEASE, check out last of our kind with halo effect. By far best song of the album and by far the most interesting song to heAr u break down
This reminds me of some bands I know but it's hard to place. Obviously a radio track in it's writing.
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
PLEASE!!!
Thank you Geebz
Grandeeeee Geebz!!! Finalmente un po' di fottuto death metal melodico made in Sweden!!!
@Crow Crow And that was exactly what I meant, my friend! I'm in love with Jesper & co.
In Flames + Soilwork + Dark Tranquillity
I keep suggesting Marianas Rest! Awesome Death/Doom from Finland. Just dropped new video Sirens feat. Aaron Stainthorpe of My Dying Bride!
melodeath entry pack:
Soilwork - Father and Son, Watching the World go Down
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
In Flames - Take This Life
Dark Tranquillity - Nothing to No One
Arch Enemy - My Apocalypse
Solution .45 - For Aeons Past
Disarmonia Mundi - Quicksand Symmetry
Children of Bodom - Are you Dead Yet?
Honestly, with all respect... Those are not good recommendations
@@evansmith9514 i disagree, they're great.
what do you suggest?

I dig the recos. I'd also throw in ghost prototype I + II or CoBs kissing the shadows
Classic Gothenburg sound 👍 You should check out In flames latest track. "Meet your maker"
Great tune- new band to me, straight to playlist! Please add Ritual by Soulfly to your scroll🤘🏼🌺
Love this song!
Great reaction 😀🇸🇪 Can i suggest for you In Flames with Meet your maker. Think you would like that one as much as you enjoyed this one 👍
I've been trying for years to get him to do Insomnium and In Flames. 1 out of 2 ain't bad lol. He did try Cloud Connected and said it was copyright blocked.
There's a darker version of this song that is remixed by Ihsahn, a black metal legend. I would highly recommend you check it out!
Threat Signal - Aura
Great fucking solo !!!!
Never heard this band before, they sound almost identical to Dark Tranquility.
u are joking right? xD
Hi Geebz . . . . !

not really. listen to Dark Tranquillity where the vocalist is from. I'd recommend Nothing to No One
