Great video, but it seemed to cut out at 15:51, just when you were about to explain the origin of the Dutch house onboard gift. I scrolled through some of the comments and no one else has mentioned the video cut-out. Have I just jinxed RUclips then?
If you fly economy with KLM you can ONLY get a vegan meal. I've never flown with KLM (and I'm Dutch) and if they keep this up I never will. Can't afford to fly business class.
My husband has a small collection of the KLM houses given to him by his grandparents. Hopefully we can add to it in the future - in Melbourne we are finally coming out of a long lockdown. Thanks for informative and entertaining videos - it has been so nice to travel with you by proxy!
The first time I landed on the Polderbaan was in a Northwest Airlines DC-10 from MSP. The taxi was so freaking long, I thought maybe we'd landed in Brussels and were driving the rest of the way.
@@willemlenteren1485 I had platinum status with NWA. They were an awesome airline. Once they merged with Delta, their service and attention to detail declined. I remember flying to TPE with a connection in NRT on Northwest. I forgot the book I was reading on the flight from MSP to NRT. A week later, on the way back, when I walked onto the flight from NRT to MSP, my book was waiting for me on my seat with a note from the crew. That's how good NWA was.
I loved seeing the NWA planes at schiphol when I was younger. Their grey and red color scheme is until this very day my favorite livery of all time. it's a shame I never been able to fly with NWA it always looked like a great airliner
So many favorites in this video! Paul, KLM, Mexico, delft blue and clogs! Love ❤ I admit I'm not usually a fan of the food on most airlines (I'm allergic to cheese!). Enjoy this one Paul!
Thank you, Paul, for another superb video. You are getting better and better. (The result of hard work and years of experience, of course.) I am very glad that you are now able to fly longer distances at last!
I love herringbone layout because of direct access on every seats. Cathay Pacific is similar that provides comfort and accessibility. Great trip report! 👍🏻
Things only eaten on a plane - tomato juice, with or without vodka, but with worcester, tabasco etc. Wifi - if they can give business / first class people expensive wines and food, plus all the costs of running lounges, which people may take advantage of or not, they can jolly well cough up a few quid for wifi without it being an extra. @@lvthud This was just me with the tomato juice, obviously not everyone on the ground :) ...and yes, the customer pays for wine and food as part of the ticket, but they may or may not have them. Great review! Always appreciate your objective review of the whole journey experience. Buying up the Air UK regional slots many years ago certainly endorses KLM as a UK ‘domestic carrier’.
Great video, Paul! MEX was one of my last long-haul flights before everything went pear shaped. Mind you, that was in Lufthansa First - outbound from Frankfurt on the retro livery 747-8, inbound to Munich on the 340-600. Amazing trip!
Love that KLM lounge at AMS. Before COVID, used to fly Delta PDX-AMS nonstop several times a year; easy to connect to just about anywhere. Love your videos!
I had been struck by how cheap an option KLM is for long-haul flights, routeing through AMS. Your finding the transfer so easy makes it more likely that I'll use them again. But I'll be keeping an eye on food comments in online reviews.
I will warn you, if you have to transfer from schengen to non schengen, the transfer passport check is possible the only place on Schiphol where there could be a line of more than 5-10 minutes. Further Schiphol is a good airport with a lot to see and do.
Great review Paul. My 1st flight across the pond was with KLM. Ams to Msp. I remember them having Nintendo games you could play and served Mcvities Jamaica cake. They also gave out a little goodie bag with eyeshades, toothpaste and brush and headphones.
Watching the approach into Mexico City brought back some memories for me. My dad used to live there and I remember being scared the first time because I didn't see the airport until we were right on top of it! Plane spotting was a lot of fun too. Where he lived was fairly close to the way the planes landed back then (don't know if it has changed since the 90s) and we could see all kinds of planes come in on a clear day. DC-10s, 747s, even the odd 727. Come to think of it, only time I ever flew in a 727 was into Mexico City!
Great vlog as always! When the have onboard I drink tomato juice, or Mr & Mrs. T. Love it! Tried it on ground once. No dice! Every time I fly LH I buy a Versace tie. I have about 5 I think.
My airline of choice since my first KLM flight in 1976 from Lagos to Amsterdam in what I think was a stretched DC-8. Since then, I've flown hundreds of thousands of miles with them, in particular LHR-AMS-ICN vv perhaps 50 return trips. Haven't flown anywhere since Feb 2020 but did achieve Flying Blue Platinum for Life a few years back. Handy. Still have a million miles or so to spend.
Thanks for another great trip report. It was nice meeting you briefly in the lounge 👍🏼. We had the same menu on our way to Curacao and I also had the duck. Indeed, interesting taste but ultimately tasty 😄 cheers! Maarten
Love the video Paul! As always love seeing KLM and their updated business class on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner! Also at 12:55 I only eat Biscoff Cookie Crackers and drink OJ on a plane… Biscoff of course being that of Delta Airlines flights… Cheers! 🥂👍😎

KLM flew the Boeing 747 to Mexico-City pretty much from the start in 1971 when KLM got their 747-200's, flying Amsterdam - Montreal - Houston - Mexico-City (and vice versa) starting on September 13, 1971. Mexico-City continued to be a KLM 747 destination for decades to come. On March 28, 2020, KL686 (the return flight of your KL685 flight to MEX) was the last ever KLM passenger 747 flight, flown by PH-BFT "City of Tokyo". That's of course before KLM decided to temporarily bring back 3 747-combi aircraft (including PH-BFT) flying cargo-only flights until October 25, 2020 when the last KLM 747 landed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport from Shanghai. (flown by PH-BFW "City of Shanghai"). Mexico-City was also the final destination of the Air France 747's, with their last ever 747 flight in January 2016. I was on one the KLM MD-11 farewell flights and one of the KLM 787 welcome flights and I hoped to fly on a KLM 747 farewell flight(if KLM was going to do them, probably not due to environmental/noise reasons), but sadly, that wasn't to be.

Just started watching the channel in the last week and scribed today while watching this video. Great videos and really enjoying the content. Using this as part of my own personal therapy to try get over a massive fear of flying. Keep up the great work 👍
My favorite pass time during flights is watching out the window. I can spend hours doing it. This is the reason I dislike this seating arrangement, it's very uncomfortable to spend long periods glued to the window while having to lean over the armrest and space to the window.
Yep, definitely a downside. But it could be worse, you could be on a Virgin 787 where every single seat faces away from the window! Mad arrangement designed by someone with a fear of heights or something.
Just did Stockholm to Rio yesterday on KLM business. Horrible transfer in Amsterdam, no fasttrack or anything like that, found the lounge awful, with many sections closed and bad food. The good thing was the kind, nice and wonderful staff on the flight to Rio. The food was good (I didnt have to take the Burges) but the snackbar was a shame. Went with Air France 2 weeks ago and I liked them better. Love your vídeos! 👍🎉😀

That burger was unbecoming of business class on a major airline.
Don’t give United any ideas about the burger.

If you fly economy with KLM you can ONLY get a vegan meal. I've never flown with KLM (and I'm Dutch) and if they keep this up I never will. Can't afford to fly business class.

I hate the KLM push for vegan. It's fine to offer meat and vegan but the vegan only bit for economy really pisses me off.
