Tom Saguto is teaching a very similar tip, and also regularly mentions Ben Hogan. I’ve followed Tom last summer & dropped 6 shots and feel like there’s more to come this summer
George this also worked for me but it does result in a smaller swing arc. In my case it was deceiving because my contact was so pure that I also gained some distance in spite of lost speed. If you look closely at Hogan's swing you will see a gap at the top between his right arm and the ribcage but the armpit remains tight enough to secure a headcover. There are lots of RUclips vids showing this Venturi was probably the best way to start but anyway if you want I can find the link for you where it was illustrated and explained But keeping the arm tucked sure does work
I enjoyed your video. Thanks. You are a brave man hitting indoors. Or maybe you live alone. LOL I think you are on the right track. I just think you just need to start the downswing with more legs/lower body to come at the ball a little more from the inside. Just my opinion.
You are correct about the way the body controls the golf swing however, because your grip(both left hand and right hand) are not on the club properly , your wrists are not hinging properly. Because of this( bad grip) your hands don't hang low enough. Hence, you are swinging so flat , that you come over the top on ever swing. Also ,after you fix your grip, put more tilt into your shoulder turn.
After using this tip by Ben Hogan I went out and shot one of my best scores in years. My swing was so good that my playing partner the last time I went out kept saying "Oh my God" and "Wow" because every shot I hit was right down the middle, regardless of the club in my hands.
@@dry509 I'll answer for him. Regardless of whether you have a weak grip, strong grip, neutral grip, baseball grip, interlock grip, or Vardon (overlap grip) your palms should be facing one another. Don't have the palm of one hand in a strong position and the other in a weak position cuz they'll be fighting one another and make it difficult to control the clubface when swinging. Also, (for righties) right hand is in the fingers, left hand is mostly a finger grip with the heel pad on top of the grip. There is more detail to offer in describing a proper grip but these are the basic starting point concepts. Got it ?
Some decent pointers, but almost 40 years later and the teacher's advice to not chew gum or suck on candy in class holds strong. Man that part was annoying.
Did you ever try hitting short shots with this drill,if so you would need to stand closer to the ball as your elbows are attached to your sides and clubhead would be on ground.great drill S/J.stay safe.
The best tip I can give any golfer is don't practice indoors ! I have heard of golfers hitting light fittings with the club,or breaking an ornament. Practice outside and hit the ball away from your windows.
Which runs entirely counter to what Mr. Hogan said countless times. There is a time and place for indoor perfection of movements, slow motion work as well as mirror work. Not to mention chipping and putting, which Mr. Hogan did more often than not with Mrs. Hogan nearby in their motel room. But do watch mirrors, overhanging lights and no real balls with full swings.
You don't keep the elbow connected!.....Hogan said he did but he didn't.....if you watch him his right arm leaves the body early....so what he said he did and what he did was different!....
Excuse me, who? That mess? Trust you? Explain please exactly WHO you are and what experience you have to give any advice in this area. I damn well know who I was taught by, how many majors he won and who taught him (surprise!)I know a lot of teachers but you and this other guy…. not registering, twittle dee. Think “DAY JOB” and quit trolling this gentleman with your insights while he’s actually trying to be helpful.
I like most of the video, except you seem to be swaying off the ball a little on your takeaway. Also when you actually hit the ball you were coming over the top and your swing path was a little out to in. Try to shallow that club. Keep your left wrist straight and your right one like you're holding a tray of drinks in your hand.

Tom hits those crispy KFC shots. 😜
Which video does Tom talk about this?
Great job explaining the Ben Hogan tip. Will put it to use. Thanks,
Thank you for your kind words and have a great day!
The hips turn also, plus the left knee turns , and the left foot pivots... the entire left side must turn.... entire body coils.
Awesome video mate. Thanks!
I was wanting to see the glass break on the door when you hit it.
LMAO!

Each to their own brother and good luck
That ball you hit, you came right over the top!!!
I vote anyone else who replies puts a video up of their own swing.

George it was Jim McLean who pointed it out.

Not bad!!! You need to tilt your shoulders more. Check out Stack & Tilt 🙋♂️

Good advice. 👍
Thanks to our friend Ben Hogan. Have a great day!
so George at set up you never ground the club, you hover it and do you do this with every club, driver included ?
What I don’t understand is all instructions say oh get shallow. But if you have a shallow backswing they say it’s incorrect. How?
They would be out of jobs if all they had to say was read Hogan’s “Five Lessons”.
Did you ever try hitting short shots with this drill,if so you would need to stand closer to the ball as your elbows are attached to your sides and clubhead would be on ground.great drill S/J.stay safe.
Yes and this works great with every club. I simply adjust my distance to the ball.

Welcome sir

Adhesion with upper arms, not elbow. Read the book. It was also just a drill.
The Ed Solav
His backswing tip may be fine, but he does not come from inside out but, over the top. Not a good swing.
that is the worst over the top move I have ever seen in 45yrs.
Right down the middle and over the top.
You should try the JIM VENETOS swing or stack and tilt. You're going nowhere with that mess, trust me.

Hogan's first fundamental was the grip. Go back to the start of the book. Your video should be called how to swing over the top.
That’s a hilarious title, a Ben Hogan golf tip that works. Should have included “actually”.

Respect your opinion but I was just trying to make a point and I am playing some of the best golf of my life!
I think you need to get out more George and perfect your technique there are a lot of death moves in there.
I do get out and I am playing some of my best golf of my life at the age of 65
stack and tilt. YOUR NOT TILTING
Thanks for your comment but I am playing the best golf of my life.
