      oh it’s coming! Pretty excited myself! I already like the assist level changers on the bars and the easier wheel changing, but this AI learning concept is crazy. It’s suggested it could recognise the rider from the way they ride and adjust accordingly. I’m used to sci-fi being in space, not on a bike. I need to see if it’s real. Then let you know.

    Just went to their web site and they are certainly beautiful bikes. I originally wanted an Orbea, even went to a dealer in Tucson to order an M30. They told me that Orbea deliveries to the USA are not good. They had only received 6 new bikes last year, all MTBs. He told me if I wanted the M30 or even the D30 I would have to expect a 9 month wait. I then found my LOOK e765 and have been pleased with it.

I have set the assist levels at 70, 140 and 200 watts. I am able to do sustained climbs like the climb (3200 feet in 13 miles) up Mt. Diablo using the 140 watt assist for most of the climb. This is definitely my next bike, I’ve been looking at the Gains for some time now. I don’t need n+1 yet but I might crack before the end of the year.
    Great video, more temped now that I was a few minutes ago.
    By the way, torque isn’t the same as power. Power is torque x cadence (rpm). It will mean that at low speed, e.g. pulling away it will seem less powerful and also going up a hill too.
    Given e-bikes are limited in top speed (for assist) then it will result in less power assuming other variable don’t kick in first.
    Oh and yes, of course they should loan you one, I’m looking forward to the report.

    I bought a Orbea Gain M30 Flat Bar Custom direct from Orbea in April 2021, for £4168, the best bike I have ever had, but this year in June the battery failed, I wrote to Orbea about this, and got a short letter back saying, its nothing to do with them, its down to Mahle, the electric part of the bike, now after 4 months and minus £640 the bike is back in use, I hope that I don’t have to do this every 3 years (Paul Bragg)

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain  Месяц назад +1

      I’ve become a bit of a fervent follower of ebike systems reliability Paul, so what you’ve experienced is not at all rare, I am afraid to report. The Mahle battery warranty at 2 years is pretty much an industry standard, too. There is definitely a question about Orbea and Mahle passing the buck back and forth when a Mahle component goes wrong, but lithium batteries are not particularly robust, as it only takes 1 small £4 cell from the 20 to go wrong and the entire battery is a write off, officially. Other systems are no better, in fact many are far worse.
      I am sorry to tell you that it may have been possible, depending on the battery fault, to have had your ‘21 repaired/re-celled by some e-bike specialists. A very few have managed to work around some of the proprietary safeguards (that are in place to ensure you can only buy a new Mahle unit - oh, sorry, I mean to ensure your safety, ahem) to provide a cheaper alternative. For the future, all I can recommend is that you use the bike as much as possible. The recommendations for battery charging, use and storage are also useful, but I have never followed them, just used the bike most days, recharging to full unless I know for certain that I won’t be using it the next day. My Gain is now 6 years old, 17,000kms, with a very healthy battery even now, and there are very many others with older bikes and higher mileages that can report the same. Good luck with yours!

    Great stuff, hope they lend you a bike. I did the same thing, rode my Gain back from the shop. OK it was only 22 miles but that was double my longest ride at the time so it felt like an epic adventure to me lol!
    I love look of the thing and the assist buttons on the bars, don't like the fact they've not included mudguard lugs again, and I'm not sure about this claim of 55nm. Seems a little disingenuous to me, changing the goalposts. But I guess the proof of the pudding is in the pedalling.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain  Год назад +1

      That ride WAS epic Dadam! How are you finding it now? I know what you mean about the torque specs, but I’m going to ask about whether the X35 figures are also mid-mount equivalents. If so, I think it’s fair enough, though it’s not what any of us buying the X35 unit thought at the time. Re mudguards, there are now excellent, stable mudguards that don’t need the lugs - the SKS Raceblades seem very popular for full-sized ‘guards…

      @@yakoridesagain I know right! :) I'm loving the bike and looking forward to some more even longer rides when the weather gets better. This looks interesting and I agree about the advertising. Just who do they think buys these bikes? I know the riders look good, but I suepect that their buyers are not in their 30's and look like pro riders. Surely someone in the late 50's or 60's would be a good bet? Absolutely they should lend you a new Gain to bikepack. You would be able to show the value of the bike and test it properly. Even better, they would send a crew to video it so they could make the quality amazing. Congratulations on being chosen for this - you deserve it.

Lol I’d love all the kit to make gorgeous vids, and I’d love a support team to bring me espresso’s hourly if THEY were shooting! But seriously, yes. I love my bike, and I hope I’m not risking my factory visit, but Orbea needed to have older and chubbier faces of joy in their vid. We buyers are wiser than that…we need old, grizzled fit as flea riders to show us who we want to be riding our Gains, not kids.

      @@yakoridesagain Thanks for the reply. I prefer 1x systems with XD drivers to maximize the range on the cassette. Unfortunately, the X35 hub doesn't do XD drivers as far as I can tell. Seems like the 1x options are either limited in range or have limited tire clearance.
      I will probably go for gear range over tire clearance. The climbs in our area are relatively short but most of them have sections of 15%. So climbing is a bit closer to mountain biking than road riding. You can't just grind out a climb without hitting a step, gut-punching section.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain  Год назад

      I understand the attraction of 1x, but for me, I’m used to 2x and the range it provides. A guy I know has just fitted an 11-40 to his D30 2x 34/50. Now that is a go anywhere range!

      Orbea Gain D40 / 3.399 €

      I’m your man Leon. I’m pretty intrigued myself. It does seem as though Orbea have worked with Mahle to do something different with this system, but, the proof is in the riding. I’ll be reporting back.

      That’s what’s nice about the new Gain - I take a leisurely café stop (I will, promise), maybe an Americano and some polverones - and the smart charger whacks 80% back in the batteries! I’ll need it, País Vasco is…bumpy.

    So, “The many faces of Joy” motto kind of sucks! There are no people of color! I also was sent an email about trying out the new bike but then it was... taken away. Very strange. They went w two white guys instead. Lol. I know that you will do a fantastic job w reviewing the bike cause that’s who you are. I look forward to hearing your thoughts! I am bummed that I didn’t get an opportunity to be selected to review the bike. I hope, that in the future, they realized that people of color also ride bikes.

      I didn’t want to risk my visit…but I will. YES! Absolutey! You were removed because you were from America, I think, therefore too far away/expensive for the accountants to bring over… but that Many faces of joy? all kids, all white., all fit…but who buys it an e road bike? I wanted older faces, chubbier faces, faces lined with pain, trying to get back to a fitness they have lost through illness! THAT’S who is buying an Orbea Gain. In my opinion.

    Méfiez vous!! Vous passez commande d’un Gain M20i et vous vous retrouvez avec un Gain M30 I relooké avec une paire de roues bas de gamme qui pèsent une tonne. Résultat : au lieu de 11kg annoncé votre vélo pèse 13,1 kg.
    Merci Orbea. A fuir absolument.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain  8 месяцев назад

      I assume you have contacted Orbea to tell them of the issue? The M30i comes with 105 Di2 and aluminium wheels; the M20i has Ultegra Di2 and carbon wheels. Quite different, and quite different prices too. Neither is advertised as 11kg, the lightest is the M10i at 11.4kg.
      I will certainly be comparing the weight of the Gain Orbea are shortly to be sending me and will include the results in a video.

      Je ne vais pas abuser de votre patience avec des détails.
      J’ai commandé en septembre 2023 un Gain M20 i de couleur blanche que je n’ai jamais vu.
      Fin mars 2024, je me retrouve avec un vélo qui n’est pas au catalogue d’Orbea et que je qualifierais de M 25 i et qui pèse 13,1 Kg ( quand même loin de vos 11,4 Kg)
      Orbea 1 fois mais pas 2.

      @@yakoridesagainUniquement pour vous tenir au courant des pratiques d’Orbea.
      Pour rappel j’ai commandé et acheté un M20 . Finalement Orbea m’a livré un M30 de 2022 et a été enregistré comme tel( quid de la garantie)
      Ce vélo a été relooké avec du Shimano Ultegra mais est toujours équipé de roues Alu. Oubliés roues et cintre en carbone.
      Aucune réaction d’Orbea.
      Je crois que je suis pas au bout de mes surprsies. Lors de ma première sortie, le support compteur est tombé dans ma roue avant.
      Bien à vous

      Sadly the front light mount is a known weak spot, which will be replaced under warranty. If you have the ‘22 M20, it would be fitted with the X35i motor…
      Might I recommend two things. 1. You write directly to the CEO of Orbea, if you bought directly from them. If you bought from a bike shop, they may have swapped the wheels to discount the price and obtain a sale. You will need to enquire.
      2. Join either or both Facebook groups: “Orbea Gain and All Mahle based Ebikes” and “Mahle x20 Powered Bikes”. Both have plenty of knowledgeable owners who may also have advice for you.
