I have been a Mazda rotary tragic for more than 40 years. This is and has always been my favorite Mazda rotary model of them all. Well done guys for selecting this iconic car to restore. I couldn't help notice at 4:15 you are turning the engine over by hand in the wrong direction. Haha
My entire family all just sat down to watch this soon as I put it on the telly! What a car, what a piece of history! Can't wait to see more 👌 it makes you guys look like giants too 🤣
Aw that's brilliant! :) I really hope you all enjoyed the video :). It really is a special car and we are really looking forward to getting it done :). And yes, it's tiny!!!
Wow, so much going on in the work shop Ryan. Another beauty to add to the collection of rust buckets. Haha Love the surprises you and Steve (dad) keep rolling our way. Keeps us all interested and looking forward to the next episodes. Be well and rock the rust.
Wish mine was this complete haha. Cool to see another being saved and see the differences between s1 and 2 when pulled down. Let me know if you need any specific pieces as I have already made the dies to replicate the unique floorpan pressings ,bodylines etc. And I also have 2 complete sets of standard underbody components like suspension/arms/diff/axles/steering etc that won't be getting used.
Elo mate, nice to hear from you, We have been watching your videos and some nice work your doing there mate :) Must be nice having three of them even if they are a little worst than ours haha. You must have the biggest collection of cosmos in the world I would think :) shame we dont have the equiptment you do or we would prolly be following the same path :) ours will most probably be with basic tools, so just hammers and anvils haha :) We will keep you posted if we are on the lookout for anything :) best of luck with your builds mate :)
THAT is a car !! I personally know one in France. It is in very poor condition too. It’s been vandalized (how can someone do that?). Much less rust than this one, but lots of parts missing, like front and rear windshield, wanted seriously ! Looking forward to seeing more of this jewel !
The holy grail of Mazda rotaries, as someone who owned an Rx-7 for over 20 years I am looking forward to this restoration, when finished you will have a very valuable car
I am living in Japan more than half century but still only once to watch that 1st Cosmo running. At that time I was thinking like "What the heck of that K-car...? Noooo that's Cosmooooo!!!" Can't wait the restoration goes. Awesome. Cheers YCR!
They are one of the nicest cars ever you are so lucky to have found one, yea its a lot of work but you are the right guys for it cant wait until it's finished, ive never seen one in Ireland ive never seen in the flesh.
Wow, that will be a challenge! I guess there is hardly another Cosmo to take as an example. Then there are the complex forms.... i am looking forward how you will master this rarity to perfection. Success and enjoy!
The seat belt feature looks like the aftermarket ‘tensioner’ that was used to take up slack in the days before inertia reels. I bought mine in Halfords!
What a great car to have in the workshop! Ultra-rare, highly sophisticated for it's time, almost impossible for someone of normal size to get in/out of (!!!) etc. Look at the instrument panel, it's like an F4 Phantom fighter. Fantastic!
I do wonder if it came with a big shoehorn and ten chiropractor appointments as standard if it was ever sold in Europe. That's true for several European sports cars too though, I'm fairly sure I wouldn't fit into, say, a vintage MG or Triumph.
There's an Australian YouTuver called Notevn who's working on 3 of these! One is solid, one is maybe the same condition as this one, and one is even worse. Love watching work on rare disaster-condition cars!
YCR keeps getting more exotic! Ryan is going to give the Datsun and Matt's 635 some hurry up! Gee I have what's left of my life, enjoying my favourite channel and dreaming of how I wished I were at least 60 years younger and could have chosen this trade, over motor mechanics! Watching you guys strut your stuff with rust, is euphoric!
Always wanted one of these, spotted this one forsale on ebay but restoration was beyond what i think i can do by myself, great to see it being done though
Totally amazing and awesome what a great looking car I've never seen one before, that's will definitely beat the Datsun and the Rs 2000 and many others that are held together by the paint filler and fiberglass completely in the right hands Steve and Ryan you work miracles with these cars that most people would walk away from great video and project well done guys💗👍👍👍👍
Nice! Was lucky to spot one of these in a garage while on holiday in Japan. Asked the mechanic if I could film it but said no...took afew sneaky photos anyways 😁 No way I'd fit inside one either.
There's a LOT of panel-beating in the future for this car. So much needs to be remade and welded in. It'll be absolutely lovely once you can get it restored and they do demand quite a good price in good condition. This one, however, was probably not terribly expensive due to its perforated nature.
Oh wow!...A 'Cosmo' you guys just have too many reasons for me to watch your channel!...Lol....Loved these since I was a kid, the almost torpedo shape is so eye catching and very rare (read expensive IF you could find one!)....The Cosmo and the Carol were cars that first attracted me to the Mazda brand and I'm now a serial Mazda owner since 2006.......Look forward to seeing if this is as bad and complex to repair as the 911....Good luck guys!
What a find! Will be an interesting project, and many have said here, it is in good hands. Looking forward to the restoration of this rare icon. If I may make a little suggestion, this is to put up a banner on the workshop wall that reads: "Its us or rust"
I think you guys should invest in one of those laser rust removal tools, it would save a heap of time , wire wheels and flap disk's and is probably a bit kinder to the remaining metal. Looking forward to seeing you restore it to working condition.
great content again never seen or heard of a mazda cosmos then after watching this twice another channel popped up called notevn, he has around 4 of these in various stages of repair maybe get some ideas for repairing.
very rare care indeed, extremely hard to find for sale in japan. there is also the mazda luce R130 that came out around the same time but had a 13A in it. if memory serves me correctly many of the engine parts are similar or same as the R100.
A rare bit of kit that, as for the hidden hole behind the panel, (I'm going to put it out there), Pablo Eccabar's first drug smuggling car. History in the making.
Another exciting project Ryan , Steve excited he had compression I love your enthusiasm lol 😂👍🏻👏👏 when the time comes Aldridge trimming experts in interiors have an electronic welder that does the diamond pattern/ or any other shape for that matter, on the vinyl you’ll need 👍🏻😉
the 110S Engine is so rare it was the first and last time alloy plates were used in production ( all alloy has superior heat expansion) Mazda UK has a Cosmo think its a L10B
This is going to be good Ryan you're gonna have to be more gentle when finessing the bodywork haha there's going to be lot of people wanting to buy it John
Cracking machine. I had no idea. Bet it was good fun. 53 years old. Apparently assembled in Hiroshima, from just 22 years after, we’re told, an atomic bomb was dropped on the city. I recall as a child not quite believing the story, scepticism that’s stood me in good stead as a career scientist. It didn’t happen. Gives you some idea of just how long we’ve been lied to. About everything. The great thing about vehicles of this era is that the way it goes together is straightforward. It isn’t complicated (apart from the engine!)
Can’t wait to see the progress on this, I’d get this acid dipped to see the real work some hours going into this, but I’m sure you guys will do a fantastic job. Great work 👌
What a stunning car. You are obviously planning having Ryan cutting, fabrication and welding for the rest f his working life! It’s going to be beautiful
This is going to be interesting. A mazda built in Japan for the home market and a Datsun built in Japan for the USA market (yes I know yours is UK spec). When they are finished wee need a head to head comparison, Regardless of faithful resturation or RestoMod status.
I have been a Mazda rotary tragic for more than 40 years. This is and has always been my favorite Mazda rotary model of them all.
Well done guys for selecting this iconic car to restore.

you've got my attention, never heard of the Cosmo before, nice little Mazda!
"Go faster gaps".....love it! This will be epic!
Wish mine was this complete haha.
Cool to see another being saved and see the differences between s1 and 2 when pulled down.
Let me know if you need any specific pieces as I have already made the dies to replicate the unique floorpan pressings ,bodylines etc.

wow what a beauty ! really intresting car
I absolutely love the look of the cosmo! Can't wait to see it restored
Great to see you both working together on this classic
Thank you :)
THAT is a car !!

Much less rust than this one, but lots of parts missing, like front and rear windshield, wanted seriously !
Looking forward to seeing more of this jewel !
I love these little Japanese sports cars hence I own a mint copen, but this cosmo is something else....Can't wait to see this complete and restored
"I just love the sound of seat mounting bolts shearing in the mornin' ".....epic! I am REALLY looking forward to seeing the restoration progress.
The holy grail of Mazda rotaries, as someone who owned an Rx-7 for over 20 years I am looking forward to this restoration, when finished you will have a very valuable car
Holy smokes!!! This is gonna be a good one!!! Good luck Ryan, Steve and Richard!!!!
I am living in Japan more than half century but still only once to watch that 1st Cosmo running. At that time I was thinking like "What the heck of that K-car...? Noooo that's Cosmooooo!!!" Can't wait the restoration goes. Awesome. Cheers YCR!
Wow this Mazda is an amazing find and it could not have landed anywhere better than with you guys. Good luck with rebuilding it..
This car is in good hands - looking forward to watching the journey!
Look at that dash! Amazing!
No way this is my favourite car of all time never expected to see it on here I know you'll do it justice!
*This has become one of my favorite channels to watch daily!! Love all your awesome craftsmanship works and detailed restorations. :)*
Sweet L10B 👌...128bhp 10A/5-speed...Fun fact, the L10A's had a yellow air-cleaner housing, where as the 10B's were blue...
They are one of the nicest cars ever you are so lucky to have found one, yea its a lot of work but you are the right guys for it cant wait until it's finished, ive never seen one in Ireland ive never seen in the flesh.
LOOKING EXTRA FORWARD TO THIS ONE BOYS.......
Wow, that will be a challenge! I guess there is hardly another Cosmo to take as an example. Then there are the complex forms.... i am looking forward how you will master this rarity to perfection.
Success and enjoy!
What a great and unusual car. I'm looking forward to seeing progress
The seat belt feature looks like the aftermarket ‘tensioner’ that was used to take up slack in the days before inertia reels. I bought mine in Halfords!

It looks like a fighter aircraft cockpit inside, awesome
Amazing bruv keep being great legendary work 🫡🫡🫡🫡

Oh, that's something very rare, great.👍
Such an awesome upload seeing you guys working together and Steven talking heard some laughs. 👏 👏
Nice one guys, I’ll be following you all the way! Love the design! Seen all of Aaron Cake’s Cosmo.
One of my all time favorite car 😀
What a great looking car
Nice project.
OK, this is awesome. Cosmo FTW! The brightwork looks fairly good.
Love these . Notevn (has three hes rebuilding ) on his channel . good luck boys
Beautiful car.
Always wanted one of these, spotted this one forsale on ebay but restoration was beyond what i think i can do by myself, great to see it being done though
Excellent video guys.... really informative and interesting 👍

Glückwunsch zu diesem tollen seltenen Mazda 😎 er hat es verdient
Que preciosidad de proyecto 😍
What an absolutely cool car , with a rotary engine it must have been untouchable back in the day
Love the new project. 👍
Beautiful car, first time I see one! Will be gorgeous when done! A bit on the crispy side, but with all the talent in the shop you´ll get it done! ☺👍
Miniature E-type / Ford Thunderbird ❤
Totally amazing and awesome what a great looking car I've never seen one before, that's will definitely beat the Datsun and the Rs 2000 and many others that are held together by the paint filler and fiberglass completely in the right hands Steve and Ryan you work miracles with these cars that most people would walk away from great video and project well done guys💗👍👍👍👍
A beautiful car , good luck 🤞
Nice! Was lucky to spot one of these in a garage while on holiday in Japan. Asked the mechanic if I could film it but said no...took afew sneaky photos anyways 😁 No way I'd fit inside one either.
Great work as always guys keep up the good work 👍👍
1st gen mazda cosmos is one of my favorite cars, im happy people still haven’t discovered them.
Beautiful Mazda!
OK now we are talking.. that is a nice motor, looking forward to seeing this one put back to mint condition.
There's a LOT of panel-beating in the future for this car. So much needs to be remade and welded in. It'll be absolutely lovely once you can get it restored and they do demand quite a good price in good condition. This one, however, was probably not terribly expensive due to its perforated nature.
The appropriate music would be that track where the girl says “Why don’t we run away. Far away”.
This is going to be good.
What a fantastic project, look foreward to the next instalment. Well done!
Mazda we’re always ahead of the ideas
Okay another restoration project to watch and learn from... I'm in! Thumbs Up!
It will be nice looking again, someday! 😉
u are the boys to make that a nice car
"Rotary engine was revolutionary!" haha lovin' yer work!
What a cool car that is! Looking forward to seeing it road worthy once again... Too bad your head and feet will need removal to drive it, Ryan. 😂
Looking forward to the resurrection of such a rare vehicle.
Cool looking car and clearly got a bit of Stingray in its design.
What a find! Will be an interesting project, and many have said here, it is in good hands. Looking forward to the restoration of this rare icon.
If I may make a little suggestion, this is to put up a banner on the workshop wall that reads:
"Its us or rust"
Worth a fortune when completed !!!
What a cool car, love the Cosmo series already.
Following the Disaster Datsun you now have the Catastrophic Cosmo😂👏
Crispy Cosmo…?
amazng, its got a rx3 savanna steering wheel in it.if you have the horn pad that's worth 2000-3000aus
very rare care indeed, extremely hard to find for sale in japan. there is also the mazda luce R130 that came out around the same time but had a 13A in it. if memory serves me correctly many of the engine parts are similar or same as the R100.
I love the look of these, but it is at least a weekend's work. 😃
If a second gen Corvette and a fourth gen Thunderbird had a baby, the Cosmo would be it.
Bwahhaha! My wife is 5 foot nothing! Perfect classic car for her!!!✌️🤘🇨🇦
Good luck lads! Can't wait to see it when its finished 👍
seems to be an aussie guy building a few of these called Notevn might be worth a look
A small sporty Japanese car held together by Filler and Rust - sounds like a job for YCR , good luck guys - you'll need it!
the 110S Engine is so rare it was the first and last time alloy plates were used in production ( all alloy has superior heat expansion) Mazda UK has a Cosmo think its a L10B
Stunning car but oh dear.... gonna be amazing when she's done tho
It’s a “hero car” - thank you
This is going to be good Ryan you're gonna have to be more gentle when finessing the bodywork haha there's going to be lot of people wanting to buy it
John

I’m no expert but I think Ryan you might need a bigger card board box😀
Aw man. I was hoping youz would start on the Mazda RX4. Youz only have one video of that up. This one is jumping the queue 😄
Doh. Just noticed there was a part 2 for the RX4 (sills).
That's cause the rx4 is my (Steve) personal car and I do it in my sort time. Unfortunately we are so busy I don't have free time atm :)
Cool Mazda 👍👍
Can’t wait to see the progress on this, I’d get this acid dipped to see the real work some hours going into this, but I’m sure you guys will do a fantastic job. Great work 👌
There's a guy in Australia doing 3 of these, Notevn on U Tube, Rj in Oz
What a stunning car.
