James Horner's music in Apocalypto gives me the chills. He may be gone but his music in every movie he has worked with like Titanic and the first Avatar movie will never be forgotten. ❤
I'm not mayan, I'm not even spanish. But for some reason I can't help being sucked into this masterpiece. Really captures the feeling of a culture so alien to us now.
@@johnprice9072 I don't think it's so alien to us and...take the human sacrificies...they reminds me of the human sacrificies that Wall Street willingly does at determined periods.
Facts!! I still listen to it and it’s 2023 🤙🏼 but my parents told me that I have either Mayan or Aztec blood in me because of my ancestors. my great grandparents spoke like a tribe language that I didn’t understand from what my dad told me, although It was cool to know.
1:04 love how one quena sounds with vibrato, like its in fear, and then the second one answers really calm and sweet, it reminds me of jaguars paw and his father, and how before he died, he told him to not have fear, and he say it very calmly, even tho he knew he was going to die, this part sounds exactly when jaguars paw is about to be sacrified too, so it makes more sense that desicion in the track, truly a masterpiece of soundtrack
With this score Horner made him one of best composers ever. Amazing atmosphere... I am sure that Mel Gibson know that without this music movie would not be what it is. And it is one of best movies ever.
One of my favorite movies I know the movie from my youth I like Maya's style of music When I listen to music I remember parts of the movie are in my mind 💚 🎶 👍
Oollack (Almost) ...Love the tune ... love the Movie... Thanks for Braveheart and Apocalypto Both Mel Gibson for your Vision, Talent and Excellence and the one and only James Horner RIP
I believe it is a Quena tuned in Sol(G) fitting since it is a South American instrument, Horner also used Zamponas, also a South American instrument ranging from "Basto"(Base) to "Chuli"(high octave) throughout his compositions.
"My name is jaguar paw, son of Flint sky,my father hunted these forests before me, my name is jaguars paw, I'm a hunter, this is my forest.,my sons will hunt it with their sons after I'm gone, come on, come on"
It's the pose that he offers, just by slightly looking back and leaving it all so what behind, and no it's not ''jaguar'' but he is actually a jaguar warrior from the invading clan or tribe...
leo silva. Yes the Aztecs were the ones to preform human sacrifices. The maya also preformed sacrifices, but not on a scale as shown in the movie. The maya practised blood shedding much more frequently, such as cutting ones self and dripping blood over alters. I personally loved the movie very much, although the director misrepresent the maya. A very good example of the mix up between the maya and aztec is seen at the end of the movie. The mayan civilisation existed hundreds of years before the Aztecs. When the spanish landed in mexico in 1519, most of the maya have mysteriously disappeared. Only a few remained. When Cortez landed in mexico, the aztecs were at the peek of their civilisation, dominating the majority of central and part of southern mexico. I hope this explanation helps. Many people confuse one for another and mix and match their many similarity and differences.

Does anyone know of any vocal style singing similar to this? It's hauntingly beautiful.
I think it is called Throat singing.
Lol nothing's similar, that's why it's unique
The american natives have a Very similar way of singing, I recommend Jorge Reyes was a musician dedicated to the recreation of pre-Hispanic music.

Yes, they are. This is on Yucatan Peninsula.
Yes but the Mayans in this movie are MISREPRESENTED as Aztecs.

The difference between the Mayans and the rest the world we know were are roots come from. Mother earth
