Love your video mate, looking to start adding house plants to my tanks and your videos have been so helpful :)
Fantastic! Glad they’re helping!
I also have dwarf umbrella sedge poking out of my fish tank and I really like how the floating plants gather around its stems. It makes the water surface look pretty and the upper column fish like to hang out under the leaves.
Thanks for using that ginger indoors. Now I’m bringing mine inside for a riparian tank too!
Love it.
You can also grow the culinary ginger this way!
I put Polka Dot Begonia in my tank and it's growing like crazy!
That is wonderful!
Beautiful plants and great info 👍👍
Been searching like a channel like this forever!
This is the best video of plants for riparium, thank you a lot
Thanks and you’re welcome!
Great video! Please do a video showing and explaining the difference between Anthurium and Peace Lily.
I have a Miranta suffering in a pot...gonna transplant it in my first riparium.
Always a great video as always thank you so much 😊 👍🏼
thank you thank you
woo!
hope you're good brother
Thank you for this video, I’m excited to see more of your creations :)
You’re welcome!
Great video! Thanks for the tips 🙌
Thanks, you’re welcome!
If the colocasia works, I’m thinking caladiums should work also. I’m experimenting right now with the Persian Shied, one of my favorite land plants.
Let me know how it turns out!
@plant Adventure, how did it work out?
Another good plant to use are mangroves! They can grow in freshwater and not limited to salt water. It'll need some pruning to keep it small and compact.
Thanks for mentioning mangrove! I still need to try those.
@@plantlifeproject If you decide to try those, the red or the orange mangrove works best. Try getting them as a propagule it'll be easier to acclimate them in the water you want.
How is colacacia toxic to fishes? I have them in my mini pond with Mollies....anything I should be careful about?
Hey Andrew, I have a question, I’ve built a 125g tank (23” tall) aquascaped to look like a sunken Mayan temple. I’m using pothos and, thanks to your videos, lucky bamboo. I want to add more plants to complete the jungle vine look, can you tell me what will produce the thickest longest roots? Thanks for your videos, they’ve been a huge help.
Sounds awesome! Hard to beat peace lily, also mangrove but which is slower growing, golden goddess philodendron also has long roots
I'm experimenting with a money tree and so far the little one is thriving on my set up
Cool! I’m also experimenting with money tree! They are growing well too! What kind of substrate are you using?
@@plantlifeproject I'm using clay pebbles only on a planter which is being filled with water from the fish tank
How often did tank in video need water changes? Want to try this instead of planting aquarium plants in soil
So, how did the black elephant ear plant do?
sub'd, this info is perfect for my paudarium build
Glad you found the channel!
Have you done a video on "aquarium" plants that can grow emersed? Amazon sword, I believe, is one of them. It'd be interesting variation on using such plants.
I have not done this experiment yet but I have thought about it. My concern is that they would need high humidity, but a covered tank half full of water and emersed aquarium plants may solve the issue
I have a 60 cube. What plants would you suggest for window light only. Btw I love your videos!
How much light will be coming through the window? Bright light for a few hours per day, dim light all day, facing east or west, etc. Pothos, lucky bamboo, peace lily, philodendrons, maybe spider plant, parlor palm all do pretty well with low light. Vining plants have the advantage of growing toward the light in order to get the most they can.
Have you tried the inch plant yet? I couldn’t seem to find a video for it! Thanks!
Yes I have! I’m using it in this project ruclips.net/video/Eb1mxCbsYOI/видео.html
What should be the temperature of both the water and room for these plants to thrive.
I would say optimal air temperature range would be mid 60s F up to 80F. Water temperature range upper 60sF to upper 80sF.
This has worked well for me
Awesome video. What substrate are you using for the fittonia and philodendron? I'm planning to experiment growing some of these plants on my aquarium. Thanks and keep up the amazing job. Peace
Thanks! I’m not using substrate for the fittonia and philodendron, they’re just directly in the water.
Although, in one of the tanks I have fittonia and neon Pothos with lava rock/gravel substrate
Can you recommend a houseplant for a brackish water aquarium.?
I have not kept a brackish setup yet, I have heard from another viewer that Pothos can handle brackish water but I have not tried it myself
Have you ever tried the Angel Wing plant?
Are you talking about Angel wing begonia? This one I have not tried yet
@@plantlifeproject yes it roots in water.
What's happening man 🤙
I've got a croton project happening right now. Been a couple months. Have you tried that plant?
I have not tried it yet, but it’s on my list. How is it working for you?
@@plantlifeproject I wasn't confident going in. The things I've read. However, the aquarium I chose is on the warmer side and highly acidic due to all the tannins. It's directly under my led lights and directly over the heater, in front of my outtake. I put it in October 12th. It's been sprouting new leaves. Tiny ones, and the stock hasn't gone soft.
It lost a single leaf the first couple weeks. The rest are exactly the same as they were with new growth.
@@yourtap Thanks for that reply. I currently have a narrow leaf croton but just haven’t set up an experiment yet.
@@plantlifeproject that sounds fun. I really enjoy trying oddball house plants in my tanks. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised.
Put up your Croton project when you getting going. 🤙
Hi!
I have a Neanthe Bella palm problem. I've had it in the aquarium with free roots for a few months now and recently it has started to dry out. When I took it out of the water, I saw that the roots were rotten. How to prevent something like this?
Sorry to hear that! Is this a single, individual plant or several together? They are sold as many plants together when bought as a potted houseplant, I try to thin them out while washing the roots and preparing them for the riparium and spread them out.
If you put an antherium in water, doesn't it get root rot? I love watching your videos because I find them interesting, but I've never put them in an aquarium but I have put them in semihydroponics and the antherium always dies from root rot.
My experience with many houseplants has been that when you put them in the water, the roots begin to die but new roots will replace them. I have not had issues with anthurium dying, I do grow mine with roots free in the water, not covered with gravel or other substrate. Now , I have tried growing certain plants that I’ve seen other people have success with, like spider plant, and the whole plant just rots and dies. So sometimes results can vary from person to person.
If anyone else has anything to add, please feel free to chime in
thanks for the vid have you tried arrow leaf a syngonium
Yes I have, and it grows well in water, needs a lot of nitrogen though, in my experience
the only one I have tried so far is lucky bamboo that I bought at the fish store, Its still alive, but hasn't grown, I don't see much more root growth than when I added it over a year ago. Is this normal?
You should have seen growth by now for sure. Is it getting any light or just ambient light in the room? What kind of tank is it growing in? Heavy stocked or few fish?
Hi, how do you hang the plastic thing on the back of the aquarium that you put your plants in? I am brand new to planted aquariums and I appreciate watching your videos and learning what to do and what not to do.
ruclips.net/video/EBC6UnMzKpY/видео.html The DIY planters section of this video shows the hooks I use to hang the planters. ruclips.net/video/4Zv6VIbRrms/видео.html this video shows how to make the planters. Hope this helps! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
@@plantlifeproject thank you! will watch video.
I tried my nerve plant in my tank and it just wilted. Should I give it more time? Plant it? What’s the secret??
It just may need more time. I have recently planted some as well that wilted but recovered after 2-3 weeks.
Can you tell me if all these plants are safe for Betta tanks, 10 gallon?
Yes, they are. I have grown a lot of different houseplants with bettas and other fish and have never had any problems.
If you are using fertilizer, can this set up hold fish?
Yes, I keep fish in these tanks while using fertilizer. I have been using a deep dirt substrate and the 2 inch sand cap keeps fertilizer from leaching into the water column. Here is an example of how I apply the fertilizer when it is needed

Have you tried zz plant? I can't find anoyone who has tried zz plant. Mine grows very slowly in a jar but I'm scared to put it in my shrimp tank even tho I'm super tempted. Thanks for these videos I love them!
I haven’t tried zz plant yet, but it’s on my list of plants to experiment with!
thanks, I’m glad you are enjoying this channel!
I have zz plants in vase and they're doing well. I've not put them in aquarium for fear of the health of the fish. Lots of these plants are listed as 'poisonous to pets', so is there any danger for fish
Apakah aman tumbuhan itu di dalam rumah
Have you tried sweet potato vine?
Not yet!
Can i use snake plant for riparium ?
Yes it actually grows well hydroponically!
What do you think of using spiderplant for riparium?
I have tried growing spider plant in 2 different ripariums but they didn’t do well. But I have seen other people have success with them. I will have to experiment some more!
I was needing to add some aquarium salt to my aquarium will the the house plans tolerate the salt
I’m really not sure if the salt would hurt the plants or not. You may need to setup an experiment to be sure

hello i have following your videos and learning from them. my research tells me chinese evergreen is toxic for humans and animals, will it leach anything in the fish tank?
i also couldn't find parlor palm but found areca palm which i think is is larger cousin, or is it the same?
There are many plants used in a Riparium that are considered toxic to humans and cats, dogs, etc. however I have not seen any toxic effects on fish.
I think that is a different palm. Check the scientific name. Parlor palm is Chamaedorea elegans
@@plantlifeproject i was worried as it said the sap is toxic
@@plantlifeproject indeed it is, the varieties cause a headache. although shops sell them the many varieties make it difficult to find the exact one. I wanted one like yours I believe its called red valentine but all i could find was one called gold rose
@@plantlifeproject follow up , i got Chinese evergreen and did a cutting to root in the tank. there was a jelly like substance coming from the stem which i believe is the sap that could be toxic to fish. I am letting it heal for few days
