My favorite thing about Thorfinn is that he actively struggles with his philosophies and values. So many fictional characters have a sharp change in values and don't struggle or the author doesn't show how hard it is to have such a sharp turn in values. It makes him very realistic.

Another thing I absolutely LOVE about Thorfinn being placed on a farm is to convey how creating something or giving life to something (In this case wheat) is hard it takes days, weeks, months, and even years to create something of value but as we see in the Farmland arc it only took less than an hour to destroy all that progress and creation when the farmhands destroyed the wheat. Thorfinn had to learn what it feels like to lose something that you spent time creating after his whole life of burning down and destroying and he even says he has no right to be upset about it when he's done the same. Thorfinn I believe at that point fully realized the value in life and creation and how sacred it truly is.

Thorfinn dropped Thors's dagger because he was trying to reach for Askeladd in his last moments. Thors wanted to keep Thorfinn away from violence and Askeladd actually managed to do that for Thors. Such brilliant visual storytelling.

To build on this, I would say that a good representation of a character in Vinland Saga can be found on their hands. Throughout the story Yukimura puts a crazy emphasis on the details of a person's hand. The hands he draws show what kind of person they are, through the cuts of blades or calluses from heavy labour. This can extend to the opposite end of the spectrum with characters holding little wear on their palms, displaying a youthful or innocent character who is possibly blind to the harsh world around them.

The farm arc in Vinland is one of my favorite arcs in manga (that I've read so far), and it turned Thorfinn into one of my favorite manga characters. It was a huge creative risk to change Thorfinn and the story like that, hell in the English release volumes Yukimura even pointed that out himself. But damn did it pay off, I'm also thankful the original fans of the manga stuck with it and didn't let it die lmao.

I agree with Thors in that no one is Thorfinn's enemy, but I have a problem with the phrase "you shouldn't hurt anyone," because of one simple fact: no one is guaranteed to listen and back off, come to your side, leave things in peace. As much as I really do want to believe in peace and going for the pacifistic option, there'll always be someone who wants you dead or hurt no matter what you say or do; as cruel and tragic a thought that might be. It's much more correct to say "you should never *want to* hurt someone," bevause nobody should want that. Nobody should want to kill, to bleed, mangle, strike, or anything like that; nobody should want to harm others.

I used to have a lot of hate and resentment growing up as a child. I later internalized all of that hatred and anger towards myself. Now I’m trying to move past it, but don’t know where to go.

I have read the manga and the anime does it complete justice 👌
If Askerladd had survived it's scary to imagine how much more of a deadly warrior Thorfinn would have become with all his focus.

Farnland Saga is definitely way better than the 1st season for me.
Season 2 has this peaceful atmosphere that was a huge change of pace from season 1 where it is filled with violence and war.
The part that I loved the most is seeing Thorfinn develop over the course of the season and seeing him become like his father, Thors compared to him in season 1 where I didn't really care about him. Askelad and other characters were way more interesting.
Plus, seeing Thorfinn and Einar bond like brothers was truly heartwarming after seeing him surrounded by enemies in the first season.

    From Million Dollar Baby-
Maggie: How is that girl doing?
Frank: She has a concussion and a broken eardrum.
Maggie: Will she be all right?
    Frank: And if she isnt?
Maggie: Maybe i should send her something?
Frank: Well you could send her your check if you like, I am sure she would take it.
    Maggie: .... .... ...
The philosophy of Vinland saga is spoiled and pampered. Violence is to protect the resources you have and get more for you and yours. Without which you die. Without which those that depend on you die. Hence, being proficient in violence is honourable and good. Preaching pacifism is to harm those that listen to you. And to do that is deceitful and a low act. It is better to compete by making yourself stronger than to do it by tricking others into becoming weaker.

Bro vinland saga was a show I knew it was in the ether. Why...did I pick it up 2 weeks ago? Idk....within those 2 weeks it's in my top 5.
    Shonen + Seinen=amazing life changing.
Bleach + Vinland saga= a well rounded individual.

Same, thorfinn in Baltic sea was more challenged on how he handles the same ideology he developed nearly the end of farm arc. Especially when he actually found out who put a hit on thors.

I hope it gets better, because the self-pity is growing mold at this point. It almost feels like the 2nd season was been written by someone else.
