I'm a BBC Micro guy but you are sorely tempting me over to the 2600 with your great videos.....I am very tempted to make a 2600 game but I've not coded in 6502 before. It's one of my bucket list things to do. I am starting to get my head around it a bit now. I love the quirks and look of the 2600. Those beautiful rainbow copper effects and that weird and very digital/glitchy sound chip...it is still cool all these years later eh!
That's awesome, I say jump right in and give it a try! 6502 assembly isn't too hard, it's all very logical when you get the hang of it. Hopefully my videos can help you out along your path!
Yes! New episode! I've watched all of these ever since I finished an Udemy course taught by Gustavo Pezzi. Keep them coming! I'm determined to make a game even though I have zero experience and the only programming language I know is 6502 assembly thanks to that course. I'm an old dog learning new tricks. Thanks!
Technically you don't need to STA ghost_frame as you're ignoring the upper 4 bits with AND every time you enter the loop. Or INC g_f and then LDA#$08 BIT g_f to test bit 4 in situ.
Welcome to season TWO of 8Blit! Let me know what you think of this video, and what you'd like covered in the future. There's plenty more coming this year so make sure you're subscribed!
What's the book behind the Stella Programming Guide? I see Racing the Beam, Stella Programming Guide, and the Steven Hugg Making Atari 2600 games. I have all of those, just curious about what the fourth book is!
Cool you used Demon Attack for the intro DA on the 2600 was a breakthrough for its time- the smooth animation of the aliens and their side to side/up/down motion were never seen before on the 2600 when it was released Also, how they achieved such seemingly "high" resolution for the alien characters was an achievement. They appeared to be much higher res/finer pixels than previously seen on the 2600, as if finer than the 2600 hardware would allow, while also rendered multicolored, vs the SPace INvaders cart's monochrome, but still finely detailed, aliens

Dude best video series for atari assembly in the whole youtube, season 2 rocks
Thanks, glad you like it. Plenty more in the works!
Programming this things during the 80’ looks like a lot of work. I don’t know what I would do without my loops :(.
Great video. Liked and subscribed!!
For sure, we're lucky to have so many tool at our disposal these days! Thanks for your support!

Awesome, Thanks! I'll check that out and update it when I've got a bit of time. Working hard on the next episode now!

@@matthewlister3755 sharp eyes! That's a print version of Atari 2600 Programming for Newbies by Andrew Davie
Cool you used Demon Attack for the intro
DA on the 2600 was a breakthrough for its time- the smooth animation of the aliens and their side to side/up/down motion were never seen before on the 2600 when it was released

They appeared to be much higher res/finer pixels than previously seen on the 2600, as if finer than the 2600 hardware would allow, while also rendered multicolored, vs the SPace INvaders cart's monochrome, but still finely detailed, aliens
I love Demon Attack! They some how made the aliens move almost organically, it's very cool.
I like the TV atheistic
Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it!
I really appreciate the amount of work you put into the videos! Excellent job, please keep it on!
Thanks Bruno, I try to improve on the videos each episode, I'm glad you like it! I've got many more in the works too!
8 blit...i don't think I ever owned an 8 bit system with a blitter. 🤣
haha, I whittled the definition down to 'move bits around' in order to justify the name 😄
