  • Tired of boring plastic fret markers? Replacing them is not the most difficult of tasks. Here I go over the easiest way to do a professional job. Plus I got a new guitar! It's a Jay Turser Cutlass, don't knock it till you try it!

    wow the diffrence a abalone dot can make on the fretboard! such a small mod makes worlds of diffrence! 2 of my best and most used guitars have dots and i feel aesthetically thats the only spot they are lacking as i modded alot on them so im going to try this! (doing blocks look like it would be next level luthier stuff) lol

    I did this on my Deering Goodtime banjo, which has a solid maple neck and fretboard. The only problem was the maple wood was softer than most guitar fretboards, and splintered a bit when I took the old dots out. I am touching it up with super glue but it's a very long process tofix.

    • @RobYoungband

      Maple is much harder then a rosewood, etc.

    Pretty cool. I bought a Solo guitar neck that has no fret markers, so i also bought some dot stickers. I might try to inlay some real dots as you show, but im nervous about it. This gives me some confidence.

    Hey great video. I have a question. What do you do if the hols for your old inlays go all the way through the fretboard and you have no "floor" to pour the glue? I just found out that my inlay holes are like that. What do I do????

    So there is no way to remove and replace the same inlay? In other words, the inlay is ruined when removed?

    • @ForsytheVideo
      @ForsytheVideo  3 года назад

      You can get more of the same material, which in this case was plastic, and replace it, but unless an inlay like these falls out on it's own you can't get them out without damaging them.

    Wonder what it takes to do a full top like on the wolf guitars from aio guitars with some killer shell 🐚🥟🦪 I'd be scared that id mess up the fretboard for good and there goes a nice dark ebony or a killer figurered brazillian rosewood which isn't easy to find with wood quality and conservation these days

    What kind of glue did you use?

    • @ForsytheVideo
      @ForsytheVideo  6 лет назад

      Just regular CA glue(super glue). You can use epoxy or whatever you like really as these are not structural. I just like the CA glue because it cures fast. Thanks for watching!
