This show saved my life as a kid. My parents would abandon me all the time and this show filled the emptiness of the home, it made my loneliness less noticeable. I'm crying as I type this because, this wasn't just a show... This was my escape, this was my survival kit, and it was what defined my childhood.
I am pursuing the film and television industry thanks to this show and its inspiring messages. I want to help others the way your show has helped me.
Thank you for bringing such a beautiful cartoon into this world. I'm almost 30, and I frequently rewatch this. I'm saddened when Teletoon Retro was taken. You don't see many good cartoons like this anymore. So hard to come by.

This is absolutely phenomenal. I have been DREAMING for years to see The Raccoons get a full remaster. This entire restoration is like a love letter to one of, if not THE very best Canadian animated series ever released. Guess I have no choice but to relive this show in HD now... Good thing I have Crave... Nelvana’s early work was U N R I V A L E D . Our animation industry once LEAD the game and now it’s sucked for over 30 years…
In the UK when i was 5/6 years old (1990) i watched it on BBC1 😊 I really loved this cartoon!

I agree with some other comments... this show saved my life from a crazy, unhealthy and violent environment at home. It lifted my spirit and allowed me a few smiles everyday. Thank you for this. I was waiting for the remaster of this show all my life. I am happy now to be able to share with my own family: wife and kids. God bless Canada!!!
I'd pay a lot to see all these again on blu-ray, this was my favourite cartoon as a kid, I loved it so much.
They redid Duck Tales a little bit ago and I was quite impressed with that.
I would love to see The Raccoons be given a similar treatment.
The WEB versions are pretty sweet to be fair but I agree, a bluray would be amazing :)
I got into the series when it began airing on Boomerang in 2006. I was super annoyed when it stopped, especially when it came back in 2007 only to disappear again permanently. I had to watch the episodes I missed including the specials on RUclips in 2008. I hope the remaster comes to DVD in the UK soon! I’m dying to get it.
In the RUSSIA when i was 7-10 years old i watched it on TV before walking to school. I agree with some other comments, this show saved my life from a crazy, unhealthy and violent society. God bless you Canada

Outstanding! I'm an American and I loved this show as a kid. I discovered reruns playing on a CBC channel when I was in college and found I still loved it. Great animation and a soundtrack I adore. I hope it starts streaming outside of Canada. A show this great cannot be limited to one country.

seems like they have unfortunately zoomed/cropped it to 16:9 ? That was also an issue with the first seasons of The Simpsons.

Very nice job on the remaster! I remember watching this on channel 9 (London/Windsor) out of Detroit in the 1980s. We didn't have cable TV and were able to pick up quite a few of the Canadian stations over an outdoor antenna.

I always knew I hated the rich and pigs from an early age. _The Raccoons_ was so based.
I enjoyed watching this show growing up in rural BC. Had no idea Cedric wore a Mike Bossy hockey sweater in some episodes.
I never knew it was Canadian, but I'm not surprised. Quality work, Canada! Such a great cartoon, so many good memories from childhood. Almost anime-esque in its storylines where you actually cared about the characters and there was a range of emotions, including sadness, great friendship, adventure and so on.

Carl Banas is 94 and still going strong! He voices Schaeffer on this show. He did a lot of work with Arthur Rankin Jr and Jules Bass starting in their "Videocraft" days. I liked his W.C. Fields style delivery as the Wizard in "Tales of the Wizard of Oz" back in 1961.
Carl, Bob, and Susan are still with us from the original cast.

Yeah... I really want a HD version of The Racoons, and to be able to own seasons 3-5, as only seasons 1&2 came out on DVD over here, but I'll only buy it if it's in the proper 4:3 aspect ratio. Cropping it like in the video here looks a mess.
I imported the Blu-Ray of Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers even though I subscribe to Disney+, because D+ only has a cropped 16:9 version, but the Blu-Ray is proper 4:3. Will be incredibly disapointing if they've put all the effort into remastering The Raccoons and we only get this cropped 16:9 version. I really thought (hoped) we'd moved past the point of people demanding their screens get filled and old shows getting treated this way as a result.

I watched this when I was a kid. I was murdered twice and beaten up by a nun who thought I stole her purse even though I wasn't carrying anything. However, this song always made me feel like today was the day I wasn't gonna get my ass kicked by my sister's father-in-law....good times

It was actually, from 2007 until 2009. The episodes that are up are from Teletoon Retro airings.

Nicely remastered! Love to re-watch this show in HD. I know the episodes are available now in SD but I'd rather wait until I can see them like this, they look so crisp. Are they going to be released worldwide?

I wanted to add to my last comment but Kevin if you see this, I wanted to give you ideas of how you could bring the Racoons back beyond this and the reboot, I heard you are coming up with many new things so:
Apparently the original concept of the franchise was originally supposed to be a puppet show or live-action? You could make this work if you really wanted to! Maybe like a Roger Rabbit like movie with the characters or if you wanted to do the show in puppet form, (you can go the normal route with that ), but honestly how about stop-motion? I can see Bert and the rest in their original forms from this being like that, like Rudolph inspired honestly. 😊

Two questions:
Will this be available in the UK, as we only got the first 2 seasons on DVD and I'd like to own them all, and will there be a proper 4:3 version, rather than the cropped version seen here? I don't particularly want spend money to watch something if it's not in the correct aspect ratio.

For example, comparing this original 4:3 version of title sequence on my DVDs, when you first see Bert's room you can see all of his rug and the second rollerskate at the bottom of the screen, but on here the bottom half of the rug and the second rollerskate have been cut off. Yes, there's a bit of extra picture on the sides (though you can include that on an uncropped version by making the black bars on the sides slightly narrower), but it doesn't make up for what's lost on the top and bottom. It's always incredibly sad and disapointing to see old TV shows treated this way, doubly so when it's artwork that people put effort into drawing, yet large chunks of it's being cut off and the artist's intentions being damaged.
While the remastering looks beautiful, making an uncropped 4:3 version available for us dedicated fans is a must, I'll line up to buy it if there is, but will give it a miss if this 16:9 version is all that's available.
Indeed I've been watching the show since probably before half the people watching this video was even alive! One of my earliest memories is of our power cutting out during the title sequence- on the part where Bert's swinging on a rope- and not coming back on for several days due to heavy snow bringing the lines down! That was well over 30 years ago... Was a very big part of my childhood, especially as it was shown here for absolutely years.
According to the full press release, the episodes have been scanned to HD in both 4:3 and 16:9. The remastered series is planned to be released outside of Canada in 2023 I think.
@@lkcrm94 The question is whether they actually choose to release the 4:3 version, everything that's been put out so far of the remastered version so ar has been 16:9 as far as I can tell.

As a kid in the 80s in the UK this was the best thing about Saturday mornings 😊 shame we had to get older.
Now for those of anyone (mostly Americans) who give Canadian animation a bad rap in general, especially by associating it with flash animation, watch the Raccoons. It was a great cartoon from Canada, and it'll help you take back on what you said about Canadian animation.

Haven’t seen this since the late 80’s
been watching full episodes of the show on RUclips, and after hearing some of the songs on those episodes, it got me thinking: why don't they just take all the songs off those episodes and have it go into a soundrack? The Racoons Season 1 music soundtrack, season 2 soundtrack? or have there be music soundtracks from the tv show, not just listing the songs, but what episode they're off of?
I just tried to purchase a Crave Canada subscription specifically for the Racoons. Unfortunately, I'm an ex-pat Canadian who is now living in the USA, and Crave won't let me purchase a subscription because of my US billing address. Does anybody else have any workarounds for this?

Hey, any news about when those of us who don't live in Canada will have a way to watch the remasters? I loved the show as a kid, but I now live in Japan and would love to show my family. Especially since so much of the themes and values in the show are still so relevant, perhaps more so now than when the show was new!

I would love to have the entire series on DVD, including the specials. It would mean a lot to be able to pay once and keep it to watch when I wanted, rather than paying a subscription just for a limited time. Not everyone subscribes to streaming services and a DVD release would really open the market, allowing many more people to enjoy the show without those services. Another thing I would really appreciate is if somebody would provide genuinely well-done described video (DV) for the entire series, including the specials. I am a blind fan of The Raccoons, who cannot understand everything that happens on the show without help. Recently, I watched a few episodes on Boomerang that had DV and was very disappointed with its quality. Part of that was due to the fact that a computer narrated the descriptions. When that happens, the delivery is flat and words are often pronounced incorrectly. The descriptions were also poorly done, as if they were written by someone who was only paying minimal attention to the show, which meant that most of what was happening was not described at all. Due to this, I didn't understand the episodes much better than I would without the DV and my family members had to explain what was going on to me as usual. Overall, the DV felt like a rush job just to get something out there, instead of an effort to produce a quality work of art. If there is a way to make high-quality DV for The Raccoons that is written and voiced well, I and other blind fans would really appreciate it. I would be glad to help make that happen. Thank you.
