Yes! I use a Godin xTSA in similar fashion. I have the expression pedal programmed to morph between the two inputs, and use a Taylor IR in the piezo chain. So versatile for live applications! Great vids Richie - appreciate all the insight!
Richie - quick question: I just got a Helix Rack and Floor Control, and am loving all your videos. But I have it running (via USB) into my iMac with Logic Pro X, and just listening via the monitors (Presonus Eris 8 plus subwoofer - all calibrated to the room) doesn't really cut it. So I was looking to get a FRFR amp/speaker to put under my mixing desk and run audio from the Helix into it, to get the "feel" of playing a real amp, and feel that air being pushed. I was looking at the QSC K12.2 but I notice you have a Line 6 wedge in your studio - what model, and does it do what I'm trying to achieve? Thanks for all your help :)
Thanks Richie - even though I don't make a lot of use of the HEAVY style (except for slide tones) I enjoy watching your progression with the Helix. I like hearing your explanations for using the different fx and their settings - helpful stuff. I don't know if you have any experience with the Variax interactions with the Helix but you can really go down the rabbit hole with the combinations (piezo/mag) you were just doing. Everything from instant "capo" settings, alt tunings, individual string note values and sensitivities to different guitar models (acoust/elec). All the Variax settings can be controlled in the Helix presets. You probably already knew this but I thought I would mention it. Thanks again, your clear, to the point explanations are refreshing.
Fantastic! I've been thinking about getting a Helix and was interested in doing this very same set up with my Musicman JP7. This is the only resource I have found so far. Thanks for dealing with such a quirky subject matter. Very well presented. One question. Would I be correct in assuming that this set up only works with he Helix Floor model as it has the Aux In socket?
I am really blown away with the piezo switch On/Off just with a footswitch and not having to change them with piezo to magnetic, I think if we could tweek the sound a bit more, its gonna sound close to John petrucci tone, One thing I am quite surprised is that my helix give me a hiss noise with higher gain lead when I set it up to like a john petrucci preset, And I was wondering how does the Tone feel when you play with it?? Does the tone feels great under your fingers or does it respond dynamically when you pick attack fast is the tone very easy and lush to play with??? I am really really curious, and I would love to see john petrucci type presets a bit more with tone shaping them, please do one more video on how to dial in john petrucci tone and also give us your thought on how does the tone feel when you play, because as a guitar player I know that we can tweek the sound and mimic our fav artist, but if there is a lack on the Tone feel particularly, then it's no point how good we sound, tone feel for me is very very important because we cant change the Tone feel of the unit.
Cool stuff!! I've been experimenting with my MM Majesty 6 string set up the same way. I like the expression pedal idea and I'll give that a shot today. Are you posting your presets anywhere?
I'm on the fence about posting these. I almost never use Mesa models and I've never played through a Mark IV, so I don't know how authentic this sounds.
if it sounds good, who cares if it sounds authentic. this is the age of digital modeling. authentic is irrelevant. If it sounds good, it sounds good. I'd still eat a burger from five guys even if it was a not accurate rip off of in n out as long as it was tasty :)
Excellent stuff again, as I've come to expect from your channel, Richie - thank you. And for the record, being Australian, I pronounce "piezo" as "pee-zo". As an American, you'd probably call it "pee-ay-zo". Here's a reference: dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/piezoelectric
The guitar has a toggle between magnetic and piezo, whats the point of this video since the toggle does that for you, instead you guys spent all the time and effort and signal routing to accomplish some thing that exits already.
It's basically being ran through 2 separate rigs with an option of being able to blend them I would prefer this setup myself because I bet it's faster and less tap dancing
I think JP himself should watch this volume pedal trick. Thank you, Richie. This is really helpful!
damn, if I keep watching these helix videos, I'm going to have to get one.
ikr

you have sold me on the helix.. thanks for a great video
That’s really cool. I have a Tom Anderson that has a stereo out with the same type of switching so I think I’m definitely going to try utilizing this.
Awesome Video! Thanks for doing them helped me to use the Helix. I was going to return it till i saw your channel
Hahaha, thanks. New tech is rough for guitar players. I'm glad you stuck with it!
Really great info.
amazing!!
I agree with Darrel McMillian - I think your JP presets sound great. I wish you would post them!
Really want a helix
This is good. Thanks :D
Boy, if you put all these vids together you could sell it to Helix as a user setup guide
Try the 3 Sigma Audio acoustic IRs with the piezo pickup.
Greeting
Great video thank you very much.
Can you explain in a video that you set the Wah Wah pedal.

Awesome video! could we possibly get your presets on your custom tone page?

Nice! FYI, I've been routing the piezo acoustic single to a separate output so that the sound man sees my acoustic alone for tweaking the house EQ.
Are these tones posted by chance? Very cool. Love the piezo tone created.
lpgoog I was never really 100% happy with these so I never posted them.

SpiralDogs you can use a return instead of the aux so it’ll work with the rack and the LT too.
@@RichieCastellano Thanks for the speedy reply. Thanks great to hear. Any idea if T hi is works with the new HX Stomp too?
SpiralDogs I’m not sure. I haven’t had a chance to play with one yet.
Try adding a 3sigmaaudio acoustic guitar IR to that piezo pickup. It will get rid of that piezo quack and give a nicer acoustic sound.

No problem. I can get enough from your video to recreate them. They sounded really good BTW.

nice vids! though i found the distortion didnt sound like a mesa. interesting! maybe youtube limits us
this is the distortion sound or he just chews the strings?
call of cthulu anyone.

Can I do this with the helix LT?
Yes both are same
I got it,,so no the next i want is,,,Richie,,,hihihihi
piezo, piezo, not how ever you want to say it

Someone send petrucci a helix. So we can see what he can come up with
