Great review JD!! I just received my copy a couple of months ago, and yes - it's superb.. So much detail - the work that has gone into this volume is amazing. I'm old guy, and I watched 1999 in '75 in London on its first release. And looking through this wonderful book, I agree - the design was very much of it's time - just like all shows are after many years pass. But one thing they got absolutely right - the model work - it was perfect. CGI may be fine - but it will never surpass a physical model! Thank you Brian Johnson and Nick Allder!!
Same here!! 😀. I grew up with UFO, and as a little kid, it really knocked me out when I first saw it all those years ago!! So it's going to be greatto.see what the writers & artists come up with!!👌👌👌
Jean-Denis, it was your review of this tech manual that convinced me to purchase a copy. I went for it, despite it being more expensive on eBay. But, I am pleased with my purchase. Space: 1999 was on during my high school days. I loved the technical look of the moonbase, the spacecraft, and the personnel equipment. I think back then we all wanted a commlock and laser pistol. BTW, I'm envious of your Eagle pilot uniform... Getting back to the manual...if you are a Space: 1999, this book is a must. Just wish it had a slipcase--my only criticism. Ciao!
Love that show, as long as you don't think too much about the logic of propulsing the moon with nuclear waste or being able to travel to great distances to other solar systems using the moon as a ship. It's silly and yet amazing designs and props. Season 1 cerebral and considered, Season 2 magical monsters, network execs interference.
So glad you enjoyed it, JD, it makes all the effort worthwhile! We've got a follow-up (or should that be prequel?) based on UFO available to pre-order now :)
Oh, gawd, I was born in '63, so SPACE:1999 was definitely my teenage nerd joy. This book should be here in the Doktor G'Hul Lair, right next to the THUNDERBIRDS and CAPTAIN SCARLET material. I'm not surprised that the Alpha suitcase special edition of this book sold out in seconds, but someday, I will have that book.
@@jeandenishaas I think FanHome has the molds, so might get more stock from them at some point. Watched a lot of Space 1999 as a kid. Had some of the toys. Been thinking about this book and was happy for the flip-through.
Hahaha let's go niche and cover a classic old show! Because I'm old... and a nerd!
Epic serie and a little jewel in your hands.
Agreed!

Haha yes!!
Master Replicas still has some of the Space 1999 stock since Eaglemoss collapsed. Managed to snag a transport last year.
Nice! Got some too before the collapse! Still such a cool design!
