Lyrics:
"He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"
Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
I tried to drive all through the night,
The heat stroke ridden weather, the barren empty sights.
No oasis here to see, the sand is singing deathless words to me.
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.
As I adjust to my new sights the rarely tired lights will take me to new heights.
My hand is on the trigger I'm ready to ignite.
Tomorrow might not make it but everything's all right.
Mental fiction, follow me; show me what it's like to be set free.
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.
So sorry you're not here I've been chained too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be surprised when things aren't what they seem.
Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
These eyes won't see the same, after I flip today.
Sometimes I don't know why we'd rather live than die,
We look up towards the sky for answers to our lives.
We may get some solutions but most just pass us by,
Don't want your absolution cause I can't make it right.
I'll make a beast out of myself, gets rid of all the pain of being a man.
Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.
So sorry you're not here I've been sane too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be surprised when things aren't what they seem.
I've known it from the start all these good ideas will tear your brain apart.
Scared but you can follow me I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

Came back to listen back to their old stuffs after listening to their Life Is but a Dream album.
Really can't fathom how their music changes throughout the era, but they are still my number 1 band.
Hey I just did the same thing.
As people mature so do their perceptions, ideologies, etc.
If you listen to their lyrics they honestly have not switched up that much. They've experimented more, as they should, they're ARTists. Why not expand and explore? Life changes, people change, the universe changes, of course music will change with it. They aren't just changing their style; they're adapting to the change of times and maintaining their legend status and relevancy, and also expanding people's minds.
@@sunchild7181i could not agree more
Their music has mutated over the years much like @sunchild7181 mentioned. The energy and vibe of this album represents that points of their lives. Artists tend to ‘calm down’ when they mature losing that youthful irreverence. Same thing happened to Linkin Park, GNR, etc.
Rev was a huge driver for most of their work. When he passed, their music changed. Nothing wrong with admitting this as fact. Doesn't mean you can't love them the same now or more, it just is what it is
This is the most mid 2000s anything ever.

Blasting down the backroads, highbeams on, windows down, and not a care in the world. Literally the energy this song puts out for me.
This song makes me want to do the dash on the interstate 🤣
This album came out around the same time my addiction to pain meds was growing out of control. My first attempt after a year of daily abuse was my introduction to detox. Never before had I ever felt so depressed and sad. Every day I wanted to just die. I wasn't so much sick physically as I was reeling from the post acute withdrawals, the mental and emotional side. As devastated as I was by everything I heard bits and pieces of this song and saw the video. I was intrigued by how much talent I was hearing and the guitar solo seemed like it was making a comeback. This song will forever remind me of how it was a spark of joy amidst the hell I was in. I relapsed 2 months later and continued to for another 12 years before I embraced recovery and now have 3.5 years of sobriety. The nightmarish imagery in the Bat Country video is tame compared to the hell I saw in my dreams and the hell I lived while awake. Never the less, I love A7X.
Congrats on the recovery. I was in the same boat as you in the mid 2000s. Oxycontin 80s were my own personal hell. So glad to be away from that life. Looking back on it, it's a miracle that I'm still alive and healthy. Stay on the right track.
@@roosterj2599 damn! That's some crazy shit, can't believe he had a baggie under his skin. Back in the day I tried pretty much every drug that existed. Lsd, shrooms, every Pain pill, heroin, coke, meth, alot of benzos, a few barbs, pot, fent patches, random speeders, and probably some more that I can't think of right now. Not trying to glorify my drug use but just trying to get across how bad off I was. My worst moment was waking up in the hospital after an od. I overdosed on 80 mg methadone, 10 mg Xanax, and some other random pills that I took after I blacked out. Went to long term rehab a year after that. Partied like a rockstar basically, alot of ups and downs. Now I enjoy other things, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting (not hallucinogens lol), gardening, fireworks, trading cards, and most of all being with family. My bro has 3 kids so I get to be the fun uncle which I enjoy. Hope all continues to go well for you. Stay strong.

The rev with the fly swatter in the background is so funny
So no one is gonna talk about Matt smashing a bottle on Zacky's head at 03:29?

Under rated comment xD
🤣🤣🤣
Listened to this masterpiece for the first time when I was 16, 34 now and still freakin' love it
Avenged Sevenfold is what got me into guitar well over a decade ago. Forever grateful.
weird to see syn without his signature guitar
That means you're not a fan of them before 2006. either that or you don't watch A7X video City Of Evil era that much.
rob140892 lol I am a die hard fan of avenged sevenfold but in 2006 I was 4
that is his guitar its called synyster gates bat country custom
Randomthing1222 I'm a year older than you😂
Syn has multiple custom guitars. Only some of his guitars follow the same design. He has a few guitars, such as this one, that don't have pinstripes. Other examples are his German, American, and Confederate flag guitars.
when you realized the drum for this song is fucking insane... while your soul is on fire when you hear the intro...
Old A7X is freaking good....
well older but certainly not what they came out sounding like, their first 2 albums were screamo in which shadows refused to do anymore, great decision very awesome band from that point on
the turning point is the Self Titled Song... specially Seize the Day.
Dem drums doe....... I'm a guitarist and this makes me to throw my axes off a fiery cliff and pick up a kit.
Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, and Avenged Sevenfold, were all fantastic. Sounding Seventh Trumpet has some good songs, but overall is not a great album for me. Similarly Nightmare has a couple tracks I like (Welcome to the Family, So Far Away, and Tonight the World Dies are all great). On the whole though, the album just seems bad to me. Hail to the King is painful for me...far too bland.
Honestly, their 'older' stuff seems far more inspired, really pushing the genre and their image as a band, like they were trying to reinvent music. The last couple albums just seem like they're trying to ride their success as long as possible, while putting as little effort in as possible. Granted The Rev had a major influence on their style, but still....
My mom was listening to this today, and now I'm here! 😊
im 43, discovery this epic song yesterday at drumm youtuber channel and this song is a piece of art
_Wait...we can't stop here...this is bat country_

Definitely at their prime!
One of the top 5 guitarist ever in my opinion!
This is an amazing tribute to fear and loathing! Excellent story telling
this song might be the most fun to play on guitar, even without a backing track its super fun to jam to. absolutely love it
ikrrrr. i always fck it up around 2:48, i just cant get that rhythm down for some reason
I really like playing it on my bass I don't have it fully memorized but when I can play it it's fun
OMFG I HAVE SPENT YEARS LOOKING FOR THIS SONG!!! I JUST REMEMBERED IT AS A VIDEO I WATCHED ON VH1 OR MTV PLAYING ON MY TV WHILE I WAS GETTING READY TO GO TO MY HIGH SCHOOL. 3 years before I was born and im living in that time
That moment when your dad sits you down at 25 and tells you about the time Avenged Sevenfold shot a music video inside the strip club he was a bouncer at..... Newfound respect for the old man lol
Club was called the glitter gulch. Hole in the wall on Fremont street in Vegas lol
+rep
My dad went there a few times and said that he tried to talk to the bouncer I don't know if he was drunk or not tho.
That's awesome
Who hasn’t been to the ol’ glitiz
I brushed passed Satan himself that night in the hallway
The drums in this are so incredible. No words can describe the talent the Rev had and what he gave us! Rest in Peace to the legend.
