Satherian Midrange gets super boring too. MTG’s design philosophy in Standard seemed to be “midrange = balanced = fun” for awhile, and while it was balanced, it wasn’t fun. Games were very same-y and kind of slow. Now there’s much more variety with the kinds of decks that are available in Standard, and while there are more frequent bannings for overpowered cards now, the format is fun and still relatively balanced.
Having a variety of deck archetypes is essential, otherwise every matchup plays too similarly. All control means its just a war against fatigue, all midrange makes it too draw/curve dependent, and all aggro just makes it mindless mashing. Granted that aggro is still mindless mashing in a good meta, but hey, we had to keep the scrubs happy somehow.

It's fine for a deck like that to exist on the fringes, but there's little interaction or decision making on either side. It should _not_ be as good as it is. Same with the Baku decks of old.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that Priest was absolutely boned even without that. He had fewer board clears than Kibler had huge board reloads with Phaoris, Shudderwock's repeating of Phaoris/Alex/Zephrys and Eye of the Storm, not counting other potential swings of Hagatha's spell generation, and as a Rez Priest who's run out of Rez effects, there wasn't much he was gonna be able to do proactively.
Shudderwock will rotate, as will Witch's Brew and hero Hagatha, all from Witchwood. Zentimo and Totemic Smash from Rastakhan's Rumble will also go. We'll have to see what Shaman gets to fill in the late-game power spikes that Wock, Hagatha and the Zentimo+Hex combo bring, but Brew and Smash are pretty easily replaceable. The deck, as a Highlander deck, is structurally based around Zephrys and Alexstrasza, and those aren't going anywhere.
@@RatchetSly I'm sad that shudderwock rotates, not because of the infinite value but because I play Highlander decks with him. Shudderwock is not just a game ending play card but it can also be used as a really good value generating card tbh
heh. I play quest rez priest but mine has stuff to do some in early game so it's not too boring. I find it challenging myself to time stuff. But that's me :) Also way more interesting lol than the inner fire double health combo.
