Gas guzzling noisy engines. They lost .. As simple as that, even BOAC selected the B707. Cheaper to acquire, cheaper to operate and cheaper to maintain..VC 10 was doomed the moment it became operational .
The VC10, resplendent in it's BOAC livery, made a huge impression on me as a youngster. It arrived at Ndola (Zambia) airport which at the time (1968?) consisted of little more than a short runway and several Nissen huts. Gorgeous aircraft, I still have my BOAC Junior Jet club logbook!
No wonder it was such a great bird.VC 10 can still match the best new aircraft's boot to boot and outshine them, probably it will loose out in the department of fuel consumption, and thats to be expected because powerful machines consume fuel a lot, power comes at a cost and its not free.I still ask, can we have a modernized VC 10 for the 21st century that will still retain the character of the old VC 10..I love to see one and fly in one.
Absolutely wonderful thank you to all and a little bit of VC tearfulness on my part that we don't hear the Conways or Speys anymore
Thank you it was hard work but worth it if people enjoy it. Of course much more like it at www.andysvideo.com

This is a great video
Thanks Ian, if you don't know there is plenty more at www.andysvideo.com
I was at Brooklands the other day . I really wish I had known that then . I saw it and I recognised the Omani colours .
I still have my Vickers Armstrongs branded drafting scale, on the other side it says Cooke, Troughton & Simms, another Vickers company.
Great video
Awesome video and stories told.
