- Installing a fixed steering cylinder on a Ford/New Holland 1520 tractor. Then installing a guard to protect it from being damaged.
The video where I break the tractor should be up by 6/15/19
You have no idea how much your videos are appreciated.
Thanks for taking all the extra time to film and edit.
He excels at camera angles including ingenuity.
@ Cathy Blasco - Ditto.
Cathy/Psid, You both tritto
I weld and fabricate all the time on my machinery. I actually love how simple you work at projects, it has let me slow down and work simple. Great videos, thanks. Also many pointers on my excavator work, I have gotten better,
Hell yeah!
2 videos in one day! Appreciate the hard work!
You should stick to landscaping
$215 bucks rebuild for a job paid less than $500, you took a small hit on that. No matter, you save so much doing your own repairs, learning along the way, getting better and better every day. Your videos are fascinating and addictive!
Awesome video and great idea to make more of those guards!
Steering cylinder guards always look promising!!
You can easily edit these types of videos to make it seem like you got your shield design right on the first try but instead you show us step by step your trail and errors. Thats what makes your videos stand out from the rest. Feels genuine and we all take a ride on this engineering roller coaster. Awesome work!
Well said. Exactly my sentiments as well.
Continues to provide proof his generation isn’t totally lost. Pleasure to watch this young mans work ethic.
Happy birthday Levi 🎂 🍕 🦴/ thanks again Andrew
Never thought watching someone clean out a ditch would be interesting. But with the music, it was pretty good. Loved how you worked on the stump till it gave up.
"Ok now listen up people! Its as slow as it will go.....and besides, its a toy drill
press"! LOL.
Aren't ALL of his machines/tools toys? LOL
: ) : ) : )
very honest!:)
A clever fix for the cylinder. I love the sound of the old Ford tractor engines. It was so distinctive.
I like how you keep your land nice and clean. Great video!
Dude your ingenuity is out of this world. You never cease to impress me.
Good job with the guard, Andrew. I like how you put some grease in between the two metal plates, so they are somewhat protected when rubbing against each other. I think you also need to put something to shield the hydraulic cylinder, though. When the tractor turns Right, the angle iron rubs directly onto the body of the hydraulic cylinder - you can already see the line where it is starting to wear out. Ideally, putting some sacrificial plastic piece to shield the cylinder should fix the issue.
I think you did a excellent job on making that guard didn't like your first choice on the axle, was happy to see you thought of another idea. You have awesome ideas when you are fabricating, a couple things I would just like to mention cast iron can be welded very good by the right welter.
And it takes a professional welder to do this task, but myself I much like you
I am a backyard welder and I can weld Meg and arc not too good with Tig .
But there is something I want to mention to you not only you I have seen many many
people make this mistake they do not unhitched the battery when they are welding
you do shorten the life of the battery because you are so sending a positive
power right through the battery from the ground.
Just wanted to mention that body I really appreciate all your videos you are
very gifted man and I watching all your videos and I love them thank you,
so much for all of your education that you have gave me.
Good video and Happy Birthday to Levi!!!
🎂 🐕 !
Andrew - you work like an old soul, a much older man. I noticed right away the first time you doubled up wrenches for more leverage. What we did before pneumatic impact tools.
In case it is not addressed in this video, the tie rod connecting the two front wheels is severely bent. Doubtful that it can be straightened properly but the tractor will have steering problems until it is repaired.
For your skid plate, remember that the axle has a pivot point.
For a steering cylinder and linkage skid plate, begin out further in front of what you want to protect.
I have used Ford and NH tractors all of my life. I have had some damage caused by stumps and other issues. They seemed to never happen twice. I blamed user error.
Great engineering on the guard.
Great idea, love you clean your landscape so fire would be a minimal danger. Thank you for sharing your story, God bless you and your family
every time it goes lock to lock, it loosens the nut, you need a spacer bushing that the nut can tighten on but the guard can float on, trying to tighten it solid on a bolt that pivots will never work and will leave you stranded
I was watching a different video but when that notification pops up... instant click!
I could've spent a week doing this project and not figured out a way to make that work. As always... love your problem solving skills and your videos! Happy birthday Levi!
Great job and happy birthday to Levi, all the best, Steve in Thailand.
I'm getting spoiled Camarata....and that's a good thing. Another great video. I've said it before, you think "outside the box" and make things work, we need more of that in today's world. Good job.
Man i wish I had pictures of some of the tractors the YPG had retrofitted for mine clearing in Syria. Things where so cool, used parts off bombed out tanks. Even had a bulldozer that was remote controlled they they could run right down the road and just take down a building that had sniper hides in it.
Awesome! a new Camarata video!!!! Keep it up man! Also thank you very much for answering my questions about the storage container studs and ceiling.
Great video and content! Love your channel, it’s so fun to watch and I have learned a ton as well! Thanks for sharing your life with us all!! 😎👍
You are a fearless mechanic, absolutely fearless. Me doing this kind of shit - I would avoid it like the plague. It would take me 35 minutes just to find the stupid zip ties. True story...
I'm almost certain that there are full skid plate kits for that tractor..
It might be worth looking at them and making your own. They might be pricey.
Man I have been watch your vids over the last two weeks and you have got to be the craftiest RUclipsr I watch lol...🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽...
You find a problem rant and rave about it then find a solution good stuff I love it🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I'm watching old videos, even ones i have seen but never Clicked "Liked" Have now acknowledge your work ethic. The repair may be ugly but it works.. Nice one and well done AC
I really enjoy your vids bro very relaxing 30mins off freing the mind I like these kinds off job weldone awesome job bro👍🏼😁
Happy early birthday, Levi! Take good care of him in his old age. My Black Lab dog made it a few months past 13 years old when she died a few years back. Levi looks to be some kind of Lab.
Looked like the steering arm is bent, good fix on the cylinder.
Perfect example of trial and error,
Thanks for the upload mate from 🇦🇺
Yes, exactly, a bit of iterative design. (How's the snow?)
Don Challenger where are you from mate?
Ontario, nearby and slightly north of Toronto. Here most trees have gotten fully leafed out - summer coming on, it would be about the same for Andrew and Levi. You're getting into winter and I hear you are getting your snow this year.
Now we know what that equipment on the back of the tractor is for....love it
When are you going to do more work on your container castle love to see some updates on that. Great videos.
Thats what im thinking. There needs to be more work done on the castle.
Would be nice, but it's business first. Though I like the repair and maintenance episodes.
Ain't gonea lie I like it all 😁
I don't have the expertise, tools, and certainly not the patience and disposition that Andrew does, but I sure enjoy these videos.
Happy Birthday Levi!!
Happy Birthday to your puppy, a true friend we hope he continues many more safe years with you.😁🐶🐶
I recently discovered your videos and they are really great. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Two pieces of shop equipment I would suggest. An industrial drill press and a hydraulic hose repair machine.
Great video and HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEVI !!!!
YES Thank you for filming and Editing your videos. We appreciate your hard work on the job and Editing all your videos. Andrew we like your videos, and someone is going to have a Birthday. WOOF woof woof 13 Levi We hope you get a super Treat. CHEERS
The guard seems like it will work well. Happy 13th birthday Levi!
Happy Birthdayt... 2 videos today is like a present for us!!
This channel is a good as hanging around your neighbor who knows how to fix Everything!
MOrning Andrew. I'm just an old wrench turner and though it's an interesting fix I can see some issues.Rod end to steering linkage needs to be tight to avoid wear there:maybe some type of hinge set-up on the plate in that area would work. Looks like the shield is rubbing the cylinder barrel:another wear point.Add another fixed plate to protect the barrel maybe.
I've got 13 tractors:4 with loaders. Those I use for loading.Clearing I use a dozer or if light enough clearing a JD 350B tracked loader.Tractor loaders can be used in a pinch but they are fairly weak on their construction. Seen many over the decades that were pretty well destroyed by people using them for heavy clearing they weren't designed for:busted mounts, bent frames, busted frames, bent cylinder rods, bent or collapsed buckets....
"Alright. Let's go work on something else."
Man, you need a vacation! LOL
work is his passion
Looks like a simple fix! I wish it was that easy on some of our military equipment. I had to replace 8 hydraulic handles that operate our crane and it was one of the worst jobs I’ve done in a while. Hydraulic fluid was literally everywhere.
Levi is a good puppy. Happy birthday, Levi
levi is a dang goood boy.
Great idea on the cable ties to identify hoses. I've been doing the same for years. I buy the cheap colored assortments from HF which I use just for that purpose. Swapping hydraulic equipment from tractor to tractor make it a no brainer if they are color coded.
Innovation is the cure all to all problems... Good job...
Want to see how you finished the roof project. Saw you install prefab deck slabs. You did a nice job on the decorative door and was impressed how you adapted the hardware!
Really cool to see the process of engineering a guard. Thanks for sharing this.
thanks for the videos my car has a similar but less severe problem in which i think it leaks power steering fluid and thanks to your video the idea came to me so..tomorrow i'm going to check the drive cylinder to see if there is any damage and hopefully i don't have to buy power steering fluid again. 😎👍👍👍
Good job nice repair happy birthday Levi
Good trouble-shooting skills Andrew. If you had designed and mounted that guard pivot point to pivot point would it have simplified the geometry?
A bushing and washers might be a good idea where the bar rotates on that thread. It looks like something's going to wear-through there. Or did I miss it?
Your fixing videos are my fav
Firstly Happy Birthday to Levi, he looks to be lovely dog
Thank you Andrew for another fully engrossing video, you just proved with a little bit of thought, you can achieve almost anything. Sell the guard to Ford, why didn't their design team come up with something before.
And finally a word from Thumper to all the 'dislikers' of this video.
"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all
Happy Birthday Levi! When are we going to see you repair/modify something with your chair saw again? Still chuckling about the truck dash modification you preformed with such skill!!!!
Love your vids Andrew! You can weld on cast iron with your stick welding rig (SMAW). Just use Nickle 99 welding rods. (99% Nickle). Keep making these awesome videos! HAPPY Birthday Levi!
Why would anyone dislike hes videos he’s awesome Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 my friend
Haha, You are one entertaining guy. Keep up with the videos Andrew they are awesome.
Tractors just one step larger are usually more protected underneath than the 20hp range. I have an older Mitsubishi built Mahindra 28hp and everything underneath is at least 2" above the belly. Never bent a rod or smashed a filter and it's got around 1500 hrs on it.
Fab up 10 of those custom cylinder guards and throw them on E-Bay. Great video and repair as well. Thank you, Andrew. Happy 13th birthday to Levi!!!
Maybe change the nut on the ball joint end for the steering rod to a castle nut and put a cotter pin through there. I can see it working the nut loose over time and you wont notice until the ball joint breaks free. a good high wear bronze washer* between the guard and the ball joint will keep the steel from eating away the cast steel connection too.
Edit *- I thought on it for an hour, you should put in a bronze bushing with a washer top on it into the plate for the guard. The bushing will protect the threads, the washer the bottom of the ball joint. You can find them where you buy agriculture implements most likely, like a tractor supply or some such.
Love ❤️ Levi !
Persistence is the name of the game! Your the guy Andrew!
Everything grows but what you plant...lol...Another great video.
Andrew, this is the part where you break away and Levi fetches the 1/4 stick of dynamite and a cap. He told you the Ford wasn't heavy enough for this segment!
Great videos content is fantastic. I watch you work and always remember the old saying about mechanics and race car drivers. A good mechanic is never a good race car driver because he always has it in his mind about what the damage he makes ,takes to fix or repair, while a good driver pushes things until they win or break. It’s seems like excavator contractors must be on the race car driver mind set because every operator I’ve known push’s the equipment to the limit. 👍👍
12:54 Andrew literally has a concrete workbench but he's welding on the ground! That's funny right there
This reminds me of the conquering of the uneven three legged chair.
The Raptors kept me up late enough already. Guess I'll watch the long video over breakfast. Let's go Raptors!
Tip Andrew, plant trees in any month that has a R in it March, april, and so on, they will make it.
Is it just the camera angle or is the steering connecting rod also damaged and bent? Front wheels appear to be in alignment! Happy Birthday Levi.
Man, you’ve got all the toys, nice! I’d be a little worried about the bolt at the steering knuckle working loose because the guard rotates slightly. Could always use a longer bolt with 2 Nuts, one to hold the cylinder to the knuckle and the other to hold the guard. Leave the nut for the guard slightly loose with some locktite and should never have to worry about it again. Nice job nonetheless
I love the exhaust on that tractor It sounds great
Arent you rubbing the cylinder with the angle iron?
Better than slice of apple pie 😉
next time.. It's gonna happen. 3 inch pipe with cap on end, hole for rod welded to back of tie rod end then assemble the cylinder and re attach. the pipe will then move over the cylinder and protect the ram arm..
Did anyone notice the 6 inch gash the steel plate is making on the cylinder itself? i wonder how much that repair will cost.
I would suggest you add a small lip on the back side of the support brace to keep the angle iron from rubbing against the outside of the hydraulic cylinder when you turn to the right.
Take a piece of cheap plastic cutting board for a slide surface for that angle bracket
"Let's send this out, get this rebuilt." Something I never thought I would hear from you. Difficult order hydraulic parts on the internet, I know that from experience. Rebuilding the cylinders is not too bad but I have never had to deal with a bent ram.
Better then netflix.Much more absorbing and entertaining.
You even got the matching BLUE grease!!!
13 years old for Levi?
That's like 119 in dog years!!
Andrew it looks like the long angle iron will wear a hole thu the outside of the piston!!!!!!
Andrew is a legend, I wish I lived over there
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEVI!!!!
Great as always, Anddrew.
Hey Andrew. You might keep your eye out of a camelback drill press. They take up a lot of room, but they'd be good for the large holes you need to drill. 18 RPM will will give you just about all the torque you ever need.
You should put a bushing where the guard piece is on the end of the piston. You are slowly going to weather piston or guard. Nut will likely loosen at some point. Either way, very creative solution. Way better steering set up then my Deere 750...
Andrew's next job........Send drawing of modification to Ford's factory !!
132 college graduates disliked the video because they couldn't fathom how Andrew fabricated the protective cylinder guard without a 4 year degree.
andrew rolling out the content! any way you could go over some of the financial side of your business?
I just found his channel and was curious as to what/how much equipment he owns and if it's his own deal or a family thing or something?
@@dayindayout93 it's his equipment. You can find videos of him explaining how he got to where he is now and how he built his business. There are also lots of videos of him introducing new equipment.
So many people ask this question and I don't get how you think it's appropriate. How he prices, what he marks up and his profit margin are his business.
@@turbocat1984 I agree with you on this, it's his busniess plan. Thinks it good he tells the price on equipment he buys, than viewers see that this old iron is expensive.
@@turbocat1984 Asking about finances IS intrusive, IMO. It's nobody's business but Andrew's.
Good job Andrew well we finally found something that you’re not good at and that is gardening you should definitely stay away from planting Willow Trees and Sycamore Trees they looked really bad , they looked Ethiopia LOL 😆 Happy Birthday Levi 🎉🎂🎁🎈
Andrew first i really enjoy your channel i have been a subscriber for few years now i always most of my life was told not to do anything without giving it 100% be proud of ur work so now i just wonder where did that pride in your work go shit what happened to work ethics you my friend are one of a kind went back and watched that car video when u r like i can build a better car then explained and proved it they can all build better stuff so when is the car build gonna happen love to see that think lots of people would sorry for the novel keep up the good videos
Nice fabrication work, sir
