    Lyrics:
    I will wait for you
Til the sun turns into ashes
And bows down to the moon
    I will wait for you
    It’s a long hard war
Ah but I can grin and bare it
Cause I know what the hell I’m fighting for
And I will wait for you
We were never made to run forever
We were just meant to go long enough
To find what we were chasing after
I believe I found it here in your love
    I will stand my ground
I’m a bad man looking for takers
    You’re the finest thing around
So I will stand my ground
    Cause it’s cold out there
And you know some men search for ages
For the love that I have found
So I will stand my ground
We were never made to run forever
We were just meant to go long enough
To find what we were chasing after
I believe I found it here in your love
Honey I will wait for you
Honey I will stand my ground
    I will work for you
Til my hands are tired and bleedin’
I know what it is from us I’m needin’
    I will work for you
    Like a team of mules
Pulling Hell off from its hinges
It’s the love that I’ll keep tendin’
    I will work for you
We were never made to run forever
We were just meant to go long enough
To find what we were chasing after
I believe I found it here in your love
Honey I will wait for you
Honey I will stand my ground
    I will work for you
    I will stand my ground

Friday 2 weeks ago as I drove my husband of 38 years to the hospital this song came on my Pandora channel.
We sang this song together at the top of our lungs. I think he knew it was going to be bad and just couldn't tell me.
He died of heart failure this past Friday.
My heart is broken but I have sung this song every day since. We were just kids when we married and it was hard but we always had each other and our babies and that was enough. This is the song of my heart. I will wait for you Troy

I’m so very sorry for your loss. After my mom passed suddenly of a traumatic brain injury, I couldn’t cope and cried every day. Three years later, I flatlined during surgery and went to Heaven and got to see her. I highly recommend the book, ‘Proof of Heaven’ by Dr Eben Alexander. It’s very similar to my experience. 🫶🫶🫶

I grew up in West Virginia. Everyone in my family that worked in the coal mines, died of Black Lung. All of them. Thank you for this video. The controversy about this video should not be about two guys in love, but the untold misery and tragedy that coal mining has had on those of us that grew up and live in the Appalachians. People are dying today of Black Lung, people should be up in arms over that.

Exactly. My Popaw served in the Navy during on of the biggest assault in Normandy. Yet when returning home to WV the only jobs where in the mines. Black lung got him and never once did he complain. He was the best man I have ever known. My mom couldn't bare to stay in WV after losing my father then losing her's so when she remarried, she uprooted us kids and my mommaw to NC where my stepdad was from.

God Bless you George and of course to Tyler for this song, and video. All my uncles worked in them also. My granny tried to get them to join the military thinking it would be easier, but 3 of the 16 who joined, died way too early. I had two queer uncles that both found and lost their loves in those mines. I sure hope you found yours and still have them. Much love!! I’ll pray for you every time I listen to this song, which is daily.😊

This is a beautiful story. No other word can describe it better. The fact that the blond man defended his other half, unafraid of the what may come in that circumstances, build a household together, and chose to stay in the same house he built with his deceased loved one, that is true love, one sweet rare true love.

I wish everyone would just see things for what they are and not have to throw shade on anything they don’t agree with. This is a masterpiece but everything Tyler does is so I wouldn’t expect anything less. ❤❤❤

The double wedding ring quilt shown in the last scene is a traditional wedding gift in Appalachia, usually given by the mother to her child on the wedding day. This was a couple deeply cherished and celebrated by their local community.

Beautiful traditions, we cherish those in the South. My grandmother made me a double wedding ring quilt when I got married. She said she started working on it when I was little. Looking at it, I saw scraps from dresses I wore as a little girl. Dresses made for me by Grandma and Mama.

Tyler is changing people.I myself was formerly less than complimentary of male homosexuality but this video has softened my heart and I literally called up a friend that I stopped communicating with just because I seen him holding hands with a guy.Tyler Childers gave me the open mindedness and the bravery to apologize and once I heard my friends voice and heard the contentness and happyness as he accepted my sincere apology. Love is stronger than hate.

After reading your comment, I am literally bawling. That is so beautiful! Your comment is so touching…Especially because I know the backstory on this video. Tyler actually has a family member that is gay and was discriminated against in Kentucky. He left and never came back. You are a beautiful example of what Tyler is trying to gain from this video . If you’re interested in knowing more, NPR (google it) did a great write up and interview with Tyler and Silas house explaining this video. Tyler also put out a video on the making of this song a couple days after the original video aired (RUclips). It doesn’t go into as much detail as the NPR but both are amazing. Much love to you for your compassion and change. Tyler is amazing. He just makes me want to be a better person.

The ending where the old man sits alone is an incredibly accurate visual representation. My mamaw sat alone on her porch many days after my papaw died. It's early, but we have plans. We figure stuff out when we talk, it's never an argument but a discussion. And she betters me, I see my flaws more because of her, and fix them. Not just things she doesn't like, but thinks that hurt me. I bend over backwards for this girl, and I'll do it for the rest of my life with the biggest stupidest smile on my red face. Never have I ever felt this before, and it's a feeling that's not gone away since the moment we met. I don't see myself without her, and I'm so thankful God gave her to me.

I don't usually spend a lot of time reading people's comments on videos because - well, they're usually just attention seekers or hate spreaders, but these comments are simply heartbreaking and awe-inspiring. They're real and full of emotion and truly something special. Whether in hurt or in joy they are love-filled and appear to be from people that have felt unheard and unseen. What a testament to the power of the song and the video to also say and show things that needed to be expressed for them.

The issue is homosexuality shifting from a "Please just accept that we love differently than you." to it being a battering ram against anyone who dares not agree and a Trojan horse for raging pedophilia acceptance (and yes I know not all gay people are). But it absolutely is being used that way.
Way I see it, if the juice itself is ok but it contains poison...we gotta stop handing the juice out till the poison is removed. I think that's fairn

Exactly! I don’t see what the big deal is either. This is so contrived and inauthentic. It’s the most mainstream thing you could promote. The social engineers and corporations LOVE this shit. So I don’t see what the fuss is about. It’s just more of the same thing. Just promoting gay and queer stuff, like everyone else. I’d be more shocked if he’d didn’t use a gay couple. Otherwise the video would be mocked for simply showing the plight of coal miners and coal mining towns. And the corporations and entertainment industry doesn’t give a shit about those people. They love the gay stuff though, so Tyler did well to play that angle. His bosses will be pumped and this video will do well bc it’ll brew up controversy. It’s sort of the “current thing” and most everyone are sheep so the’ll eat it up. Smart move Tyler. This will make you some real dough!

Imagine how the world would be different if it was the other way around.

Immeasurable gratitude for this and so many other works of art TC has given us. My papaw mined coal for 45 years near the Tug river and I grew up in a coal camp house on the Kentucky side. He lived 89 years, but black lung was what took him from this world, so I am eternally grateful for the awareness this video has brought forward. Nearly everyone who needed to make a living back home dug that coal, so a small number of miners likely were gay and undoubtedly faced obstacles. I fly only one flag because it’s for all of us, but simply will not walk this earth with a heart filled with hatred. If you can’t support Tyler due to the contents of this video then you have that right. For those who recognize the beautiful layers of life represented in both the song and video I join you in recognition of something truly special. I don’t feel like it’s pandering to a social movement, based on the career path TC has taken, but that’s just my assessment. What I see clearly is a wonderful video paired with brilliant songwriting and music. I’m proud to be a hillbilly, even if some see that as a derogatory term, and one of the greatest artists walking this earth being one of our own brings me joy. Blessings be with all who read this, especially if you disagree wholeheartedly.

So the version I heard from Tyler was the video was for his uncle who was openly gay in Appalachia, he left, because he could not make a life there. But he was so influential in Tyler’s career, he was very honest. I just find it heartbreaking that so many heard the song and continued support, till they saw the video. The video is a beautiful depiction of love that some men and women never experience. I just love Tyler for his love of Appalachia and his honesty about who we are as humans. The video breaks my heart every time. But I jam the song in my car, in my house, anywhere they’ll let me here in SW Ohio. Appalachian for life tho.

Bigots will be bigots. And they will give massive excuses about “that’s what I was taught.” Well, guess again mf! Just because you were taught that way, doesn’t mean you have to believe that way. Racism, bigotry, exclusion, hatred in general is a taught trait. Nobody is born and then wakes up one day and says “ya know what, I’m gonna hate. Hate is a learned trait. But it’s also a very powerful word that many don’t understand the weight. If you hate one thing, situation or person, it will seep into everything else you love and you’ll hate everything. Religion did a lot of that to us. Not gonna go on a rant. But bigots can be changed. It’s hard to do, but it can happen. Love can and will conquer hate. Always.

As an Appalachian American hailing from the hills of southeastern Kentucky, I have been closely connected to the coal mining community. Both my father and stepfather, along with many friends and relatives, have been part of this demanding profession.I was lucky enough to have went a different path,I’ve witnessed firsthand the harsh realities of being a coal miner. It’s a hard thing seeing someone you love no longer be able to even walk a single step without getting out of breath.I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this song and video,I can appreciate its portrayal of reality. The tale of finding love in a workplace is a common one, reminiscent of how I met my wife a quarter-century ago. Reading the overwhelmingly positive comments on this video is heartening; it reflects the progress we've made as a civil society. It is essential to acknowledge and celebrate these advancements

Another case of Americans having to put up with the portrayal of gay romance. Most. Americans are sick of having to see it in every movie, TV show and video. It's morally and Biblically wrong and it has no place in country music. Take it to the streets of Atlanta and Nashville where it is more welcome.

This is truly a beautiful song. It hits really close for me because I found the love of my life in school. We grew up together and then because of the times back then we tried to live the normal life but we soon came back to each other. We were together several years until I lost him suddenly to a brain tumor. Thank you for making this song!!!

It’s sort of the “current thing” and most everyone everyone are sheep so he’ll eat it up.

    • @MarkGunnMedia
      @MarkGunnMedia 2 years ago

@joleaneshmoleane8358 the plight of the coal industry can be laid at the feet of the owners of those companies and the Republican Party. Coal is fast becoming an obsolete energy source and people are suffering for no other reason than corporate greed.
As far as the song goes, you're right. Smart move by the label to create that particular video. Gay people listen to Country too. The way I see it. America has been shoving white Supremacist propaganda for over 400 years (see Jason Aldean and a host of country songs over the history of the genre itself) As a straight Black Man, I'm not the target audience for that video and I don't have an issue with it.
I've been in radio for 45 years now and was one of a handful of Black personalities doing Country music. I've seen the long - standing problems the industry has had for decades, racism being its biggest. Sexism, homophobia, etc. The industry does a poor job in addressing those issues. So much so that THIS VIDEO is seen as a cynical attempt to create controversy and YOU WOULD BE RIGHT! While individual artists may have an opinion one way or another, too few of them stand on the courage of their convictions. Jason Aldean, for all of his racist dog whistle "small town" bluster, RAN LIKE A COWARD in Las Vegas instead of at least telling people to take cover. No one has any idea about his stance on gun control, so he lets everyone ASSUME that he's pro - gun.
There are so many stories I could tell about the rampant hypocrisy in Country Music and other genres as well.

He is so very kind and empathetic, intelligent and creative, and yet there are so many people who will automatically hate him simply for being who he is. What's sad is that he would go out of his way to help those very people if they needed it, because that's what's in his heart. He would give you his last dollar, a meal, a ride, let you sleep on his couch, or spend hours talking you out of killing yourself. He has a pure and gentle spirit, but those haters think HE'S the one going to hell. Ha!

@justinpoole8314Actually you've got that wrong. Homophobes aren't that straight, or they wouldn't be threatened... He's just a good decent person secure in who he is and in the rights of others...

@BalanceStrengthFlexibility Yep. People who are secure in their sexuality don't care about what other people do in their own bedrooms. I find it weird as hell. Definitely seems they are projecting their own unhappiness / insecurities onto others.

I can’t properly quantify what a difference it would’ve made if people like you stood up for people like me when I was a kid. I’m so grateful younger people now have you. Thank you and the actors, team for a beautiful video.

Hey Tyler, i just wanted to reach out and say thank you. This song going viral now seems almost like a sign to me. I have been on a journey lately to connect with my Appalachian roots on my fathers side. He was born and raised in WV, and he often talked about the love he had for the old hills and hollers he grew up in. My father and I don't have a relationship anymore after years of Domestic violence and his deep disdain of me being Queer. I found that between his violent outbursts there were bits of wisdom and philosophy that came out of his growing up in the primeval mountain range of Appalachia.I think it was my fathers rare moments of gentleness that gave me my love and desire to garden, homestead, make herbal remedies etc. Growing up I often felt as if country music wasn't for me, as if I was unwelcome to a part of my heritage. But now finding your music it feels like a ‘welcome home’. Also if i may say you are one hell of a wordsmith, your music is so well written and full of meaning.

Wow! This is a beautiful response to a beautiful song. I am sorry you had to deal with DV and not being made to feel welcome in country music. Lots of love to you from another Appalachian.

Dude I don't care about the two men in love! This song is a beautiful testament of finding true love and the inevitability of having to watch it leave you! This life whether gay or straight we all face this! Beautiful song and video! Tyler thank you so much for this song! We all need this kind of love in our lives to prove it wasn't all for nothing!

Man you got that right I lost my beautiful aunt this spring to cancer and it makes you appreciate life, this song is the first gay country song video iv saw I'm gay and I cried when I saw how the two guys bonded and as the older guy looked at the dr when he said he is not gonna make it he has black lung disease and how he held his love as he left what I don't understand is why the young man would not keep the co2 on and decide to let go and leave his partner that was a hard part for me. This video was 100 tines better than brokeback mountain, love is love and its beautiful thank you Tyler Childers for this video for thoes of us that have a open mind God bless

I live in Charleston WV and come from a long line of coal miners. My great grandpas dad died when he was young and he quit school to work in the same mine at 13. Never went to school again. People don’t understand how hard Appalachian life was and is still. But we are resilient and love deep with our roots. And love is love y’all
