I often wondered why Empire designs were so poor. Shouldn't these vital systems be protected at all costs, not be out in the open inviting system collapse. I'd put these systems far into the interior of the ship

Most of a Resurgence class' most important systems aren't that vulnerable. They just made them this way in the game to make it winnable with fighters. They even toned down the heavy anti-fighter/missile point defense network the Resurgence class was supposed to have.
James Tarr they already have lots of vital equipment inside the ship. Trying to protect all systems would make the ship cost more to make and be more bulky. They did have ships called dreadnaughts that were larger and more expensive to make. So they were really rare to see. Sorry I’m a geek lol
@@soporificsnail8675 theres even mods that let you fly from space down to battles on the ground and attack infantry with ships or go against capital ships seamlessly
Because this was meant to be cinematic. In TROS they were just like "let's get this done". Which also brings me to the fact that you don't ever see a resurgent class Star Destroyer blow up in the sequel trilogy. Nothing happens to them in TFA, many are just split in half in TLJ, and in TROS the Steadfast (Resurgent at Exegol) just slightly implodes, then crumbles into the surface. I absolutely love star destroyers and I wish the resurgent destroyers had a LOT more screen time. I even really like the Resurgent design, but nothing beats the Imperial. Even Kylo was supposed to have a super star destroyer in Episode IX with design influences being the Resurgent and Kylo's lightsaber
They intentionally toned things down in the game because in Canon these things have a massive and deadly anti starfighter contingent on the form of lasers and missiles all over the ships
They had to make it beatable. In reality even George's original Star Destroyer designs way back in the original trilogy were nearly impossible to destroy because even though they didn't have THAT many turrets and missile bays, and barely any fighters in their hangers, they were basically solid armor. And they only got more refined later on. I thought it was stupid how easily Finn and Poe escaped from the ship in the beginning of TFA, and how easily Poe took out the "anti fighter" batteries on the dreadnought in TLJ. I can understand it here where it's a game, but in both those cases in the movies, the ships which canonically (EVEN IN DISNEY'S dumb as hell new canon) are absolutely COVERED in laser batteries and missile pods, specifically BECAUSE they didn't want big heavy capital ships losing to small bands of fast roving 'rebel alliance' tier fighters overwhelming them, but they simply aren't there in these movie shots because they had to make it possible for the insanely lucky good guys to get away. The only good representation of this was at the end of TFA with the defenses on the Starkiller Base showing how easily they can shred down even a veteran squad of X wings, though if they were true to their own lore they'd have all been shot down much sooner before Poe would even have a chance for his 'trench run.'

Yeah take that first order!! That’s what you get for conquering the galaxy and using an illegal terror weapon that the new republic declared illegal: Star destroyers.
The whole thing about having to destroy the troop transports is dumb...at that point tactically they should keep hitting the star destroyer. Those transports don’t have hyperdrives😂the longer they fight the transports the more fighters the resistance will lose to TIEs and antistarfighter weapons from the star destroyer. If they’re really concerned about the troop transports escaping then just take out the shields surrounding the hangar and it will either engage an emergency backup similar to what happened with the invisible hand in episode 3, or if it does not have the emergency backup doors then the bay will depressurize and they won’t be able to launch any more TIEs or transports, so they’d have air (or space in this instance) superiority...and that star destroyer isn’t going anywhere either until they repair the engines, so just have your fighters circle around to the aft and take out the engines to stop the ship from going anywhere for an indefinite period of time. Also, besides the ventral cannons, none of the other first order antistarfighter weapon systems would be as effective against an attack from the aft, most of their point defense batteries are on the front of the ship. At this point you can destroy the ship slowly with minimal losses or destroy it quickly if you’re concerned about it calling in reinforcements (which is unlikely for a number of reasons) or you could demand surrender and take the higher ranking officers as hostages to be bartered back at a later date as well as seizing the weapons, munitions, supplies, hyperfuel, and hardware on the ship. This is also a perfect opportunity to study the enemy ship by capturing it and making detailed blueprints of it to help your forces fight against it in the future. Any military commander would be like a kid on Christmas if they got the blueprint for the enemies main combat vehicle. I suppose it’s foolish of me to expect dice and EA to put much tactical or strategic thought into how they design their games though😂
