Mr Bob Marley.....L-O-V-E!!!! Is this the first time listening to him, really? Prepare yourself to be charmed and amazed! Another, gone WAY too soon He was soooooo popular when I was in high school in the 70's. More, James!!!! Peace.
So glad you finally got to Marley. So many great songs -- anything off "Legend" is a winner. Enjoy your new discovery. If you decide you like this style, you might want to check out Gregory Isaacs (for instance, "Night Nurse), Black Uhuru ("Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"), and Desmond Dekker ("the Israelites") among others.
Bob Marley. The singular reason why thousands of white boys grew dreds. And weed. Hundreds of thousands. I Shot the Sheriff (But I Did Not Shoot the Deputy) is a fun Marley song. No Woman No Cry. The whole Exodus album. One Love. Jamming. Oh My God! Jamming!!
for me way bigger than beatles, rolling stones, david bowie or u2... i never met one who didnt liked bobs music... he did more for the world than every pope, ghandi or obama together...
An incredible man. And a revolutionary talent. I'm 63, and I've got a big cloth on my wall with Bob Marley on it. The words on it read Home Is In My Head. I love this man.
Bob Marleys father was a white Jamaican originally born in Sussex in the UK but family emigrated to Jamaica. His name was Norval Marley he was a Captain in the Royal Marines. He was writing from the heart when he wrote One Love.
Im an English man and see Bob live twice in the uk 1978 in staffordshire and 1980 Crystal palace ..he would have passed less than a year later after the latter.... One love
@UCVroh6e9XsY27Nw1tg7MNUw hmmm...to be sure there is so much of significance regarding African American contribution and history that sadly has been either completed omitted or glossed over. The US is one complicated place. I am born and raised in the States, but was lucky enough to have educated, parents, who omitted no one of any race, color, creed or orientation. Recently transplanted to California, I have been learning more about the Mexican culture and contributions...rich indeed. While I do agree the cultural significance of the African American community, I do not agree that they are the only group that has contributed culture. This is where the US is very complicated. I myself am of Irish & Italian decent, with ancestors entering through Ellis Island in NY and Boston in Massachusetts. At a time when Italians & Irish were looked down upon and worse. In fact, when my grandparents married, it was scandalous. Almost as scandalous as when my husband, from the Cape Verde Island off the west coast of Africa and I married nearly 30 years ago. But as I said, I was not raised in a bigoted environment. There are so many people, from so many cultures and countries, each contributing, past & present. Good people, bad people, educated, open minded and not. And many who stay in their own little bubble communities. My wish is for more people to open their minds, learn about each other and embrace and respect our differences and similarities. Long rant, sorry, but the US is not just what people see on the news...each state, each region, each neighborhood is different and has more culture than you may be aware of. I think that's why I love following JB so much. He is a loving, caring open minded young man thirsty to explore so much, with respect for all...learning more, song by song, genre by genre, day by day. I choose to believe there are more of us than not. But to dismiss all the other cultures in the US is misguided. Peace always.
(Stolen from Africa, brought to America) Stolen from Africa to be slaves in America (Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival) Fighting to survive in a strange new land as slaves( Drivin from the mainland to the heart of the Caribbean) Some of the slave wanted the be free so they fled, and those that fled south end up on the different islands in the Caribbeans(Buffalo soldier win the war for America) They fought in the civil war in America to abolish slavery.
I look forward to you reacting to Redemption song. I ain't ashamed to say Bob Marley was the soundtrack to many a good night during my youth. Still have him on a few playlists for the car still.
I was a huge fan of Bob Marley in the early-mid 80s. He was so WOKE. Great education for me as an Aussie teen. Now that I understand how the world actually works (the truth not fiction) I see him as a divine gift to humanity. He KNEW. Also loved Peter Tosh and Ini Kamoze (who had such a unique and angelic voice). I still have the vinyl records from that time.
Stolen from Africa to win the war for America, Enslaved soldiers, Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. It's a fierce protest song with a pleasant melody and reggae riddim.
Bob Marley! Oh boy, where to start? Even my top 20 Bob tunes would change from one day to another! I couldn't possibly pick a favourite, but today I'd recommend Sun is Shining ruclips.net/video/QQQpkll5aoA/видео.html Running Away ruclips.net/video/JaOXc7b2YJ4/видео.html Ride Natty Ride ruclips.net/video/LdR5_bqS8ok/видео.html And Today's vote for best song ever written, goes to... You're in for a real treat, digging into the Wailers catalog for the first time. Amazing music. And then you can branch out. I really love Bunny Wailer's stuff, and Peter Tosh, and don't forget the I Three, and their individual efforts. Judy Mowatt is my favorite of those singers; she has the sweetest voice in the world. And then check out Lee Scratch Perry, who produced some of this; his material is awesome.
Years ago it was a clip on the internet with a toddler that would cry in the car until his dad puts on this song. He instantly stops and bang his head, smiling
