I've been listening to the Podcasts for this retreat on Penance...is there anyway to get the "handouts" that the speakers refer to in their talks?

    Hell is a choice

If God's mercy were really infinite, Hell would not exist. Hell is God's way of saying: "I have had enough of you. Your mercy quotient has run out."

That doesn't follow since people can continuously reject God's mercy and they in fact don't want his mercy

Hell is God’s way of saying: “You don’t want me so I’ll let you have what you want.”

Were God's mercy not infinite, then the infinite cost of one mortal sin would cut one off from God forever with no hope of redemption let alone salvation.

@@LostArchivist How can a single finite act have infinite consequences? The only truly infinite thing about God seems to be his capacity to take offence.

@@AlgyPugIt has infinite consequences because it offends the infinite goodness and worth of God by the fact that it breaks our communion with Him. But it is we who turn away not God.
Besides, God paid the bill for us all no matter how great, but we must accept it and Him since it is to be reconciled to Him.
If God can take infinite offense yet not cease keeping His creature who is offending Him in existence, this also speaks to His infinite mercy along with His Justice for the penalties it does inflict by its very nature.
