      I have read the manual, but this video makes me realize how much I didn't understand. The ability to set both the incoming and outgoing PPQN offers much more flexibility than I realized, especially knowing the sequencer can be further adjusted against that clock. It seems like having the Mother32 as the bridge between the DFAM and SubH would allow you to have way more variety than was apparent at first glance.

    I have synched my M32 and DFAM with M32 as master then midi cable to my NI S61mk3 from M32 so I can send midi clock to from DAW (no midi out on my Apollo). I have a D&B track at 172bpm and my M32 and DFAM are going nuts! Wanting to slow them down to at least a quarter of what theyre playing at. Can I do this?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Месяц назад

      Yeah, you could do that. There's a bunch of different ways you could configure it. You could set the sequencer to a longer division - or if you look into the menu options, you could change some of the settings there. Let me know if you need some help setting that up and I can try to figure out more explicit directions.

    Maybe I really have to update, but I was totally confused when I started to use also MIDI - it took over the clock - "time" input is not working!? Can I change this?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  7 месяцев назад

      You can turn off "Follow Midi Clock" on page 8 of setup mode. Option 1. Just make sure it's deselected. That should do it. You may need to update to do this depending on how long it's been since you last update. I believe this was something they changed with an update a few years ago. If you have the older firmware, I think the option is on page 3... Or something... If your setup mode doesn't have 8 pages of options, you have the old firmware.

    If I am syncing to MIDI gear - does the midi clock just replace the PPQN thing and then the sequencer steps just run according relative to that (and can be changed to run as triplets etc relative to midi clock???) does that actually make sense as a question? Great video series by the way - I am learning loads (only going through them slowly though as each one opens up new stuff for me to play with!!)

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад

      Thanks. Yes, this makes sense as a question (sort of). The PPQN setting will need to match the master clock you are using. So if you're using another device as a master clock that is sending 16 PPQN (pulses per quarter note) and the Mother is set to 24 PPQN - then the two clocks will be off. So you should make them match either by changing the setting on the Mother or the setting on your other device. (Or neither if they are sync'd up). Once they are sync'd - yes! The sequencer runs relative to that and you can change the values (like run as triplets).
      Basically the PPQN is how the Mother interprets the incoming signal. The sequencer plays notes relative to that signal.

    Hi. If I buy M32 and DFAM in the set and buy Subharmonicon later, I will get the same in the set, what would I buy three together? I will not get a stand but instructions and patches?

    All good. Can you comment on Clock mode? Using Single Clock Advance I can’t get divisions on synced Mothers.

  • @philippe939
    @philippe939 Год назад

    This is a very good explanation.
    I have the following issue:
    In FL Studio 21, with the MIDI OUT option, when I try to let the sequencer start from the SYNC function on the proper midi channel and port, it starts but behaves strangely regarding the clock. It is as if the two clocks (mother 32 and FL Studio) are conflicting.
    Is there a way to avoid this?? It would be helpful. Thx

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад

      Hmm. Are they in sync at all or are they moving at totally different rates? Here's where I would start looking:
      1. Make sure the settings in the setup manual are all at their defaults.
      2. Make sure that the sequencer divisions are set to 16th notes AND make sure the clock is set to 16th notes.
      Do you have a different synth you could use to test to see if the problem exists there too?
      Does the Tempo of the Mother change when you turn the tempo knob while it's being clocked by FL studio?

    I have managed to sync my M32 and DFAM exactly as you have demonstrated. However, when clocking out from my Matriarch to the M32, whatever I do, the M32 plays two notes for every one on the Matriarch. PPQN are 8 on both M32 has single clock advance mode & all other relevant Matriarch global settings set to default. Changing M32 sequencer note output has no impact. really tearing my hair out. BTW thanks for a superb set of well explained tutorials.

      Just worked it out. I needed to set the PPQN for each instrument to it's own default. That is 2 PPQN for the Matriarch and 4 PPQN for the Mother 32. I had been under the impression that synced instruments should have the same PPQN.

Would be amzing if you could reply to this and tell me how it's done. I'm aiming to use my Mother 32 to receive midi clock and RUN information from my DAW and feed that to my Pamelas to create clock divisions and cool euclid patterns that runs my case when i hit record on the daw!

      Get to the setup menu by pressing Shift+Reset+Set End+Step 8.
      Go to page 5 (Clock Output PPQN)
      24 PPQN is selection 15.
      To access values 9-16 press SHIFT+STEP. The Octave/Location light should be Red (9-16) instead of Green (1-8). Press #7 (Which actually represents 15).
      That should do it! Great idea. :)

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  15 дней назад

      @@lardgraves7401 Hmmm.... So you are looking for a signal to start Pam's? I'll think about it. An easy solution doesn't come readily to mind.
      You know you might be better off getting the midi expander for Pam's. Or if you are going to be using Midi with your system frequently - the ES-9 would go a long way. I usually have Pam's at the beginning of my signal chain.
      Alternatively, something like the Korg SQ-64 could be configured as a Midi-CV with three channels and a ton of gate options.

    Ok, noob question, i cant figure out what clock output PPQN to change on the Mother 32 - Currently every 16 notes played on my m32, the DFAM moves 1 step. What am i doing wrong?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад

      Hey. It could be a few things. I'm assuming that you are going from the Assign output to Advance of the DFAM.
      1. PPQN should be set to 4 (sixteenth note). That's the default. (Page 5 of Set-up Menu)
      2. Assignable Output Jack should be set to "Sequencer Clock" (Page 1 of Set-up menu option #2)
      3. Mother Sequencer should be 16th notes. Hold KB+STEP and turn the Tempo knob. Put it to option 6 (Sixteenth notes)
      That should make everything work together nicely. (These are the defaults). Let me know if that resolves it.

    At the same time as the DFAM, the Mother produces sound when 6 yellow lights illuminate in the setting... Not 4, as in the video. Why is this? I suspect that something is wrong with the Mother-32. In the first bank, all eight positions light up at different speeds, even when I turn the TEMPO/GATE LENGTH knob to the lowest bpm.

      Hopefully you've solved this already, but sounds like maybe you've got some swing on the Mother. Shift + tempo/gate knob adjusts swing and 12 o'clock is zero swing.
