It has an area of ​​318.7 km² and a population of 34,462 inhabitants ( INE 2023) 1​ which are distributed between the center of Mazarrón, where approximately 13,000 inhabitants live, and Puerto de Mazarrón with 11,000. The rest is distributed between its different districts. The urban center of Mazarrón is located 55 meters above sea level and is 72 km from the capital of the Region, Murcia .
