    My helmet looks very off-centre in this. I can't believe that its maker made it so skew-whiff, so presumably it is my head that is at fault. As I spoke, I could not see the side of my own neck, and the footage clearly shows that my pauldrons have been laced the wrong side of my cuirass straps. Never mind. To my eye, Zac, you looked like a living brass-rubbing.

    I wish I could attend and meet all you guys ! Unfortunately, i am a poverty-stricken O.A.P. in Rural Australia, so it's not going to happen, so it's great to see channels like yours. Thanks !

    Your harness looks superb. Very clean with slim lines. Really puts paid to the old "plate armor is clumsy and slow" trope. Well chosen, and well made.

    I was marshalling the prince's bodyguard and I have to say it was quite a spectical to see you run out from your line to challenge the prince at the end of day two.

    Looking forward to this year's event.
    Thanks for everyone's efforts.

    I just found you after watching the video you helped Jill Bearup on . I find this type of thing fascinating my father in law did civil war reenactment I'm looking into that type of thing myself. I have a cousin who has been doing Renaissance faiees recently .

    It was great fun sparring with you! I was on the Beautforts side in the Vanguard with just basic foot soldier kit but it seemed that every time we clashed with the Middletons I was in front of you so I didn't want to keep bonking your armour with my glaive haha

    • @ZacharyEvans
      @ZacharyEvans  Год назад

      I'm sure I'd recognise you if I saw you again. It's all becoming a bit of a blur already! The armour held up really well. Either everyone was well behaved or It's made of mithril!

      @@ZacharyEvans Matthew Finchen and myself went to Tewks with gilded armour for a laugh. I decided to be restrained and go for just gilded visor, bevor, and besagews...Matt took things a step further haha. Yeah your armour looked great, first saw it at Barnet last month. Hopefully it's not Mithril if you play Oldschool Runescape because that's only level 20 defence!

      Not this year, unfortunately. We did talk about possible ways to get some, but the general rule is no cameras on the battlefield, so we would need to get special dispensation for it.

    Damn, I'd love to see a proper battle re-enactment like this. The best I can get in my area is old fat dudes firing musket blanks at each other or your typical ren fest dance number.

  • @longbowmen2
    @longbowmen2 Год назад +1

    Seems your english armour a bit older for The Wars of Roses period, eh? 🙃

    • @ZacharyEvans
      @ZacharyEvans  Год назад +2

      Absolutely. High status armour for 1447 would definitely still be in use 20 years later, although likely with some modifications and by individuals lower down the social ladder.
      At Tewkesbury for example, Nik is wearing armour very up to date for 1471, as he is playing the Duke of gloucester, however I am just one of his retainers, so I am wearing a high quality but older armour, likely from the Dukes stores.
      We know that in the early 16th century Henry VIII emptied the Royal armouries to recycle out of date armour into more up to date stuff for his soldiers, so the practise of holding on to and using earlier armours was definitely used.

    The only reenactment event where I've seen plastic tents, pretty uncommon when you come from other side of the channel and using linen ones.
    The hippies part was unexpected too, I've been a lot in the sauna after the battle.

      Vast majority of people were on foot the whole time

    • @ZacharyEvans
      @ZacharyEvans  Год назад +5

      No, I am not riding for a while. As this is only the second time out with my harness, I really want to put it through it's paces on foot before I do anything with it on horseback.
