      Hi William. What years? I flew for the airlines Comair from 98-11 but lost my medical (long story). I don’t know why but Comair was packed with Vietnam era pilots and quite a few Navy and Air Force pilots that didn’t end up at mainline carriers.
      Anyway, I remember every pilot I flew with and their life story. I’ve been a fan of military aviation so naturally asked a lot of questions when flying with pilots from that background. We also had a German F-104 / F-4 pilot a British F-4 / Jaguar / Tornado pilot.
      In Additon I flew with a lot of RIO’s from
      Phantoms / f-14’s / F-111.
      Of course we had guys who flew the f-16 and 15. Probably one of my favorite pilots Pat Skeldon passed away in 2014 flew 270-280 missions in Marine F-4’s, one of the nicest men you would ever meet.
      Everyone who flew the F-4 held it in high regard but also understood its limitations.

      D T I was on the Eisenhower from 88-90. There isn’t anything more beautiful than a tied down f-14 with the sun going down behind it. The shape of the f-14 from the front with its wings back and the light just right..... the next closest thing is the F-4 and I mean it is close. Overall if given the choice to fly in the f-4 or f-14.... Id chose the F-4. If God gave me a choice of going back and flying. I’d pick Naval aviation from 1967-1997. Of course... it be a miracle to go back and also a miracle to fly fighters for much more than 20 years

    It’s late, but I wanted to make a quick heart felt comment. I hope it comes accross as intended. And the intent is a complement to the Japanese people.
    I’m a amateur historian in the latter years of my life. I’m also a retired airline captain and ex US Navy.
    I’ve watched Japan transition from post war 1960’s become the largest exporter of cheap goods to the exporter of the best cars and electronic in the world in the 1980’s and 90’s ..... only to see nearly 20 years of stagnation and struggle against ever increasing competition from China and other emerging economies. I’m also very aware of the Transition from feudal warlord to Imperial Japan and the brutality and terror that came from that transition in the 1930’s and 40’s. So in my youth, I still felt animosity from the knowledge that the Japanese had brutally killed millions including several of my ancestors on Saipan and Okinawa. But in-spite of these feelings and in-spite of the real travesties of Imperial Japan...... I have grown to not only admire the Japanese but in a way I believe the Japanese are one of if not the most admirable people’s of this crazy world today.
    The defeat in WW2 and subsequent control and leadership by the US and in particular the very profound influence of General MacArthur somehow was the right mix with the psyche of the post WW2 Japanese people’s. This blending of the US and Japan has been truly remarkable. I am so very proud of the Japanese nation today and I can see that this nation is awakening to the very real threat that China has come to represent not only to Japan but the free world.
    I believe most Japanese are beginning to recognize that a war with China is becoming more likely. The Japanese military is advancing in capability and size at an increasing pace. This video is just a small indication of the increasing professionalism and quality of the Japanese Air Force. As in all things Japanese today, these F-4’s are maintained meticulously. It is a thing of beauty to see this old Warbird still ready to fight and yet we all know their days are numbered. I hope Japan will put some of these aircraft up for sale to private individuals. I’d like to see them flying at air shows for years to come.

    • @joesillamanrs7189
      @joesillamanrs7189 4 года назад +5

      Well said. The Japanese way of life is perhaps the most admirable. There's hardly any crime there. The people truly respect each other and what they have immensely. Are 1st world and high class through and through.

    • @hawkertyphoon4537
      @hawkertyphoon4537 4 года назад +3

      *these F-4’s are maintained meticulously.* They might be old and going to museums soon, but they serve not only their primary mission, but also for the mechanics and additional personnel to maintain that rigor, the high standard.
      ...and beyond the high technical standard, there is enough passion and Squadron culture, for the Aircraft to paint them in vivid colors, to remember their recent history.
      Phat Phantom has served Japan well - not only as a weapons system, but also along its way to the strong nation they are today. May the new Zero serve them just as well!

    • @oldgoat142
      @oldgoat142 4 года назад +2

      Bret, spot on observations and thoughts. I too, am an amateur historian and have been my entire life. I have grown to admire aspects of the Japanese way of life. We could learn much from them. I, for one, am glad they are our allies.

    • @bret9741
      @bret9741 4 года назад

      I think the Japanese realize that China’s preparing for war and that if it has any hope o surviving intact and free, it will have to remain arm and be ready for a surprise attack. I hate to see the world re arm but I believe the only hope we have is to be stronger and able to respond overwhelmingly when the surprise attack starts. China’s military is not for defense. It obvious that it’s focus is on destroying the US and allied nations ability to fight and then its job is to take land and intimidate other nations into submission

    i am in awe knowing the dedication it takes too keep these old beauties flying. However I am a realist and the fact these things almost require structure part rebuilds every 4 - 7 months is Insanely cost prohibitive. The F-4 is a Wonderful silhouette that hides a severely fatigued airframe.

    臺灣無緣擁有F-4,但看到日本把它戰力維護的這個好,也同感欣慰

    When are these slated to be retired? I would like to see them before they're gone!

    Hello, at the current juncture, with these problems that China has been causing with the insistence to say, that the South China Sea belongs to them, invading the economic zone of several countries in Southeast Asia, I believe that this plane should not be retired , in an eventual conflict, it will also make a difference in combat.
    I particularly like Phantom a lot!
    Take care there, man!
