I have no clue about performance equipment, but do the other mics - the headset type - suck in comparison? StragenTheDragon I actually just did a bit of searching! From what I've read, handheld mics provide do better sound quality than the headsets.(there ARE highquality headset/lavalier mics but they are quite expensive) Handheld mics also allow a singer to move it away from them when belting out a song (like what they usually do!) to reduce feedback and not create a lot of noise/static. So overall, unless a company can provide high-end headsets, idols will use mics if they want better sound quality.
Aha, thank you, that's interesting! Now that I think about it, I have seen/heard some bad quality headsets in action on music shows, so yeah, the hand mics seem to be the safe option for singers. (I also feel lazy now for not looking it up myself, so thanks again! ^^O)

If a person is considered pretty, good singer, dancer,(basic aspects of idols) then why bother adding another person just to get outshined by that member/additional cost? The whole point of kpop groups are so each member has diffrent strength to fulfill another one's weaknesses. Sadly, kpop groups without "visuals" can't ever become more popular than the ones with "visuals" today, which resulted in groups that can't even sing and relies almost 100% on their looks-pretty much just pretty lipsyncing dancers.

You know that not every skinny K Idol starv .Yes most of them go on short harsh diets before shows where they must show their tummy ,legs or abs but korean people in general are skinnier compared to western/european people [Loose weight easily] that is for girls and boys. Yes there are idols like IU, Jimin and Kihyun that suffer/suffered from bad eathing habits/disorders but other mental problems such as depression and anxiety are a lot commoner .

Just a personal opnion but I really appreciate how Mamamoo almost always use mics, it makes them really come off as not just idols but MUSICIANS.
I have no clue about performance equipment, but do the other mics - the headset type - suck in comparison? Because otherwise it shouldn't really matter, and putting a mic in someone's hand doesn't make them a musician. ^^o I get what you mean though, so I hope I don't sound rude because I love Mamamoo to bits for being incredible singers and artists!
StragenTheDragon That's true! I didn't mean to come across as saying that Idols aren't Musicians as well. I meant to emphasize that they're more on vocals rather than choreo. (Choreo emphasized groups often use headsets more, from what I've seen)
You are right, most groups emphasize choreo more than vocals. Your comment just made me wonder if headsets are worse quality-wise, or if holding a mic is more a form of comfort and convenience for a singer. :o
StragenTheDragon I actually just did a bit of searching! From what I've read, handheld mics provide do better sound quality than the headsets.(there ARE highquality headset/lavalier mics but they are quite expensive) Handheld mics also allow a singer to move it away from them when belting out a song (like what they usually do!) to reduce feedback and not create a lot of noise/static.
So overall, unless a company can provide high-end headsets, idols will use mics if they want better sound quality.
Aha, thank you, that's interesting! Now that I think about it, I have seen/heard some bad quality headsets in action on music shows, so yeah, the hand mics seem to be the safe option for singers. (I also feel lazy now for not looking it up myself, so thanks again! ^^O)

If a person is considered pretty, good singer, dancer,(basic aspects of idols) then why bother adding another person just to get outshined by that member/additional cost? The whole point of kpop groups are so each member has diffrent strength to fulfill another one's weaknesses. Sadly, kpop groups without "visuals" can't ever become more popular than the ones with "visuals" today, which resulted in groups that can't even sing and relies almost 100% on their looks-pretty much just pretty lipsyncing dancers.

You know that not every skinny K Idol starv .Yes most of them go on short harsh diets before shows where they must show their tummy ,legs or abs but korean people in general are skinnier compared to western/european people [Loose weight easily] that is for girls and boys. Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai diets are just much healthier in daily basis.Body types such as that of Hwasa's are not so common there. Yes there are idols like IU, Jimin and Kihyun that suffer/suffered from bad eathing habits/disorders but other mental problems such as depression and anxiety are a lot commoner .
