I may have to agree with those "trippers". If you were to approach the the throne of your glorious GOD would you have worn what they did? Man, if you have worn the proper wardrobe in a Presidential gala, how much more would you have presented yourself to the GOD of the universe. His glory alone deserves so much respect and not too much of any assumption.
God is not impressed by man made robes that we think are somehow exulted over the simple clothing Jesus wore during His ministry on earth. The apostles didn't go around in fancy robes, yet they honored the Father and His Son by proclaiming the gospel in simple, dirty wraps that became soaked in their own blood as martyrs. God has dressed us in righteousness through Christ. He is impressed by a humble, loving heart that seeks to honor him with your life.
There's man-made fancy robes and there's propriety. You don't wear polka dots in a black tie gala, as much as you don't wear stiletto on the beach.Similarly so, one should present themselves in a proper and fitting outfit in the presence of a Holy God.
