    Love that you mentioned, “we need to work with what we have.” Contentment and getting creative with the space we already have is a great attitude! Thank you for your practical tips and relatable demeanor, how refreshing!😊

    Growing up, we kept our hat and mitts in the pocket of our coat, and we never lost them because it was so simple. We also only had one hook each but we could put whatever we wanted on it

    I love videos like this cause I always find inspiration for myself. Even though I'm not a mom and don't have kids, I still find value in these sorts of videos. We all need a drop zone and dedicated space for our items and we all benefit from cleaning out our (work)bags and putting coats/shoes/... back where they belong. I've been binge-watching your videos (I'm feeling a bit sick) and I'm loving them. Very clear, very simple and it gets the job done!

    When I started working on minimalising my different rooms out of my house but I started in my bedroom which made me feel a lot better using your system and I actually had quite a bit that I didn’t wear at all and took those items to the Goodwill down the road has freed up a lot of room in my drawers

    Just found your channel and love it. Also love how you say to work with what you have and that you aren't telling people what to have or how much. Our entrance is only that with no cupboard or space so we are using a small buffet in the dining room as a drop zone for the kids school stuff. Shoes go in the garage and jackets in tthe bedroom. I would dearly love a drop zone to house everyrhing but there are other things to be grateful for in our house. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration.

      Thank you Hannah! And we were fortunate to have hooks in a closet in our first house so now we could never go back. I think we can probably fit twice as much in there with hooks...but maybe that isn't a good thing ;)

    Hooks can be put on the back of the door too at any height. That way 3-5 year olds don’t have to try and reach the higher hooks.

    Our house doesn’t have any entrance closets!! So we have hooks on the wall for coats and backpacks. We have a tiny nook in our back entrance where I fit a shoe rack. It’s tight for six people though!! It’s been a challenge for me to keep it tidy.

      This is us, exactly! We have a four meter long hallway (rather narrow) at the entrance that is lined the entire way with hooks and shelves and shoe racks for all the stuff for us six people. I have redone it so many times and nothing has worked.

    I definitely need to tackle our closet, and I think I'll try your "daily" idea. Extra shoes and jackets can go to individual bedrooms, they dont have to live in the closet! Our compromise was hooks on the sides of the closet for the kids and a hanging bar for us. We hung the hooks at a height where the snowsuits could hang properly and be put there by the children themselves. And we also have a bin of things that belong to other people.

  • @bethanywarner5989
    @bethanywarner5989 6 лет назад +2

    Hi there! New to your channel, I've been slowing catching up on your past videos, lots of great stuff! So we have what people would categorize as a "small house" it was the perfect size for me and my husband starting out but since having 2 kids it has definitely gotten more crammed with stuff.(!and our oldest isn't even 2 yet 😄) That being said, out entryway we use is so awkward...open the door to a landing just big enough for the door to swing over...then straight ahead is thr steps to basement...and to the side are 3 steps to our kitchen entrance thru another door. 🤪 if u can picture that lol.
    We have the hardest time even getting us all in the at the same time and being able to close the door behind us. We do have a coat rack with hooks on the back wall and a tiny closet leading up to the kitchen... any thoughts on how to create a better "drop zone" here?? Thanks :) -Bethany

    • @TheMinimalMom
      @TheMinimalMom  5 лет назад +1

      Its hard to say without actually seeing the space, but if things physically can't fit where they "should" (close to the door), I like the idea of creating an area nearby if possible, and keeping as little there as possible. We had a situation like this in our first house, so we really could only keep one pair of shoes each and one coat by the door and the rest had to be kept in our bedrooms. It took a little getting used to, and I had to re-train my brain that walking across the house to get what I needed was actually good for me ;) but it was much better than trying to keep everything by the door or in the kitchen like we had been.

    Do you have any thoughts for those of us in cold, snowy climates as we enter winter boot season? One of the only faults of our house is that our back entry (from garage) is TINY. I don't want kids trudging through the house in wet shoes or boots. But we don't even have space for the bench you own, not to mention a closet.

  • @cathyscreationandvlog4224

    I love this video and you have truly inspired me the clean out my closet and get it organized. my question is I'm here in Iowa and my 3 kids have to bring a snow bag to school with them in the winter, where would you suggest putting something like this?
    For anyone that might not know what a snow bag is ,it's a large bag with all winter gear snow pants, snow boots ,gloves.

    • @TheMinimalMom
      @TheMinimalMom  5 лет назад +1

      Good question! So by basic rule of thumb is that we only keep what comfortably fits in our front closet...for us, we can fit all of our coats, shoes and snow gear for all 6 of us...for others, they may only be able to fit one coat and one pair of shoes for each person in the house. So if it doesn't all fit comfortably, I like to find the next closest place...it might be a cabinet or other closet, or it may need to be kept in bedrooms. Normally we think "that's too far to go" or we need it "handy", but with a little re-training, it becomes no big deal :)

    Love the way you've organized this. My problem is that we don't actually have a front closet! We have a closet of sort in the laundry room off our entry way, but it doesn't function well as a drop zone because it is also the laundry room. We also don't have any wall space for hooks in our entry way as it is open and has half height spindle railings between entry area and living room and on the other side to keep you from falling down the stairs. It really is not a well designed space. Any suggestions?
