  • In this video we will be fabricating a high-performance exhaust using off the shelf parts. We will also be using an inexpensive harbor freight welder with Flux-Core to weld the unit together.
After several builds, I have found this approach to be the most efficient way to fab up a DIY regular joe exhaust.

I can’t endorse it enough. I had the HF titanium, and somehow fried it, but the flux core Lincoln I replaced it with functions about the same.
Order a mask and gloves, and just start messing with scrap steel. Butt joints with thin metal (like exhaust pipe) are hard, but you’ll find plenty of things to practice on.

A lot of community colleges offer an introduction to welding class in the evenings for a about two months and $400-500 dollars including equipment.

I have the same harbor freight belt sander. Paid $15.00 for it 10-15 years ago and have used and abused it and it still works great.

Came here for advice, but heard what I already know… practice more, and sleeve your connections.
I suppose I will need a LOT more practice before I am making pie cuts and welding curves to make a turbo kit 😬

No one ever states their settings for these flux core welders. What do u have it set at so you’re not burning thru? I can’t for the life of me get them right. Just started welding with flux core so any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks bud!

i don’t know how to weld at all i had mine on the lowest setting with a 2 set for my wire speed you just gotta get the hang of it with a piece of scrap try to go faster if you’re burning through

Get some scrap and test it out. You also need to to quarter your welds. Meaning weld a short distance then skip to the other side and weld. Welding thin material is all about heat input and control. Welding long beads will surely burn through. Also strike up on the thicker joint and concentrate the heat on it. Whip and pause instead of circling your bead.

Guessing you only had the front loop for your driveshaft -- are there any plans to add a rear loop?
Related to the exhaust: nice welds. Also, wish I had your transmission crossmember. So much better than the straight ones like most of us S-truck owners have.

I had zero loops when it broke. I'm going to add one in the middle. It's probably the only place I think it can fit.

@@TPVPRO Nice work. NHRA and IHRA have specs for the loop material and installation. Tech might be an issue if you go to race it and have the loop at mid point of driveshaft...

It would be nice if when you post a video about how to weld you actually showed us how to weld. I waited 7 1/2 minutes for you to show us that you were Welding but not how to weld.
