It makes me remember the pain we felt in every town and city on June 12, 2016. For us in Providence, RI, that Tuesday the 14th was a coming together of the LGBTQIA+ Community as hundreds gathered at Roger Williams Memorial honoring those who were lost. It was so emotional and painful. On the following Saturday, June 18th, we had our yearly RI Pridefest and nighttime Pride Parade. That night, that parade, in particular, our Downcity was packed with people from every age group and walk of life. I was stunned at how big the crowd was. There were other theater and outdoor events going on in the city, but everyone came together to see the parade that we are always so proud of. You could barely move on the sidewalks and people hugged and cheered as the parade went by. More than that, what was so unusual, was that we had Providence Police, RI State Police, swat teams, even walking in the parade, and so much protection from our community, friends and allies. It was, for me, overwhelming. I've never forgotten that Pride Parade in particular, June 18, 2016.
