Paused it before the video plays just to say that I will watch this, and the episode on Thursday. I am a firm believer that Christmas should be AFTER Halloween, and will not be partaking in anything related to it until November 1st. Let's have the nightmare BEFORE Christmas.
The SECOND Aurora came onscreen I was freaking out because she had Minty's colour scheme. I wanted Minty to be in there somewhere SO BADLY, but a magic reindeer having a colour scheme, and gift giver grove looking very like Santa's home in A Very Minty Christmas? That's almost good enough for me.
I watched this with everyone at ponyville ciderfest. Watching this with so many fellow bronies was fantastic! This is one of the best modern pony episodes/specials and I absolutely loved it.
That scene surprise a lot of fans. There was a flood of blogs on fimfiction and that’s how I found out about the special event. I didn’t think it was going to air so fast
The scenes where Spike was trying to find who had Rarity's name and trade for it was funny. From Applejack's "I don't have Rarity" and her reaction to Spike trying to deny it, to Twilight, Pinkie, and then Fluttershy. Plus the bits with Discord were amazing.
This was my favourite MLP Special hands-down! There were SO many things about it that I L-O-V-E-D! And I sincerely hope Season 9 builds upon both Season 8, and Best Gift Ever, because then it has the potential to be the Best Season Ever!!! ^_^
Speaking about references anone noticed the home alone 2 reference in the begining with the pigeon lady pony ? Also the fact that Applejack said she got the hat from her pops.
So nice to see a show that actually had the time to develop the story properly. If only all the episodes could be that way, lack of time has always been the enemy of the show. Aurora, Bori, and Alice, past, present, and future, clearly the MLP version of the three norns, or the three fates. Pistachio pudding is also green, Josh. "The Gift" is friendship, can't get more totally into the theme of the whole show than that! Thanks DHX, five horseshoes out of five!!!!!
I was just watching a lecture series about folklore, and it got to a part which talked about magical numbers like '3' and '7' happening across many stories. The reindeer go off the idea of past, present, and future. They don't really seem to resemble the three Fates of Greek and Norse mythology that closely, though that was the first thing I thought of. It really is interesting to note how the number '3' is continually used in our folklore, mythology, and religious examples. Silver Quill even mentioned it in his video on Luna's archetype. '3' also occurs repetitively in both human culture and in nature, even down to the atomic level (three states of matter, three strands of hair to braid, three legs on a stool, and subatomic particles coming in threes). Maybe it's just a number that tends to work well. And going back to the show, there are examples of '3,' such as the CMC and the Apple family. '7' is also important across folklore, and human culture has put great emphases on groups of '7' (seven dwarves, seven sisters of Greek mythology, seven sins, seven wonders of the world, seven phone number digits, seven days in a week, etc.). This was even observed on a neurological level, where the brain sends information best when seven dendrites extend from the neurons. And while there are six element bearers in the show right now, there are rumors of a seventh. I don't know how much thought the show staff have put into this, nor to I think these systems are completely universal, but it's a fun idea. www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/a-childrens-guide-to-folklore-and-wonder-tales.html
I'm glad to see a truly Christmas-feeling-episode and know from all of the episode, they answer a simply question. * the train ride cost around 3 bits *
All of your thoughts were very fun to listen to! Thanks for sharing this with us! ^_^ You brought up an interesting point about how the lack of attendants at the Castle of Friendship somewhat reflects Twilight's self-reliance. Being a pony that others rely on must have a great influence on Twilight's reluctance to ask for help. Still, it would be a good idea to hire some cleaners and guards. That castle is a bit big for just three individuals. All that room will only come in handy when there are guests. Also, lunchbox guitars? I'm still working my way through the MLP-related videos on RUclips, so this is my first time hearing of them. I'll have to check out Dustykatt's channel when I can.
I agree with EVERYTHING Bliss said about this episode. It reminded me about all the good things about the holidays and I'm so excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas 🎄
See they bring that up, but the new writers have made it a point to remember spike exists in the episodes following season 4. It's one of the reasons I'm glad we get fresh new voices in the series, most of the old writers were great but they didn't really seem to know what to do with Spike aside from the assistant role. Josh Haber especially seems to love giving him a role in two parters when he does them. The point is the new writers seem to really know what makes Spike work and that he should be included more.
RedfurredPikachu Uh...I meant these four bringing up how spike gets forgotten a lot, yet in their excitement they also ended up forgetting about spikes story until the very end of the video.
Dustykatt Rhoades was at Ponyville Ciderfest this weekend, I think he watched the episode and he made a left hand (on accident) lunch box guitar for the charity auction. It was so much fun watching the special with a bunch of Bronies. This was the best special of G4 ever!
I have to say this was a good episode. Just watched it on Netflix. Seriously I already knew what those three reindeer meant but the episode was so good. There were some eh parts but some really good parts. Also "pudddddddinggg" XD
Even thought it was a longer slice of life, the last song had a VERY strong series finale feeling: it was about friendship, the main theme of the series, and it had a montage with many of the characters of the series even some ones who didn't have a part in the special. That reminded me the final scene of Adventure Time with the extended version of Come Along With Me...... I've taken a decision: if the S9 (which will be the final one) and the series finale, will let me down, then Best Gift Ever will become the series finale for me. I really want to remember the characters of this show as the best as I can, and for now this special will do it for me. Of course, it's just a precaution I'm taking, doubt I will have to put it in act anyway, but it's better to have it just in case, after all the Samurai Jack series finale let me down so badly that I even came to make my own headcanon ending...
I was starting to get that vibe too, if season 9 is the finale to the show then this really does seem like a love letter to the fans before the final season, and honestly it left such a smile on my face that it's gotten me to accept that the season 9 might be the end.
Upon thinking about it... while the reception of the special was spectacularly positive, I can't help but feeling bad for the few ones who didn't enjoy it. This was one of the funniest episodes in the series, and it also present several emotional moments. It's REALLY hard to not laugh or smile to anything in this episode. If someone didn't enjoy this, then it means they are just not able to smile anymore...
This is technically season 9 ep 0. Now we know what to expect from season 9 in general. All of the 8 seasons mashed up, and considering “the other side” trailer, I bet EQG and normal MLP will have a big mash up. MLP gen 4 will have a great ending. And gen 5, well... we know what to expect. Epicness. Beauty. Chaos. Perfection.
they better have a finale showing why the ponies changes races, like discord ends up having to rebuild the world or the main six have to do it with the elements and rainbow power and it changes everything
Leostar that wouldn't make any sense to have a finale lead into G5, because it's *not* a sequel. It's a completely separate series. Just like the G1, G1.5, G3, and G3.5 series were all disconnected from each other.
The ship was not incestuous. If they are related they are fourth cousins six times removed or something ridiculous like that. It’s incredibly distant and they didn’t even meet as children. If that was incest nobody in small town or even a country could marry.
You all had fun watching I see. Same. So much fun, so many tears of joy, and so many things to add to written works. WAIT COLORING OF MINTY!!! Notes: Magical senses of gifts, note for reindeer. Also, antlers, not horns. Spell: Swap Teleportation: following the same lines of teleportation but instead you swap places with an object rather than teleporting to a location. The switching does not follow the laws of physics as a moving Flurry is not moving after teleportation.

I watched this with everyone at ponyville ciderfest. Watching this with so many fellow bronies was fantastic! This is one of the best modern pony episodes/specials and I absolutely loved it.
great episode loved seeing flurryheart loved the song made me emotional
Doctor wolf's voice is relaxing in a way
So I've been told :)
That scene surprise a lot of fans. There was a flood of blogs on fimfiction and that’s how I found out about the special event. I didn’t think it was going to air so fast
Amazing special. I loved every moment of it.
When it comes to gifting, I rely on one gift, drawing something :D
#Pudding :)
#SecretSanta
I loved this episode so much! I'm so satisfied!! Best Episode ever!! :)
You brought up an interesting point about how the lack of attendants at the Castle of Friendship somewhat reflects Twilight's self-reliance.
Great! You lot made me remember Giga Pudding!! I thought I was over that song!!!
you've told Tyandaga right?
@@hannahbutler8038 He did on twitter.
I agree with EVERYTHING Bliss said about this episode. It reminded me about all the good things about the holidays and I'm so excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas 🎄
Complains about how the show forgets spike, proceeds to forget spike when recapping the stories.
Amazing episode. Also did any one else catch it that Discord said "oh for Scorpan sake!" Also AppleJack mentioning her hat as from her father !
When I heard the reindeer rhyme, the first thought that came to my head was how it reminded me of the Fates from Disney's Hercules.
I have to say this was a good episode. Just watched it on Netflix. Seriously I already knew what those three reindeer meant but the episode was so good. There were some eh parts but some really good parts. Also "pudddddddinggg" XD
That first ten seconds alone was enough to earn an upvote. I think that's a new record for me.
Best gift ever was good but school raze was better
Upon thinking about it... while the reception of the special was spectacularly positive, I can't help but feeling bad for the few ones who didn't enjoy it. This was one of the funniest episodes in the series, and it also present several emotional moments. It's REALLY hard to not laugh or smile to anything in this episode. If someone didn't enjoy this, then it means they are just not able to smile anymore...
Did anyone notice that Pound and Pumpkin Cake were singing along during the first song? They're how old now?!
23:40 Josh's face after Aramau mentions having a child 😆🤗
I did NOT see the reindeer coming!! My jaw LITERALLY dropped!!!! :0 :)
So the Reindeer are sort of the Three Fates/ Three Grey Ladies (Perseus and Medusa Myth) of Gift giving? Cool.
Josh has some of the best faces I've ever seen! XD
This amazing special was as good as pudding!
My only downside about it is that we watched it when its not even November yet.
Just because some call it season 9 episode 0 does not mean it is.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 Well, the kids went home for the holiday. In S8, they did not. Thus, this holiday is the next one.
Leostar that wouldn't make any sense to have a finale lead into G5, because it's *not* a sequel. It's a completely separate series. Just like the G1, G1.5, G3, and G3.5 series were all disconnected from each other.
Siggy, they could stayed for most of the holiday on school but gone home for the the actual day and then come back.
Let us have a moment of silence for everyone who shipped Big Mac with Marble Pie.
(Although not really, because that ship was borderline incestuous.)
Justin Riley yeah seriously they had a scene of Marble’s witnesses Mac kissing Sugar Bell.
sad for Marble
Well we still do not even know if they are related yet. We are all still asking
@@mase5995 Better safe than sorry.
The ship was not incestuous. If they are related they are fourth cousins six times removed or something ridiculous like that. It’s incredibly distant and they didn’t even meet as children. If that was incest nobody in small town or even a country could marry.
Aramau... you have EXCELLENT voicing talent!! You're awesome as Pinkie Pie and Rarity. Any chance of you doing comic dubs??
Dang it Lightning, I'm sorry for saying this, but you're so adorable when you're excited! X3
You all had fun watching I see. Same. So much fun, so many tears of joy, and so many things to add to written works.
WAIT COLORING OF MINTY!!!
Notes:
Magical senses of gifts, note for reindeer. Also, antlers, not horns.
Spell: Swap Teleportation: following the same lines of teleportation but instead you swap places with an object rather than teleporting to a location. The switching does not follow the laws of physics as a moving Flurry is not moving after teleportation.
I was laughing and feeling this episode so hard, I could not breathe. It was awesome.
ps. The reindeer are the Fates from Greek mythology.
This definetly the best episode this year and better than entire Season8 put together. Probably the best episode since Perfect Pear
Reindeer do exist in Equestria, I love it
Loved the shining and Cadance moment been waiting for a moment like this since season 2
This review very amazing
16:59 Great moment! Despite the delay in video posting, definitely important that you did that Arimau.
*Starts singing* IT'S THE BEST GIFT EVER! 🎵{Best gift ever..!}🎶
It was a great special. One thing I’m curious about is what did Gallus do for the holidays. Did he go back to Griffinstone despite going to be by himself or did he possibly go with Silverstream to celebrate with her family.
David Weiss I like to think he spent the holiday with Silverstream's family.
The bit where Marble is moping watching Big Mac and Sugar Belle kissing... Also, when the reindeer explained their powers, I was waiting for Josh to go all (Ding) Likes Greek mythology!
Dang, Ari does some good impressions.
