I wanted to tell you that this video changed me, I found it by accident and it made me realize that I wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle and live these adventures. 6 months after you posted it I got my license and a bit later bought my own bike. Every now and then I revisit this video and it doesn't get old...
this is singularly the one video that has me smiling from ear to ear and truly decide "I WILL DO THIS!!!" Thank you, for helping me make up my mind just thank you
I think there should be a 'Love' button for your videos, a 'like' does not simply do it justice. Your attitude is awesome and love what you're doing! Ride safe bud.
A masterpiece! Don't know how long it took you to edit this one but bloody hell, I want to leave tomorrow and be there!! Great job, music, images, footage... all came together to make this a fabulous viewing experience. Keep up the good work.
Wow Pedro just bloody WOW! That's one of, if not the best I've seen. It had everything, staggering views, incredible camping spots, you and Alp having the time of your lives. Oh and Alp got tired and lay down; mine does that too ;-) Ride safe.
Damn son that is awesome! Still got 20K worth of Oz footage to get to. Hobo tent life, campfire bliss with not a soul around. Hard work at times. Looking back I wish I'd traveled lighter, that the bike was in better condition and that I planned more offroad. Regardless still a great ride. Have an absolute blast mate and watch out for those bloody Emu's, they're not right in the head. And remember that bore water can only give you the shits once, after that it's as good as spring water. What's your ride?
‘Bore water can only mess with you once’ 😂 that’s hilarious - I bought a BMW (yes I know) 1200GSA because that’s what I ‘thought’ I wanted. I wish I bought lighter and cheaper but hey, I got it now. I’m 35 year old tradie from Perth and have planned this for like 5 years man - such a commitment to drop everything and run! Daydreaming of the campfires and tent-life. I think there’s no other way to do it ay - and plenty of offroad. The tropical north Queensland is where it’s at! Look forward to seeing your next episode man - again, you’re a legend
@@kickenplaysfps2224 Sounds awesome mate, how did you go? I want to do the same. Maybe a KTM 1090/1290 but not sure. Going to plan and save for the next 5 years. Lots I want to do in between.
My dear friend, I admire your determination to carry on in your journey, in the last part of the video the effort made was evident... What an incredible views, beautiful landscapes!!! One of your best videos ever!!!
Gracias amigo! It was a good effort. At the homestay in Karakul they had to pick me up off the floor and put me in front of a table to eat and drink something.
WOW!! just WOW!! What a place. To experience that must have been the reason to do the ride in first place. Sounds and looks like it lived up to your expectations.
One of the best video series i have seen the last 3 years Pedro. Great shoots, great stories, amazing adventure...and we cant wait to ride this way to.. Incredible inspirational indeed. From Norway 🇳🇴
Pamir Highway the ultimate goal. What an amazing place ;) Thanks for sharing Pedro. This summer i begin with Turkey........if we are allowed to do something !

Nice ride, Pedro! Personally, I dont know how you managed with the fuel in those wild and lonely mountains, but every single leg was definitely a challenge to be remembered forever! Just great!
Incrível Pedro ! You are definitely one of the crazies! Que haja sempre caminhos por alcatrar ... Gostava de sabêr como estas experiências influenciaram a tua perspectiva do mundo .
Try to fill up full before traveling the remote section. Bring spare fuel along, stop in small villages and ask locals for a fill up or spare fuel. In case of an emergency a local might be kind enough to syphon some from a car. To save fuel: stay in the highest gear possible if the environment/speed allows it, once in highest gear keep the speed low but high enough to avoid 'clunking' the gears. Be easy on the throttle though the tougher the off-road, the harder that becomes. Of course beforehand it is essential to have a good idea of the distance you're going to travel remotely so you have an idea which of the aforementioned you have to apply. In Mongolia/Central Asia you might stumble on random tiny village/yurt, or maybe a car or two along the way (try to bring a hose long enough to syphon fuel from a car with). In Australia 400km of nothing usually means 400km of nothing and depending on where you are not a car in sight (mostly diesels anyway in that sort of environment). One long gravel road out there it did mostly in highest gear but at about 80km/h, right from the start because my fuel calculation was tight. Though for some seriously corrugated stints I had to speed up to 110km/h, also made a small detour to camp which I hadn't calculated beforehand. Ran out of fuel 5/10km's before the fuel station. Pretty much the same goes for water, can't have enough of that.
Hi Pedro, we are looking at the Pamir Highway if we have enough time. Do I understand correctly that you did Dushbane, Bartang valley, then North to Osh? Because you also mention Wakhan valley which is more south. We will be with a 4x4 and also leave from Amsterdam. You did it in 3 or 4 days? Thanks for the video!
Hi Roland. From Dushanbe on to the M41 heading east. Shortly after Rushon left in to the Barting Valley riding north east. Back on the M41 to Karakul and turn around and ride south on the M41 to Khoroch and turn left there into the Wakhan Valley. Ride east until Khargush and then north back to the M41. You might be able to keep going east almost all the way to China though, if you can and they let you. Back on the M41 ride north to Karakul and then Kyrgyz. Btw on the Bartang there is a road to a village and from there you can hike to lake Sarez but you can only go there if it's on your permit. If you're interested in doing that you have to sort that out when getting your permit. Bartang Valley three days, and then Pamir Highway - Wakhan loop another four. Go longer man, it is out of this world, especially Bartang. Try not to do that first though like I did! Also with roads like the Bartang there is always the chance that you can't make it through all the way for whatever reason. Check out bing maps and see all the roads in the region, also the harder to access ones. There is a lot more to explore out there than what I did so take it all in and take your time. Cheers, goede reis!
Pedro Mota dankje! I thought about the Bartang valley as a rewarding shortcut since we do have to choose. Have to be in time for good weather in Mongolia, we are also heading for Japan. We did Amsterdam- Nepal years ago, up to 250km distance from M41 when we were in mountains of Pakistan. Are you back home in Amsterdam or still on the road?
I get it, in the end we're always on some sort of schedule. I'm stationary here in Chile South America at the moment. Will be back on the road at some point. How are you getting to Japan? Transport or is the ferry from Sakhalin operational again?
Amazing video!! I also want to the Pamir and I assume you recommend me to do the Bartang Valley, but how many days did you need from the entry point of Bartang Valley to the end at Karakul Lake?
If that is important to you worth considering though once you get to the river it's a mix of tarmac and gravel in similar conditions. Also the views by the river don't vary too much but the early M41 through the mountains goes through some really nice scenery.
So probably August is the best time.. I watched other videos, guys came from eastern end and they were saying that it was flooded alot more in afternoon than morning.. makes sense, snow melt. They were on dual sports It's very brave of you to go there solo on heavier bike.. do you have Spot or equivalent? good luck!
Yeah, should be perfect but as you can see the water crossings weren't bad. Yeah man, met a Polish guy on the way out of Tajikistan during dusk on a Africa Twin. He was paranoid about the river and asked where I crossed which was way further down and wider. He just came from Kyrgyz where he crossed a river in the later afternoon which was flowing pretty hard. Rear end got stuck and his chain dropped. Bit of a nightmare, had to be pulled out by workers who happened to be doing road work there. He was looking at the river that I'd just crossed and thought not again ha.
I can totally understand his point It's more about altitude; you don't realize until you need to do something physical. You had hard time picking up bike on flat spot imagine dealing with this in the middle of river.
Yeah absolutely. That pickup effort was before breakfast too. It's something else up there. I'm betting on Peru, Bolivia and Atacama to relive that experience once I'm good to go again.
Beautiful video. How much video recording were you doing per day. Did you have the camera recording the whole time or only on bits of the road. Then how did you manage battery and power ?? What are you using ? Go Pro ?
Working on a video where I talk a bit about that. I shoot in bursts mostly: 95% of the time no point in shooting more than 10sec. Back then this was the most I'd ever shot which needs no explanation. I'd say at least a couple of shots every hour and I actually forced myself to shoot less. Charged the cameras through the 12v connector on the motorcycle while riding. Charged the laptop once in a tiny village at a house with a solar panel. GoPro 3+ black and a basic point and shoot 720p camera.
Pedro Mota great. Thank. Honestly I never been a fan of Go Pro. Never had one and everyone I know who has one had issues getting then to be reliable. Ive had a Replay XD which was great. Until the battery died after a couple year . Currently using. Sena Prism which i think overall is very good but battery life sucks and is not an easy camera to keep wired while in use. Look forward to your video on this topic

First time watching your vids. Simply stunning. One question thou... how did you get gas for your bike?
Stop in villages and ask. In Mongolia I once stopped a car and asked if I could syphon some fuel.

Amazing video!! I also want to the Pamir and I assume you recommend me to do the Bartang Valley, but how many days did you need from the entry point of Bartang Valley to the end at Karakul Lake?
It's about 300km, 330km or so to Karakul. You can do it in a day, it spent two nights there. Absolutely
How did you go from Dushanbe to Khorog? Did you go through South via Kulab or the M41 via Obigarm?
East on the M41 which in itself before getting to the river border was a beautiful ride.
I hear people saying going via Kulab is better in term of road conditions
If that is important to you worth considering though once you get to the river it's a mix of tarmac and gravel in similar conditions. Also the views by the river don't vary too much but the early M41 through the mountains goes through some really nice scenery.
