This became my go to impromptu effect as soon as I learned it. When you know how it works you’d think people would see through it instantly, but it just works. I’ve found people go crazy when it’s their own book off their own shelf. Marc does show a handling for hardback books, but I don’t like the way he holds it. I hold the book from the bottom and keep my thumb between the back cover and last page. That gives enough room to riffle pages. If they call you on the handling, hold the book closed and show it’s impossible to riffle without giving some space.
@@magicorthodoxyNo kidding! I did exactly what you suggested and practiced this on my own. Must have gone through every book in the house and a whole afternoon to feel comfortable. I've learned a few ways to get extra time but I'll save that for when I'm accomplished enough to actually write something.
I picked this up a couple weeks ago and love it! Its certainly a "why in the hell didn't I think of that" utility, but it's a great one! Very informative as always! Merry Christmas! I hope you get something magical!
Marc Paul is good people. His stuff is grounded, down to earth, realistic, practical, pragmatic and highly effective. Love his book test! It is also available on his Penguin Live which is a great value for loads of additional material that is just as solid. Thanks for another great review. Merry Christmas!
If you want to do it with something a little different or as something a little bit different from a book test, I recommend checking out airfield guides. I do it with one that has an airfield on every page, the name is very well positioned to work with this, and there's a map on the page as well, so I can ask them to name a place name from the map and move the focus there. I usually do a full three sequence bit where they give me the first letter of the name and a place name from the map, then again where they only give me a place name from the map, and finally one where they just visualize themselves standing there, looking at a sign with the name on it, and I can end with drawing the sign they just see in their mind (with a little fishing for the design).
My watching your reviews is driving my wife crazy: "We can't afford all these tricks!" But I'm like, "We can't afford NOT to get them." She then shows how good she is by making my wallet vanish for a while.
another great release from Ellusionist with thoughts from Peter Turner 👍🏻👍🏻 winner winner … thanks for the review David … Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎅🏻 🎄
Easy ? I think it's hard. You need to be able to read **-s*** ****. That's hard, for me anyway. I love my Great Gatsby. I love my MOABT the most though. I hope you have a great Christmas. 😊
I sent you a DM on IG but not sure you saw it. You got me interested in Mentalism and I picked up Corinda and Annemann a while back (I actually like Annemann’s material more. Corinda is more like a textbook reference for me) and got the “How to Read Mind Kits” by Peter Turner. The book test in there was my first one and I loved it! What other book tests, gimmicked or un-gimmicked, do you recommend for beginners or those new to Mentalism?
@@magicorthodoxy Thanks!!! I thought you had but I couldn’t find it. I’ll let you know which one I choose. About to watch your review of the Manga Book Test since that caught my eye on Penguin.
You help me and my son pick the right tricks for our shows. I am so grateful for your videos. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas

Far out man, now I want to purchase this one too.
:D
FYI, the solution to the hardcover problem is explained im the ‚Tips&Tricks‘ section of the download.
hmmmmm
It is, but I think Marc has a really awkward handling. I prefer holding it from the bottom instead of pinched at the top like he does.
Could it be that Michael O Brian also explain this method in the Manga Book test?
I literally ordered this within the first 2 minutes of watching your review...
oh my
Please make review on babel book test
I wish I had one

Just fold the hardcovers back and out of the way, then proceed as usual. He covers that in his lecture. Merry Xmas David
yep, id still prefer to use a paperback
@@magicorthodoxy oh 100% agree, no argument at all.
