What I love about Jemma’s cake is that most of them are fondant-free.
I've never eaten a layer cake covered in Crisco frosting, fondant, or whipped cream that I enjoyed. All common in the US.
As a certified fondant hater I thank the heavens for that
Will give it a try
I love fondant lol I don’t know why a lot of people hate it
So true. I love that it’s all from powder sugar, milk, vanilla and butter. Definitely gonna try and make this next weekend!
discovered this as we're getting to the season - looks GORGEOUS, delightfully spooky! i generally reside away from food coloring in baking, but i can't think of a more appropriate season than Halloween to include it! 👻
For my workmates, I made a pumpkin cake the other day and made your cream cheese frosting to go on it.
When I make this, I like to put pumpkin seed brittle on top.
Inspired by the peanut pralinee from a couple weeks ago, I did the same with the brittle. Some of it was drizzled on top of the cake. Some of it went into the frosting. The rest is in a bowl with pretzel sticks next to it for dipping!
Remember when Jemma was just baking some some lil cupcakes and gradually turned into a zombie?????? amazing-worth looking that video up
Yes! Its the only chocolate cake recipe I use. Its lovely, moist and chocolatey😊
I agree, it is very cute. And once again I am compelled to say - you are simply delightful to watch. Many thanks and Happy Halloween.
You are so kind! 🎃
I miss your halloween specials! 🎃🧛♀️🦇🐈⬛🔮
My recipe book is here and I'm so excited to try the recipes in it!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ You can truly see the love, care, and dedication you guys put in every page. 🥰 It was also so lovely to see the C&D gang at the end of the book as well! 🥰 I'm so grateful to our family friend, Zia, who got it for me because I've been dreaming about it since you all announced it!
with so much love from the Philippines,
- April ❤️❤️❤️
Haha I love the background music in this one!👻🎃
That cake looks amazing 🤩
Red chocolate drip as blood with this cake would take it to the next level❤️
Yes, it definitely would. Even an orange drip. Not that it's not cute on it's own but a little extra decor never hurt so long as you don't go way overboard, lol...
Ghost-cake-killa! 😂 And genius soundtrack and editing.
Made this for a friends birthday, this weekend!! It turned out really well!!
Hello beautiful Crumbs and Doilies Team,
I am a 9 year long Cupcake Jemma fan from Australia and I use all your recipes and watch you as my baking gods because I unfotuntaely live all the way in Australia.
I am planning my best friends birthday in December and was wondering if you have ever tried a Butterbeer flavoured/inspired cake?
I love you All
Or a cake using Baileys
I have been waiting for this new vanilla recipe! I'm definitely baking this weekend.. I can't wait ❤
Hope you like it!🎃
FIRST AGAIN JEMMA!
Looks delicious. Can’t wait to make this cake this weekend!! ❤🎉🎉
My mum got a Biscoff S’mores cake from the Crumbs and Doilies website for my birthday last Sunday. It was DELICIOUS!! ❤❤🎉
Big ups to the camera man/editor for including the clean up of the cake board. Every cake video on youtube focuses on cleaning up the top edge and totally disregards the bottom.
Cake looks fabulous! I saw a video about intensifying the buttercream colour, by putting it in the microwave for a few seconds, then chilling it and beating it again
@@MrsBrit1 buttercream is not supposed to be fluffy, its supposed to be smooth. If someone puts too much colouring in, it will become runny. The video i watched, wasn't fake. And it wasn't the only video, offering the same tip. The heat intensified the colour...
The heat does intensify the colour 👌🏼
Hi, I made this cake today. Got the thumbs up from everyone in the house! Now have the rest of the cake sliced up to put in the kids bags for Tuesday night 😊
Woooooooooooow Jemma you are a Super Star my family nd friend will be sooooooooooo happy many thanks God bless nd your family much appreciated

Hi, Would this cake recipe work well for cupcakes ?
It was lovely and soft when I made the layer cake version.
Thanks in advance
Her: "7 inches is already quite small!"
Me: 🥲
LOOOOL 👀
Hi Jemma.
Tried this recipe and it came out the best I’ve ever made until it cooled down it looked lovely and fluffy and the skewer came out clean but sank as it cooled. What did I do wrong please.
Jemma! Whoop whoop! x x x
Where can I find the bowls and other dishware/bake set with the paint on them???
Can't wait to try this one out ❤
Toooo... much... genious... 🤩
Looks delicious x
Would love some levain style cookies please!!!
So many cool faces. 😂
I’m so excited to try this, thanks ❤
You’re welcome 😊
Could you add black cocoa powder to the frosting to increase the "black" color?
You totally could! 🦇
This isn’t your normal vanilla sponge cake recipe. Will try it for sure ❤
Is the "top coat" technique she does common? I've always struggled with that top-to-sides corner and seeing this, it's occurring to me maybe I was trying to apply too much frosting at once. I'll have to try thin coats with chilling in between next time
I have usually heard it being called the "crumb coat" because the purpose is to not get the crumbs on the visible part but it totally makes sense that it would help get sharper edges. I need to have more patience to do that :p
As the other commentor said I've always heard it referred to as a crumb coat but yes it's very common. At least from the Pro bakers I follow. You don't need to use a lot of frosting when doing it. Just enough to cover any crumbs and you're good. Once it's had its time to set up (harden) that's when you can go in with a good amount of frosting. Those plastic scrapers are very handy. Get one if you don't already have one. I noticed a huge difference (not applying too much frosting and my level of frustration) after buying/using it. Good luck. Happy baking...
Looks delicious😋
Cool video Gemma thankyou
Hi Jemma, love the new recipe but can you kindly give me the ingredient quantities for the 4 x 8inch cakes please?! Thank you sooooooo much . 🎂❤️❤️
Looks incredible! Will definitely be giving this a go.
Where is the cake board from? Very funky looking
I hope you love it! The cake board is from a company from Plynthy!
Could yogurt be used instad of buttermilk in this recipe? Similar tang and consistency?
Yes, absolutely 🎃
Can I use the recipe of 3x7” for a 4x6” cake??? 🤔
Hello, can I make this recipe for cupcakes??
I would have guessed pumpkin sponge from the IG teasing (to actually have an orange ingredient in an orange cake xD) but I guess vanilla was smarter for a chocolate ganache :p
If they don’t sell the black color in the us or ship what else do you recommend?
You could use Black Cocoa or activated charcoal powder 👻
Great idea for Halloween.
Just got your new book this morning 🤗. Love it! The pictures are amazing, recipes are easy to follow. This book is "un petit bijoux". Sending 💕from French Canada.
Friandaises ou betises?! Joyeuse Halloween de Victoria!
Hello your cake is always delicious my family eats eggs but I don’t eat eggs.if you can make eggless same cake please thanks
What is a fan assisted oven and how do I know what I have?
The newer ovens are mostly fan assisted these days. If your oven has a setting that allows you it move the hot air around inside it with a fan, that will be it. It allows you to cook food more evenly and reduce the heat setting by 10 degrees celcius or 50 degrees F.
It's also known as a convection oven. Mine is a double oven, the bottom one is convection.
I feel like that sponge should be orange flavour. But perhaps with the buttermilk in there it wouldn't work.
I was hoping it was going to be orange flavored too. Hmm, not sure if the acid from the orange would effect the buttermilk. One way to make buttermilk if you don't have the reg on hand is to add vinegar or lemon juice so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Then again. There's a science to baking so I'd do some research before attempting it... 🤷♀️
سلام
I love the way you cook the heaven things
I just watched a video that said that cream cheese was a disgusting American thing. I was a bit offended since I love the stuff and cream cheese in icing is amazing. So thank you for the vindication!
WHAAAAT 👁️👄👁️
❤❤❤
I am the first here! Love Cupcake Jemma ❤
7 inches is small?
But i thought size didn’t matter 😭
Sadly, I made it for Halloween Very, very sweet. The texture of the cream awkward and not smooth at all.
early❤
I haven’t seen you in a while actually since you still Pregnant So Sorry your Great l’ll be back Darling

We’re Christians so we don’t celebrate disgusting halloween
So why did you watch this? If you don't celebrate Halloween, let other people enjoy it.
Totally appreciate that, however, there are lots of people that do enjoy Halloween so we'd appreciate if we could keep the comments section a happy place 🎃
This one is the opposite of the one that was done I think 2021 or so with black chocolate cake and orange frosting with pumpkin designs ,I would love to make the cake orange flavored cake
You can totally add orange zest to the sponge - add it with the butter, sugar & oil 👌🏼
"7 inches is already quite small " 🥲
LOL
Poderia passar a receita em português?
