@@UncleKennysPlace Something NHRA shouldn't have allowed. The problem is "factoring" When you have multiple combinations and are constantly adjusting the weight breaks to "even" the competition. This almost killed Pro Stock car. Made for interesting combinations, like the Gapp and Rousch 4 door Ford Maverick. To save the class the rules were changed to a standard 500 inch engine and a minimum weight. Sports car racing has "balance of performance" factoring which is the cause of constant bellyaching.
@5:20 will not be comparable in any way shape or form, Bob Glidden did not go about creating monopolies on parts and pieces he gained his win streak from working his ass off and honest driving competition.
Yeah...having a monopoly over all th' stuff NEEDED to Compete DOESN'T make you a "winner"...Hard Work, Fairness, Honesty, Integrity...THOSE make you a Winner...
The way to fix the class is for all the teams tell V&H, and NHRA they are not going to another race until V&H produces the EXACT same parts for EVERYONE.
@cycledrag Think about the era Bob set that record.... No electronics. No fuel injection.... tuning was king. And very full fields of guys with dreams. Way different era. And the competition was massive. Not a 12 car qualifying round...
When nobody can tune a Busa to within 2 tenths of what Herrera is running, especially when it comes out of the same shop, it's painfully obvious that they're not giving everyone access to the same stuff.
Yes for sure. It's always been this way and this is one of the root problems for this class. NHRA has not created a viable path forward for competition. This is why Smith is so frustrated. In my opinion there should be 5 competitive engine choices. V&H has a monopoly.
Racing is Super Expensive and prostock bikes don’t attract sponsorship that’s the side no one talks about . The teams are probably running out of money and dropping out as a result. You want to compete V&H bikes, you need a big budget . There’s no value in prostock motorcycle racing if we are being honest and only a labor of love!

Yoshimura needs to get into the game. Yoshi is probably the only company that could actually give Vance and Hines some trouble when it comes to motorcycles anyways. I rode for a long time and was more a fan of sportbike racing and in that category you had V&H, Yoshi, Muzzy, V&H has a monoploy on the class similar to the cars with being strictly Chevy Camaro bodies, computer controlled EFI, technology based.
The amount of money it takes to field a prostock mc is a bunch. I don't blame any rider that doesn't show up, who wants to go to a race knowing they can't win. NHRA is all about the $, and they are very friendly with the Vance & Hines boys.
This isn't going to happen. V&H know that a rules adjustment will kill their dominance. They will tank a couple of races until Indy, and then win the championship by a small margin. JFR did this several years ago. Robert Height wasn't even in the top ten until Force tanked a final to let him in where he won the championship. With the NHRA quietly endorsing wagering on drag races, it would be financially suicidal to have anyone run off with a points lead at the end of the year.
Byron Hines is the best Engine builder ever. Nick name The Wizard. I have watched VH for years. The top fuel Suzuki was the one that that was a changer of the guard. People need to research and see how the motorcycle drag racing is from the commitment of Vance and Hines. Harley Davidson owes them for their success also.
You said a mouth full there vance&hines is the only one that can save the class but to be the best beat the best just what you said at the beginning of show 95% of the bikes has been touched by vance&hines would you tell the other team your favorite play vance&hines is the best and every body must just face it
Maybe make it a "spec" series in which the engines are supplied by one or two manufacturers that aren't associated with any of the teams. The problem is that I can't imagine that there are many companies not named Vance & Hines that are willing or able to supply engines for 15+ bikes to compete at this level for a whole season. Maybe I'm wrong though. Part of the problem is that few (if any) others have the money and resources that V&H has. I used to work at the race shop in Brownsburg and the amount of Engineering, dev time, machining time, tuning, etc. that went into the 4v Suzuki engine was impressive. MSR is probably their closest competitor and his shop is a fraction of the size of the V&H shop. With the money, name, sponsorships, etc. that they have theres only so much that can be done.
Wait, they have to pay $12.500 to race, that's the entry fee? Screw that! Off topic but when someone says the economy is doing great, show em this video. Big race, lots of empty seats!

The NHRA used to be fair if someone started winning this much they would put weight on them not tell the rest of the class that they can lower their weight knowing good and well that those bikes don't have the weight to shed. Anybody that's my age 60 and above that knows the hierarchy knows good and well that one of the key players is one of the most notorious sandbaggers to ever come along.
I’m surprised NHRA didn’t step in and require carbs and $5000 worth of spec air box To Save The Class. They don’t know why but just know they will.😊😊 Nothing brings our racers like adding another gate keep.
NHRA, i was a season ticket holder here in georgia, when they bought commerce raceway I was like yes, a race here forever! Well they sold the track and nothing close to watch. They ruined racing, look at the empty seats here in va! Sad.
NHRA needs to step in they need to make a minimum weight mandate for ALL TEAMS & RIDERS and they also need to make ONE ENGINE TYPE because you can't have one team destroying the class .
There must be a reason that Honda, Kawasaki, or Yamaha field bikes in this sport. They used too..... especially Kawasaki. They are huge companies with deep pockets.... But if class is rigged between two brands..... why bother.
With all due respect the NHRA has been on the take since the 1970's and possibly back to the 1960's. During that streak you mentioned of Bob Glidden's His Pinto based Mustang was weight factored at least three times, he switched to dodge using the Plymouth arrow and never broke stride at the end of that season (undefeated) NHRA standardized the rules forcing everyone to 500 Cu In BB's and a standard weight over the small block lightweights. Who was funding this to "slow glidden down" Chevrolet of course. They never could run equal to anyone without a little greasing of the palms. Looks like Vance and Hines has followed the proven model of the chevy regime
While everybody else is sucking up to them and kissing their ring I can't help but remember one of the nicest guys I ever met Rodger Mcphail. Ask anybody old enough about him and V&H

If I was V&H, and I leased equipment, I would tune the equipment the same way as your “main” bike. Why? Because technically if the equipment you lease wins, it’s on a V&H bike. You still “win.” Your name is still out there. “I’d like to thank Vance and Hines for giving me the equipment to get the job done!” Good for business in my eyes. You won’t have the entire division pointing a double shotgun at you like they do now. V&H may not care, but if they keep it up, there may not be a division at all anymore.
I think for the class to be fair they need to do what the pro AMA does after every Pro Motocross or Supercross race in the 250 class and in the 450 class bikes must be torn down gone over and checked to make sure the every component in the motorcycle is what it's supposed to be if you actually took a Vance & Hines bike apart and had it checked with the other Suzuki bikes what's being ran you will see that they don't not have the same components is everybody else that would bring more Riders and more Racers to the NHRA Pro Stock class because it would give everybody a boost of confidence that everything is equal but Vance & Hines has the NHRA in their pocket so that won't happen as much as it needs to
i've been a drag racer on motorcycle since I was 15 I'm now 71 I watched the growth and the decrepitude both. I knew this was going to happen and I predicted it 10 years ago that these were not Suzuki's and these were not Harleys these are custom built motorcycles and I don't care what engine you have in that chassis it was going to come to this no matter what and to tell you the truth people could care less because they can't buy this motorcycle and they can't ride it do you remember when it was race on Sunday sell on Monday well the motorcycle industry needs to get back to that make the motorcycle industry make better motorcycles. they need to start racing motorcycles that people can buy and want to ride I can tell you that a bike that runs the sevens or a bike that runs 11s are no different when it comes to consistency you wanna see that double .00 light that's what we're there for all this backstabbing and factory crap just sucks and you're never gonna put an into it because that's how the business operates do you know how many people would show up if you could buy a stock motorcycle put a super tune in it and go racing at the NHRA events there would be big races every Sunday and you wouldn't have to bribe people to ride the bikes. sorry about the speech to text it's not very good but I will say I could go on for an hour about this and I believe I have the experience in the industry to speak my peace I was at the drag race event for motorcycles at Fremont Raceway in California and I had been racing for 10 years previous to that tells you how long I've been doing it we need to boot the idea that a super built motorcycle is what people want to see race it is not pro stock superstock those are just terms used by the industry and NHRA which is losing viewers as the years go by how many teams are in the nitro class now also when you call something the nitro Harley races that's crap it should be nitro bike and anyone with a nitro bike should be able to come and participate like they do in Australia where they draw massive crowds.ok i've said enough
No Question about the Incredible Talent that Herrera has . But it's not fair at all. Vance and Hines are destroying pro stock bike. If V&H provided the same engines to All the league it would be fair for me. So All Suzuki Drivers have the same gear so the little performance tricks of the individual teams would make the difference. But how come NHRA allows that? Another thing, NHRA should consider a certain type of engine for the class for next season. It's My humble comment but I know that is not easy because of the brand's individual engineering I think I would be cool but the same engine type for all bikes would be fair
politics in racing for monetary gain.... as a business strategy it's incredibly smart...as a fan it's meh, but there are plenty of other, more interesting and just as fast bikes to watch
No way! $12,500 is all those guys are making? Byron and Terry put the Pro Stock bike class on the map in the late 70’s. They’ve created a monopoly where no one can compete with them. The writing is on the wall. I think the NHRA will do away with the PSM class all together due to a lack of competition, other manufacturers participating, fan interest and an overall lack of relevance. All racing is headed in that direction, look at NASCAR.
But by the way it pushes the other bike brands to develop their own performance programs and it's also very good for the class. So All the other brands drivers get together with the brand the same way V&H is doing 😊

Vance asking the other teams what do they need to do to fix the class and he asks if increasing the purse would do it and he knows without a doubt he would be giving his team and gage a pay increase. He might as well of just slapped the other teams in the face, spit on them and told em to git gud! NHRA wont step up to make any changes until its just Gage and Gadson that are signed up to show at the next event and when that event comes around they in fact only have gage and Gadson there. Vance will blaim everyone else while knowing that the NHRA is bending every other team over and sticking it to them without so much as a thankyou after each event but Vance doesnt care because it benefits THEIR PROGRAM AND THEIR POCKETS! Gages record is always going to have most fans think their should be an asterix by his record because its obvious thwt the NHRA is holding the pocket while at each event for Vance.
This is getting ridiculous that NHRA has done nothing to make things fair and as for Bob Gliddens that really sucks, not saying he didn’t earn it, but things was tougher when Bob set the record!
I really think Pro Stock Bike needs to be a stock 600 with no wheelie bar. This drastically lowers the price of building a bike and opens the door for other manufacturers. Also, it introduces more visibly obvious rider talent.

Vance and Hines have dominated drag racing for decades, racing Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Harleys, and even a Yamaha.
@@garyjackson3531 Of course, the "Harleys" weren't, and you couldn't touch their parts as a privateer.

Vance and Hines definitely sandbagging. Fast forward to final round. Tell me they weren't sandbagging in qualifying

Why would you buy your equipment from your rival. Think they just might have a little conflict of interest?
Yes for sure. It's always been this way and this is one of the root problems for this class. NHRA has not created a viable path forward for competition. This is why Smith is so frustrated. In my opinion there should be 5 competitive engine choices. V&H has a monopoly.

no comparison between gauge and Glidden
Racing is Super Expensive and prostock bikes don’t attract sponsorship that’s the side no one talks about . The teams are probably running out of money and dropping out as a result. they only care about the nitro classes because that’s where the fans and money are. I have been going to NHRA races since the 70’s when I was a kid. The fan and expectations of them have changed. I used to go and sit through all the pro classes. They have so much squeezed together, the average spectator can’t watch and learn the bikes plus go through the pits to get nitro and concessions. Bike reminds me of pro stock truck end
But the tracks need the two Pro Stock divisions. This is when all the spectators hit the concession stands.

Yep 👍
Byron Hines is the best Engine builder ever. Nick name The Wizard. I have watched VH for years. The top fuel Suzuki was the one that that was a changer of the guard. People need to research and see how the motorcycle drag racing is from the commitment of Vance and Hines. Harley Davidson owes them for their success also.
That Suzuki only won when Bo didn't show up with his Kawasaki.

I used to be interested in PSM, but not in the last couple of years. The class isn't much of a class anymore.
I grew up at Orlando Speedworld and started racing drag bikes around 1985. Jon Meyers was one of the people that i asked advice from. Many Car drivers were friends but the bike guys always helped me as a kid. Kelly McDaniel is one that i still talk to today. Check out his story. Thanks

I was wondering the same thing, something fishy about that. The timing block looked fine
