    I've seen where guys drill a hole in the latch behind the emblem and attach a small push button switch connected to the wire harness. You jus need a momentary switch to basically short the two wired to pop the lock open. Working on mine now....

    You can probably put one from 01-05, it is mechanical. But it's bad that they do it like that to sell new ones, it's the same with the brake housing connector that it can't be reused, inside it they're just kind of a switch

    You don't have to remove anything, Just need to install a small push button switch behind the emblem... Cut one of the cables in the back and solder it to the pushbutton! And BTW is not broken is just the sensor gets dirty. If you open it carefully with knowing what you are doing. you open it carefully, clean it with alcohol re-seal it and it works again unless the part has the contacts broken. You spent more time calling the part cheap that really knowing what was going on.

    Thanks for this It would have been doable in 3 min, but you spurred me to see if 4 clicks on the OEM fob would magically open the tailgate. It didn’t. I also learned how to easily open the inner cover from you. In my case the electrical connector in the door was disconnected! I connected it and the door works. I’ll watch this, as there must be a reason why it was disconnected other than faulty Chrysler connectors that disconnect by themselves - although that would be great if it turns out to be the case. Your fix with electrical tape and wire is just too ghetto. If you short the wires leading to the dead squeeze switch and the door still opens, then the obvious thing to do is go find a little press switch and glue it to the behind of the Chrysler emblem switch and you’d have a working press switch again!

    • @drewsquickfix

      Hey cawag98 thanks for watching and breaking down how this video helped you. Lol yeah my fix is ghetto for sure ha ha. But my pt cruiser keeps having more issues. • @cawag98
      @cawag98 5 лет назад +1

      while you have the plastic round bit and chrysler wing thing off the car, drill a hole and insert the momentary 12v switch inside the hidden area of the round part (where the broken OEM switch is),. Take the old red and black wires off the broken switch, solder or otherwise firmly connect them to the new momentary switch, test that pressing the new switch actuates the door. If it doesn't, check your connections. If it does, put car back together and declare victory!

    • @cawag98
      @cawag98 5 лет назад +1

      @@drewsquickfix I fixed my OEM tailgate switch that went bad, as they all do by purchasing a 12mm momentary switch - a little 'press' button thing. I drilled a hole in the hidden part of the round Chrysler wings thing that you took off the back tailgate .

    • @drewsquickfix
      @drewsquickfix  5 лет назад

      It's just too much trouble to add the switch. If the car lasts a like 10,000 more miles I'll just get a used one at a junk yard $35 for the whole assembly even though its used

    • @drewsquickfix
      @drewsquickfix  3 года назад +1

      Probably need to replace the whole latch they are junk and break easy. However I would also think about a new car or rigging it to stay closed. Or cruisers just keep having issues and are a miney Pit. One thing breaks then you pay and another breaks, then the transmission goes and your all in for $2000 more than the value of the car. That's why u don't see many cruisers on the road anymore. Good luck please subscribe!!

      @@kathylewis7543 thanks fornthe update Kathy yeah key fobs can cause issues too. When my press handle broke, the key fob was the only way to open my trunk. My cruiser still runs barley lol but I switched into a different car since it has a check engine light and won't pass inspection. It's almost reached its day. So much goes wrong on it cruisers. Timing belts fail after 120,000 sometimes and transmissions easily go out too. They just become.money pits sadly. That's why I rigged mine vs replacing it.

    2001~2005 First Gens used a mechanical latch, after that 2006~2010 they did the rear electronical release button, also to cut costs from 3 pc mechanical center latch & 2 piece trims to latter one piece. You talk so much about the button, its wide enough so when finger press against it it opens, if it was a button it either needed to be very easily accessed so when you press anywhere it opens, not with a button. Back then 2006~2010 / 10~15 years ago is was good don't know what you are comparing it with in 2019. other than this your video is very good. the 1st gens are simular to remove just the center latch but just harder to comeby
