This game was so hard for me when I was just a little boy. I think it took me 5 hours last year to complete it. I never knew there was a PS2 version though. Glad I played the PS1 after your video. Thanks for sharing, great job om the editing again!
Thank you!! :D I actually enjoyed making this one way more than I thought I would. PS1 does look better, doesn't it?! It really surprised me how dull the PS2 version looks. Thanks for the comment again!
3:55 'It was a GRAVEYARD SMASH!' I remember this game, a kid's restaurant called Brewster's had a PS1 in it's play area, and it either had this game or Chicken Run in it all the time
The Oasis was always my favorite level, boosted by the fact that it was 1 of 2 levels available in the demo version that was on a PS1 Demo disk which had other PS1 Disney game demos of the time. I hated the Arctic race. Stupid Randall cheating at the start! Also the fact that you have to take the long way to get enough tokens because using the Flingshots means you won't have enough tokens to win while Randall is allowed to take the quick way as he pleases is bullshit. I eventually gave up and quit the race and I still get the cutscene of being awarded the bronze medals so that basically means I don't even have to beat the stupid purple prick to progress and makes the races entirely pointless to do and a waste of time.
For some reason when I saw the Japanese cover of this game, I noticed that the Tomy logo was there and for some reason every time I see the Tomy logo, I think of those motorized "Thomas the Tank Engine" models they've made for several years now.
Maybe this midquel game was a 12 year foreshadowing of Monsters University, judging by how Sulley mentioned to Mike that they went to college in the beginning of this game and that Mike is not as scary as Sulley, as he was told by Dean Hardscrabble and learnt the hard way that he was not scary.
I thought about this myself! I think it's likely a big coincidence but it does feel like foreshadowing. I don't mind Monsters University but I did find it paled in comparison to the original movie. This game was fun, I enjoyed it, even if it was pretty repetitive.
Before this game, I used to be a child that simply played games. Maybe I finished it, maybe I didn't. After this game, I became a child that WANTED to collect everything! All the little coins, all the robots, all the medals! This game was the introduction to the concept of 100%ing a game.
I owned the PS2 version of this game when i was young, and i played the demo of the PS1 version! This video definitely brought back my old childhood memories, thank you for covering this game!
PS1 version was better, but I only rented it. I own the PS2 version and upon attempting to play the whole thing in one go recently, it actually caused my PS2's internal memory to overload, crashing the game. The console's fine, but I think it just lost the will to play the game, much like I was beginning to feel. XD Oddly enough, I too have been looking for that *other* Monsters, Inc. game. Just for the novelty, really. Hmm, shot in the dark, but are you planning to cover Bugs & Taz? If so, let me suggest my favourite PS1 Looney Tunes game: *Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf!* Also, sweet Threepwood's beard, it DOES sound like the Time Team theme!
I'm glad most are in agreement on the PS1 version's superiority. I've already covered both of those games! Bugs and Taz was in my second batch of videos, and the last one to be recorded using the old dodgy webcam and edited using Movie Maker. It turned out... okay. But I've done way better videos since imo. The Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf video was only a couple of months ago! I love that game! :D
My relationship with this game is, I remember finding the PC version at a secondhand store and my mom buying it for me on Halloween, 2008, I was 9 years old. I remember having some fun with it, though I do recall getting extremely frustrated when I was playing as Mike racing Randall on the snow slide. I also recall it looking more akin to the PS1 than the PS2.
I live in Florida, I’ve been going to retro game stores since I was a kid. I’ve never even seen a NA copy of this game and I can’t order a AUS copy off eBay cause it won’t accept US$$$
wile i cant understand the playstation movie game tie in is an prequel and yet foreshadowing monster university a nearly 12 years apart. was a coecicense? probaly, but decent none the less, wile exist Gameboy/advance counterparts but are closes matching to the movie instead.
Thanks but it's okay. I currently have loads on my to-play (and review) list. I was mainly curious to know if anyone knew of its lack of a release in the UK (unless it was released and I was completely unaware). Thanks again!
Ps1 version is more vibrant because it uses illustrative techniques in its texture work to imply lighting, like a painting.
The animation on the PS1 version is really impressive for the PS1.
Agreed! It's very smooth!

They probably used a ufo enemy in the Desert level because of the association between aliens and The Pyramids

There was a restaurant when I was little that always had the Hercules game. Nothing else. Just Hercules. 😂
I know everyone love that song

i don't have a nose reviews Yeah, I agree with you, mate. It must have just been a coincidence. A pretty big coincidence, if you ask me.
that mike actually sounds ok
I played this whene i was 5 omg iam getting flashback
Omg, I had the demo as a kid. The music is the only thing I remember.
You answered within a few seconds. Have you trained these impressive reflexes?
Haha! It's the app, it usually tells me when I get a comment. 😂
@@idonthaveanose Yeah, the same for me. But you're so fast and i'm impressed.
Ha! Thanks. 😂
My favourite version is the GBC one due to the sprite art but tbh I like them all.
i remember this game, was so fun
holy shit, i played this on PC when i was a kid and loved it, i didn't know there was a console release
Before this game, I used to be a child that simply played games. Maybe I finished it, maybe I didn't.

Who doesn’t remember playing this on the PS one I have this game, but it came with a bundle along with Barbie explorer for the PS1
Now, this is a good game.

@@idonthaveanose Checking it out either way. Gotta get them views up! 😁
I'm surprised that Waternoose didn't set off your running joke of "GIANT SPIDER ALERT!!!"...
Haha! I think he's more of a crab than a spider. 🦀
@@idonthaveanose tell that to the number of eyes and lack of claws on his design. I think he's somewhere between the two.
Ahh, I'd still say he looks more crab-like.

As a kid, it genuinely made me gasp when Randall cheated. 😂 I hated that race.
He did monster mash 3:54
I’ve been trying to find a copy of the PS2 version and I’ve had N O L U C K
Oh really?? I see copies all the time in my hometown
I live in Florida, I’ve been going to retro game stores since I was a kid. I’ve never even seen a NA copy of this game and I can’t order a AUS copy off eBay cause it won’t accept US$$$
I’ve even went as far as to google it and couldn’t find any other then just eBay
Ahhh that explains it. Yeah, I thought only PAL copies existed. I have no idea why the PS2 version is limited to certain territories.
I have a pirate version of the ps2 version :)
Also can somebody explain to me why the PS2 version was only in the UK?
I wondered this myself!
Well does it work on the American playstation 2 because I'm hoping to get the monster inc scare island game myself
Not if it's exclusively a PAL release. I don't know that there was ever an American release for PS2. Sorry. ☹
games how can you tell if it's a PAL Release ?
With PAL releases, it usually has a disclaimer on the back of the case in small print saying it's only compatible with PAL systems
Why would they show a scene of warternoose yelling he'll kidnap a thousand children before he let his company die.

I don’t care what anyone says this game is amazing and the soundtrack slaps
The soundtrack does indeed slap.
I forgot to comment again. Um Mike is cool🤷♀️
18.9.22
Liked 2021 (?)
I'm not joking when I say this but I bought this game as a kid stuck it in my PS2 and my console actually broke and I had to buy a new one
i have monsters inc for ps2 ill donate it to u if u want
Thanks but it's okay. I currently have loads on my to-play (and review) list. I was mainly curious to know if anyone knew of its lack of a release in the UK (unless it was released and I was completely unaware). Thanks again!
Hmmmm maybe….
MU is a sequel to this😂 the game seems to mention them trying to become scarers right?🤔
Saw in either 2020 or 2021
Oh He said smash not monster mash 3:55
Dude ure hot
Love ur stuff
Dont give it up
Why, thank you! I plan to keep it up.Thanks a lot for the comment, it means a lot. :D
