It's easy to see, especially when they steal your kills with a double missile attack. They could even hold their own against the Yellow Squadron over Farbanti, provided they lived long enough through that. Seems that Comona was a turning point for friendly fighters to actually hit something.

2:23 to 2:33 Perfect scene for this specific part of the soundtrack. Viper's conversation could easily be imagined as the Yellow asking for his wingman's help, only to be a split second too late from Mobius 1's missiles.
When you master the hardware, master the visuals, master the gameplay, absolutely perfect the music & voice acting - you damn right mastered the experience.
I'll never get over a Yellow, the most feared enemy in the sky, running for dear life because I tickled him with my machine gun. You've got a Yellow? I've got a Ribbon.
I headcanon that it's a foreshadowing of the Yellow Squadron's future troubles with maintenance and supplies, since they were being increasingly overworked by Erusean high command. That is, the Yellows were rushed to this op by Erusean high command with half-empty fuel tanks and only minimal maintenance, confident that they can wipe out ISAF anyway, only for them to meet fierce resistance. And the one Yellow that you managed to damage was suffering from a brief mechanical problem that left him vulnerable for long enough. Having that happen drove Yellow 13 to order a retreat, partly because they were running low on fuel anyway, and partly because he knew having even one of them being shot down - even if there were extenuating circumstances - would be a major blow to Erusean morale.
There's just something about this guitar that works so well, its like a scene out of a movie, especially when you play it on ace difficulty. You hear your allies being shot down by yellows over the radio, the missle alert is going off, meaning you could be seconds away from being shot down, and all the while you see more formations closing in fast. All the while, the guitar is ripping away pushing you through it, such a perfect level.
One time I would have been mid-aired by a friendly F-16. I had to double-check the replay because it was so fast. He went right through my windscreen from below me. Fortunately, midair collisions between *fighter-sized* aircraft in *campaign* are disabled in AC04.

The song is one of the best in the series, but it playing behind radio chatter, radar lock and missile warnings is the best way to listen to it. Here's hoping we can get a AC4 mod for AC7
I'd like to see you record this mission once more in perfect way: 1. sorry, trashed four XMAR AGMs at the very beginning; 2. SR-71 secret plane at flight level ~40,000ft didn't shown at all. Anyway, most of your AC5 gameplays are exceptional, really like them. thanks for your great work.
I loved AC4. More than AC5. Just the simple game made you feel like a pilot. Ac5 was like a great story loved it. But this game was just beautifully done such a good game. A remaster would be insane.
Add a refueler, and E-767 and many many fighters. You can also count an SR-71. Enough to make the US DoD and logistics personnel scream at the top of their lungs.
I really suck at this mission. Been stuck on it for 2 weeks and I spend most of it trying to get a plane locked in target without them zooming past me when i fire
Maybe someone with more military/war history/strategy can explain this to me. Why is every single enemy fighter in this mission only carrying AA weapons? A single plane with bombs would have shut down this whole mission. Or, you know, vulcan cannons. Or some unguided missiles. Or crashing a plane. I get it, its a game and the setup makes for one of the coolest levels in video game history, just wondering.
Bombers do come in midway and you have to intercept them. Why can't the enemy fighters use their own missiles to shut down Comona? Who knows... maybe the rocket they're launching is made out of 25 inch thick titanium.
One of the missions in Ace Combat 2 takes place on the Comona Islands and you blow up a Space Shuttle in that mission. I'm willing to bet that the launch pad has been massively reinforced since then so that only heavy bombers would be able to carry bombs big enough to crack it.
