The original greek word for Torment is :Basanizo" which means to try metals by the touchstone. Brimstone is "Thion". It is regarded as having the power to cleanse, purify and ward off desease. Fire is :Pur" which means to purify. And Forever and ever is aoinos es aoins which means ages to ages. According to the originallanguage of scripture the lake of fire is this... to try metals on the touchstone, cleanse and purify for agreggated periods of time. Not the torture chamber churches preach
@Himekahorselover Pope John II said that "hell is the separation from God," which fits with NDE research if you interpret God as your soul, spirit or true nature/self. Opposite finding your true self or God within (love) is the key to heaven and the way not to end up in hell.
It would be great to get to a point where the whole concept of judgement is totally and completely stripped from our very being. Judgement, as with anger, is so deeply ingrained in our psyche, and to rid ourselves of it would be amazing beyond what mere words can describe.
@lovestopsfear And yes it is positive because in NDE research and spiritual maturity hell is seen as a blessing in disguise. It is not a punishment but as change to learn from our mistakes - thus not something negative.
@lovestopsfear Dave is describing his life review, which would be the actual Purgatory and how it was felt for him. The point is as the "separation from God" on the other side, which is not physical, hell is not a literal place but a state of mind: the pain of separation. The video is intended to open up to a broader perspective on what hell is.
@xophaser That depends on your definition of hell. If you expect literal fire and demons, then you are right this video does not confirm your pre-conceived belief. But if you define hell like e.g. Pope John II as the separation from God, then the painful life-review talked about here is an actual account of hell as our separation from God is often manifested through un-loving actions towards others.
@lovestopsfear Yes, I am trying to say that the life review IS purgatory - and even in hell like experiences the review plays a key role as e.g. demons are seen as hauntings from the past. So, I am trying to break the dogmatic category of hell and purgatory by linking them to real experience of purgatory and hell. Keeping dogma through the literal interpretation does not make sense in 2011 when we can actually study real experiences of what religion talks about.
There was no judgement at that time because you were not allowed to stay dead. TheBible says, once to die and then the judgement. Get into the Bible. Mark 16:16 is a very important verse. But you have to read all the Bible after you understand this verse.
i like these videos, but i feel strongly that they are misnamed and that the names are misleading. is this intentional? in this video he is not talking so much about the common idea of purgatory, but his interpretation of the whole NDE experience. the tone of this is much more positive and educational than neutral or stuck as one might expect the feeling of purgatory to be like.
@LightBehindGod if you are trying to redefine purgatory, then i might agree with you. but to say that the life review is purgatory is misleading. also "what does hell look like" is framing the question in such a way that implies that it is a place. but if you believe that it's not a place, why would you frame your question that way? i disagree with your titles not your beliefs. They should be titled: What was your life review like? Is there a hell? What is it?
Hell and Purgatory are different. Each individual's hell will be like how they lived... Purgatory is where you will be cleansed of sin... No one is sinless except Mother Mary and Jesus...

So how does someone end up in hell?

Nope, that is entirely incorrect. The bible was an enlightening book at its time but afterwards it was corrupted by man wanting power.

No, there is no sin and there is definitely no hell.
