It's often said Wasim Akram praises even his most blood feud opponents provided they are indeed great. And in the video it's visible that he acknowledges he grew up under the mentorship of imran khan but Kapil was the same impact cricketer for India and it's coming generations. I don't think there should be further questions regarding Kapil Dev's stature as a genuine all-time great.

As captain on the tour to West Indies just prior to WC 1983, Kapil almost singlehandedly won the first test at Kingston despite India setting a 4th innings target of less than 200 for batsmen of the likes of Haynes, Greenidge, Lloyd and Viv Richards. He scalped out the top 4 damn cheaply. If only the target was just an additional 30-40 runs and the bowling comprised of an extra support bowler, India would've won but unfortunately lost by a mere 4 wickets. Kapil had additionally taken 4 quick wickets in WI's 1st innings as well.
In the following test at Port-of-Spain, where the wicket for a change had grass and therefore provided bounce and seam with bowlers like Holding, Garner and Marshall in their prime, Kapil hit a run-a-ball century to help India avoid follow-on. Wisden commented that had Gavaskar played just half as quick as Kapil, India could've set a lead and possibly got an outside chance of winning.
In short, India could've set a great contest against the number 1 ranked WI in its own backyard, thanks to Kapil(and of course Mohinder Amarnath) who led by example rather than speeches.

Nobody, not even in their wildest dreams thought India will win the World Cup!!! The west indies had bought several bottles of champagne, whiskey to celebrate even before the game started!!!! Kapil Dev knew that if India can put pressure on West Indies then they will crumble. India had already won a one day match against West Indies. Not many people know that Kapil was the
1st man to take not only 200 but also 250 wickets in ODIs. From 1988 to 1994, he was the world's leading wicket taker in ODIs, ahead of Botham, Imran, Hadlee, Marshall etc.
Kapil is the only captain to take 9 wickets in an innings.
Only man to claim 400 wickets and score 5000 runs, also only man to claim 400 wickets and 4000 runs in Tests.
(Though Sobers is said to be the greatest all rounder, he managed only 235 wickets in 93 tests at a horrible strike rate of 87 and a poor avg of 34, Sobers also has no 10 wicket hauls and only 6 five wicket hauls.
If you think Kallis was the best, then he has only 292 wickets in a whopping 166 tests at a not so good strike rate of 69 and a poor avg of 32, also again he has no 10 wicket hauls and only 5 five wicket hauls)
World record 184 innings without getting run out.
He is the 1st man to hit 4 consecutive 6s in tests. (Now equalled by Afridi and De Villiers but not broken).
He is still in the list of top 10 wicket takers in tests.
Strike rate of 94 in tests, higher than Richards and Sehwag, 95 in ODI, higher than Richards.
Still youngest to 100 wickets and 1000 runs, 200 wickets and 2000 runs, 300 wickets and 3000 runs.
He is still the youngest man to take 300 Test wickets.
(Was also youngest to take 100, 200 and 400 but these 3 records stand broken now).
At the time of his retirement, he was the world's leading wicket taker in tests, and remained so for six years, until Walsh broke it in 2000.
Scored 500 runs and took 50 wickets in the same year twice (Pollock and Botham have also achieved this feat)
Has been holding the world record for the fastest 50 at Lord's in a Test Match off just 35 balls for 40 years now. (1982)
    INDIA Records:
Fastest century by an Indian in Tests in 74 balls. (Later equalled by Azhar but not broken).
2nd Fastest 50 by an Indian in tests in 30 balls. (Pant now fastest in 29 balls)
2nd fastest to reach 100 wickets in 25 tests (Bumrah is now fastest in 24 tests)
Second fastest 50 by an Indian in ODI in 22 balls (Fastest by Agarkar in 21 balls)
First Indian player to score an ODI century
First Indian bowler to take 5 wickets in ODIs
He is the 1st Indian to complete his maiden test century with a six. (Harbhajan is the only other Indian to do so)
(Myth: Kapil never bowled a no ball: This is wrong, he did bowl no balls.
In this video, Kapil himself says that he had bowled no balls. ruclips.net/video/Otolhum-xzA/видео.html)

Among the other three competitors from his period, Kaypul was a far better fielder.

I was one of the privileged humans on the planet to witness his 175-run innings against Zimbabwe in World Cup 83.

I mean we're talking Dilip Doshi, Shivlal Yadav, Ravi Shastri, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan ... not exactly Bedi, Prasanna, Chandra, Kumble, Harbhajan, Ashwin level; so he was the only real match winner day in and day out.
