Oh man, the barium swallow with a large pill seems a little anxiety inducing! I'm happy you were able to get it to go down and hopefully you are on the path to answers. I imagine that going through years of this must be taxing but you always have such a great attitude. I am going for a modified barium swallow tomorrow afternoon. I'm still in the early stages of just trying to figure out what's wrong with me. I'd really love to see a video one day that goes through examples of meals that you may eat throughout the day. Your tip about leaving the softer stuff for last is really helpful because things that feel "stuck" tend to go down better after!

Hi Carlos, I’m scheduled to do a barium swallow test this Wednesday. I’m so nervous because I’m having issues with an abnormal smell and taste which has left me not able to eat much of anything or drink much because I get so nauseous. Also have been vomiting. I’m so scared that I won’t be able to swallow the barium.😓 I’m glad that I watched this video though. At least I kind of know what to expect because I’ve been clueless. Lisa, they are using iodine these days instead, because barium is becoming harder and harder to source. A lot of countries that mine it, are becoming hostile to western nations now, so it is very restricted. I'm in Australia BTW, and I was just told this on the phone by a radiologist, today.
I had an Endoscopy 3 days ago and am scheduled for the Barium Swallow on the morning. I have chronic constipation already and only go once per week. This is worring me to death! I sometimes get backed up gas and it feels like labor pains. I am so dreading this whole thing. I hope that you are doing well and I commend you for making these videos in order to help others. @@dotee1999 Yes, and it was a piece of cake. I was worried for nothing. The whole thing only took about 20 minutes. He had me drink different things and we watched them on a screen as the moved down my throat. I ended up having a narrowing at the bottom of the tube that leads to my stomach. He also had me swallow a tablet as well. Everyone was so kind. The only thing that happened out of the ordinary was the I had to go pee more than usual and it had a white tinge to it for about a week until it had all left my body. I had no pain nor gas which was a huge relief! I did end up going to my regular primary care doctor several days later because I was having abdominal pain. It wasn't from the test though. I had a urinary tract infection. I took antibiotics for 3 days but they didn't seem to help. I got a call yesterday from the nurse telling me that the results from the culture had come in and I had a very serious urinary tract infection. The first antibiotics didn't even touch it. She called in Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) & I'm on my second day of three days. She said that there was no way of knowing how long that I had it. That was why I had the pain and bloating. I got so down in my back that I had difficulty climbing 3 steps to my house. I couldn't even straighten upright. I pray that these strong antibiotics will do the trick! Anyway, Don't worry about the Barium Swallow. I'm sure that everything will be ok. I'm praying for you! Please let me know how everything goes! ♥️⚘😊

Don't be afraid of it. Just express your concern to the person taking care of your barium swallow and I am sure he will accommodate it. I am sure there is nothing they have not seen. You will get through it fast!
I had this done last year it was uncomfortable having to lay down and be rotated like a rag doll. That wasn’t the worse part the worse part is 6 hours later when I had terrible pelvic cramping and could barely walk. It took me three days to 💩 out a hard white ball worse pain of my life never again
Wow that was really extreme! I had it several times and pooping is a little difficult the first time after the procedure. I am sorry your experience was terrible!
I’m getting a barium test soon. (Still in the process of scheduling it). I have a small and narrow esophagus, and it’s been getting to a point in my life where it’s a problem now. So I cannot burp and I never have been able to burp. I’m 23. It comes up to my throat but then gets stuck. The burp won’t come out. So I need to get my throat checked up. I’m afraid of swallowing it because Of the bloating and my inability to burp. It’s very painful, the worst experience I’ve ever felt when I drink something carbonated, so anything remotely close to that that makes me need to burp I AVOID. Big no no. So this is freaking me out a bit and I don’t want this procedure done. But I’ve suffered so long 😵💫

When you said you started having some problems after surgery. This crossed my mind but I thought I was stupid for thinking it. When I had my son I had to have emergency C section which I was put to sleep for. So obviously tubes etc would have been forced down my throat l. I started having lots of problems from then on. That was just over 3 years ago.

He told me my barium showed acid reflux which I knew and also did a scope up the nose and down to the throat and said all was clear and discharged me. Feel so deflated. I know I’m not imagining the constant feeling of something in my throat nor the food getting stuck in the tubes down to the stomach. I asked about possible damage and he said no chance you wind pipe is different from the food one. I’m at a loss and don’t know what else I can do. ☹️
They should have on hand water soluble barium, looks like grape soda. Thats safer with that condition. I have a small bowel obstruction and getting a barrium swallow in the a.m. to confirm thats indeed the only issue, I also have a hiatal hernia.

I think they would have to perform more testings in order to be “qualified” for a surgery. From my experience surgeons like to see lots of data from different exams to consider you for surgery.

@@king-bs3wu typically you can schedule it if you have a referral from a doctor. Sometimes say they will call you as well because they have to wait for the referral form from the doctor to reach them.
The only surgeries I've ever had done were on my feet and I'm experiencing stuff like this. I don't know what the test results will say but hopefully I'll have an idea of what's going on.
Yeah, NO, I stopped this at 4:27. I heard enough. You are giving people advise to tell their doctors to only use the hare minimum of barium. The doctor can for sure do that at YOUR request, BUT when he doesn’t have the proper amount of information do you really think he is going to care? Absolutely not!! Know why? Because you came in there telling him how to do his job! 😂 Now, you can get on here and try to justify your request all you want to but people like me and other people that actually do this for a living know that when you came in there giving request some doctors and radiologist are just going to give you the bare minimum, note your account that it’s what you requested and move you on out and charge you. Then when your actual doctor gets the results and they are not enough, guess what? Right back in there you go and this time it will be done right! And you will have paid for the thing twice! So, careful what advice you give people, you could cause them the same grief as you are having…
I originally requested less barium because of my issues stated in the video and the radiologist granted that request by giving me bare minimum amount if barium that would still give him all information they needed. By the way you are contracting yourself by saying that I’m giving a request… who gives a request?? Lol I just simple requested. Now the request could have been denied or granted. And luckily for me It was granted because I had an experienced radiologist who knew exactly what and why I was making that request. So nobody here is telling nobody how to do their job so get out of your feelings with that one. It’s unfortunate you’re in this field and that was hard to comprehend. But then again it’s because of people like you why I tell my audience that it’s okay to voice their concerns to their professional team. Some understand and have empathy for their patients and other’s like yourself well… they act just like you! Regardless, much love!

I don’t have gastroparesis. I have been tested for that with a gastric emptying study.

I would say it's a simple procedure. Here in the US, for an endoscopy, they will put you to sleep.

Any luck with sibo theory? There's 2 main sibo test hydrogen and methane,most bad sibo is methane.

Hey bro I'm having experiencing truble swallowing everything so I'm going for my swallowing test but what if something is wrong so how long it take to get surgery cuz I actually want surgery because this is really my first time experiencing not really eating like that and it really kills me to not really want to eat you know I haven't lost an appetite so how long does take to get surgery and what type of surgery do they perform cuz I know it's like different types of surgery the I try to fast and not eat anything because what I'm going through but it's crazy right now like should eat not eat and even when I do eat I feel like I'm pushing my down and I definitely don't want do that I'm losing weight and everything I'm only 25 years old u know
I think they would have to perform more testings in order to be “qualified” for a surgery. From my experience surgeons like to see lots of data from different exams to consider you for surgery.
@@CarlosGranados1 ohk yeah cause this crazy like I had told my GI doctor secretary about what I'm going through it's so crazy right now that I can't even swallow water and I had a endoscopy procedure they said everything is good but I'm still having truble swallowing foods and liquids get the feeling how u was talking about the pill got stuck but the more barium you had drunk it went through but that's what I feel like foods getting stuck in my throat and chest and thank u for responding how are u doing so far today
@@king-bs3wu so have you had a manometry and ph study done done? I know the manometry really checks how your muscles are functioning. Plus you’re also doing a barium swallow which should give your doctor more information!
@@CarlosGranados1 my GI doctor had just order me to get barium swallow test so my question is do I have schedule for the appointment or does my main doctor does cause I had just called to schedule for the appointment for the barium swallowing test they ask me do I have a script nad I said yes but I just have a email from my GI doctor to get barium swallow test
@@king-bs3wu typically you can schedule it if you have a referral from a doctor. Sometimes say they will call you as well because they have to wait for the referral form from the doctor to reach them.

They did.
The only surgeries I've ever had done were on my feet and I'm experiencing stuff like this.
I don't know what the test results will say but hopefully I'll have an idea of what's going on.

You are giving people advise to tell their doctors to only use the hare minimum of barium. The doctor can for sure do that at YOUR request, BUT when he doesn’t have the proper amount of information do you really think he is going to care? Absolutely not!! Know why? Because you came in there telling him how to do his job! 😂
Now, you can get on here and try to justify your request all you want to but people like me and other people that actually do this for a living know that when you came in there giving request some doctors and radiologist are just going to give you the bare minimum, note your account that it’s what you requested and move you on out and charge you.
Then when your actual doctor gets the results and they are not enough, guess what? Right back in there you go and this time it will be done right! And you will have paid for the thing twice!
So, careful what advice you give people, you could cause them the same grief as you are having…
I originally requested less barium because of my issues stated in the video and the radiologist granted that request by giving me bare minimum amount if barium that would still give him all information they needed.
By the way you are contracting yourself by saying that I’m giving a request… who gives a request?? Lol I just simple requested. Now the request could have been denied or granted. And luckily for me It was granted because I had an experienced radiologist who knew exactly what and why I was making that request. So nobody here is telling nobody how to do their job so get out of your feelings with that one.
It’s unfortunate you’re in this field and that was hard to comprehend. But then again it’s because of people like you why I tell my audience that it’s okay to voice their concerns to their professional team. Some understand and have empathy for their patients and other’s like yourself well… they act just like you! Regardless, much love!

Don’t be scared! It’s a quick process. Just Express your concerns to doctors and assistants and they will accommodate to your needs!
