For me Tkachenko has luminous quality, something can be called "elan vitale", at the same time she understands melancholy. So her Diamonds had to be marvelous as you said. Wish her get back her best shape again.
Agree Tkachenko is a fabulous dancer, with strong overall technique and could probably do every classical principal role as well as Balanchine, if *only* she could get back into shape. She has lovely vivid, expressive face too. So much going for her ...
I saw Uliana Lopatkina's Diamonds in 90s in the UK (with Zelensky) and she certainly "got" it then and was the best Diamond I have ever seen, whether live or on DVD.
Yes, with her precision sharpness and great understnding of off balance Tereshkina is one great B dancer. Yes, I was really dissapointed by Lopatkina's allegro section. When I saw them both, I'd like to see the crazy mix video which showcases each one's strength like Vinogradov did in Ballet Imperial. But no one has Vinogradov-ism these days. sigh...
Though I'm a crazy fan of her, her adagio section was a bit square. Her diamonds are not crazily amazing as her Ballet Imperial or that flawless TPDD. But it's her, she improves everytime. So... YEEEES!
I don't know why I didn't receive this comment - only saw it because I went back to look at this video! The Lopatkina performance I saw live was better than the Marinsky DVD, good though that was. Of course, Lopatkina exemplifies her Vaganova schooling and is more Petipa than Balanchine. Much is down to personal taste, and I prefer Mariinsky and Lopatkina to POB and Letestu. Somova/Kondaurova are wonderful also in Rubies.
Yes, Lopatkina is very Petipa and was the best part of Mariinsky dvd. Rest was just a product of dellusional mind. If they could replace those cast mates with Novikova/Selina in Emeralds Kondaurova Vishneva in Rubies, that would be far better. Even in here I'm most attracted here is a supposed to be Mariinsky ballerina, Olga Smirnova.
Я люблю его! Балет для меня одним из величайших вещей в этом мире!
i have been on the premier of this ballet. this was great
Agree! Without her Cinderela and Shurale never can be the same! Genia come back!!!!
Thank you for informing this vid to me. Sadly they never brought Ballanchine here in Japan. sigh....
The glimpse of Genia in Emeralds is so tantalizing - I wish she could have danced this role with the Mariinsky.
Здорово!!!
very nice video, thanks a lot for sharing, publishing it !!!!!!!!!
замечательный балет. Была на премьере. Чудесно просто.
Thank you so much for this! I especially loved the closer look at the costumes! Do you have any more???

Vishnva was the Rubies lead girl when I saw this, along with Dumchenko - and agree she is superb.
I remember the video of her rehearsing Aurora also - she could be wonderful Aurora.
She could be wonderful in many roles. But sadly the last memorable time of her was a bar lady in the Houligan.

Osmolkina/Selina are a great pair! But does Tkachenko go back into her shape?
